About my blog!!
I love to write head-cannons for Dps - I take ideas/requests!!
What I’ll write: I will write about any Dps character/ship but I’m not a big fan of Knox so my head cannons for him might be lacking and I ship Anderperry|Chameron|Mitts(queerplatonic & romantic) so other ships may be lacking but I’m still happy to write for them!!
I’m open to writing about a lot of things so just request and if I don’t want to do it I simply won’t do it!

That’s it, I’m always open to request so don’t be shy and no Cameron hate will be tolerated!

How do all the poets sing and are any of them tone deaf -
Neil: Voice of an angel, he was especially good at singing when he was younger his mother would always make him do the local Christmas carol services (he’d get the solo) - He isn’t really afraid to sing around others so he’s always humming tunes and singing whatever song is stuck in his head - probably a tenor
Knox: Tone deaf. He probably thought he was amazing at 12 and was that kid who’d belt out randomly during class and everyone just wanted him to shut up - cursive singer
Charlie: Also that kid who’d belt out in class but unlike Knox he can hold a note (still incredibly annoying) He’s a pretty decent singer and was also probably in the Christmas carol service but only so he could rob the donations
Cameron: Choir kid, he was able to hit all the high notes when he was younger so he always got solos and it gave him a hugeee ego boost - He’s still in choir, a tenor and he does all the welton choir stuff
Todd: Isn't a great singer and he doesn’t mind, he wouldn’t want to sing in front of anyone anyways
Meeks: Pretty average, he likes to sing along to the radio but other than that he doesn’t really sing
Pitts: He takes karaoke so seriously, probably belts Celine Dion - Is also in the choir and he’s a bass - once jokingly serenaded Meeks when they were 13 and he brought Meeks to tears
Absurd and awkward situations I've been in that I think fit the Dead Poets Society boys
Neil Perry: directing and performing a segment of Antigone by Sophocles in front of his whole class and not getting a single extra mark for it
Todd Anderson: having to write a poem about the meaning of his life for literature class and spending the whole evening crying because life had no meaning and he would disappoint his favourite teacher
Charlie Dalton: convincing his classmates to start an anarchy against their english teacher and being one of the two people who actually went along with it when they teacher threatened to lower grades
Knox Overstreet: being ghosted by his situationship for his ex who happened to be dating his other ex
Richard Cameron: staying up until 3AM studying every night and having an absolute meltdown when he got manhandled to bed
Steven Meeks: having to be pulled out of school early because a pen corrector exploded in his mouth and he accidentally swallowed it
Gerard Pitts: being told “you write really well for someone with dyslexia” by a teacher when he did not, in fact, have dyslexia
Back with some more head cannons! :] Don’t be shy send some ideas >:)

Poets as food -
Todd: marshmallow, people take time to realise how amazing they are (I am marshmallows number one defender why does no one like them) and he’s like a little marshmallow that I need to protect
Cameron: A nice pumpkin and squash soup with warm buttery soda bread (showing my Irishness here) soup just makes sense for him I will not elaborate further
Neil: A warm stew, cozy and comforting
Charlie: Those ridiculous ice cream sundaes that are like 12 scoops of ice cream, with a candy floss perimeter, poppping candy, two huge lollipops etc
Knox: Pasta, just plain pasta idk
Meeks: those meals that are like made in a lab and served at super high end restaurants, like where they’ll replace all the juice in a slice of orange with lime juice with a tiny needle
Pitts: A full Irish breakfast, he looks like a breakfast guy and you can never go wrong with a full Irish (even though I don’t eat most of the things in them :’))
poets favourite movies & shows -
Gerard: He’s big into anything teenage mutant ninja turtles and power rangers - his favourite movies are The Iron Giant, E.T. And The Goonies he likes anything he watched as a little kid probably a huge Star Wars nerd too him and Meeks probably know the scripts of the original trilogy like the back of their hand also loves his nature documentaries
Charlie: He loves Schitts Creek, he made moira his entire personality after he first watched it, he also loves adventure time and has watched every sitcom in the world - for movies I feel like he’d love a bunch of queer classics like Paris is burning, He probably just watches all the cult classics (has everything logged onto letterbox too)
Cameron: He binged The X-files and Twin Peaks and always rewatches them while studying, he also really likes adventure time (he was definitely not allowed to watch cartoons when he was little but when he came to welton he saw Charlie watching it and now they watch it together and it’s like healing his inner child) - I don’t think he’d watch a lot of movies but he probably just tunes into whatever Charlie’s watching (he doesn’t use headphones)
Meeks: Loves The x-files too and any crappy sci-fi show is a must for him, definitely a Trekkie - for movies again anything sci-fi or fantasy forced the poets to watch the extended versions of The Lord of the Rings (everyone bar Knox and Todd enjoyed them, Todd prefers the books) - he probably watches a bunch of true crime/paranormal documentaries and then the next day at breakfast he tells the poets all about them and poor Neil ends up with nightmares
Knox: probably watches friends and how I met your mother, Charlie forced him to watch Schitts Creek with him but he gave up after the 3rd episode - hugee rom-com guy the poets are sick and tired of him telling them about how he wishes he was in the movies, He enjoys the original trilogy of the Star Wars movies but he’s scared of jar jar binks so he can’t watch the prequels (probably can’t decide between leia and Han Solo)
Neil: I don’t think he’d watch many shows (his dad doesn’t pay for any subscription and Neil’s too scared to pirate shows by himself) but he’ll watch whatever Todd or Charlie has on - Charlie introduced him to bunch of queer media and when they were like 14 they watched brokeback mountain together and bawled in each others arms (they were found by Cameron who ended up watching the movie on his own and bawled while ranting about it to Charlie) His favourite movies are Billy Elliott(he longs for that acceptance), and Labyrinth - of course he watches all the slime tutorials for different plays and musicals online (he absolutely will not watch movie adaptations)
Todd: I feel like Todd would love crappy reality tv like 90 day fiance and all the TLC stuff, he loves Buffy the Vampire Slayer and he’s afraid to admit he was a gleek when he was like 13 - He would watch a lot of horror but mostly stuff from the 70s-90s (he thinks the more modern stuff is too graphic) Neil hates horror and he looked at what Todd was watching one evening and he looked right as there was a jump scare and had to sleep beside Todd for a week (they both enjoyed it) He watches all the movie adaptations of books and swears by the book on all of them despite this his favourite movie is Maurice which is an adaptation
That’s all for now :> I apologise for any grammar/spelling errors I woke up super early and I can’t go back to sleep so I’m writing this half asleep :’)

yes, the portrayal of healthy platonic male friendships in lord of the rings is extremely important in showing not only healthy masculinity, but healthy complex and deep non-romantic same sex relationships. however, that doesn't stop frodo and sam from being gay as fuck
To preface this: I am a huge fan of Cameron as in like I'm the world's #1 Cameron defender so it hurts to constantly see his character be misinterpreted or straight up HATED by other members of this fandom.
I also have some controversial opinions on this topic, so please read through the whole post before you just blindly ignore or block me 😭
First of all, Cameron is a kid. He's a scared and confused and stressed out kid who just lost a friend to suicide and he doesn't know how to process it which is why he's so quick to blame Keating. Which is the same thing that Todd did when he blamed Neil's father. The loss of a friend is hard for anyone, especially for kids/young adults that age, and ESPECIALLY if that person died by suicide. Your brain doesn't know how to make sense of it, so you jump to blame something or someone else for it. You can see examples of this when you look at conspiracies surrounding celebrities that committed suicide (Kurt Cobain is the first one that comes to mind for me) and how their spouses or other people that were close to them often get accused of murdering their loved one or at the very least are blamed for their death in some way.
I also agree with Cameron to an extent. Keating wasn't completely innocent and he did contribute to Neil's death. He acted more like a friend to his students when he should have been a responsible adult and teacher and should have properly cautioned them against doing things that would have negative consequences, ESPECIALLY when he basically encouraged Neil to disobey his father. We also don't really see Keating have any positive interactions with Cameron, literally the closest thing we get to that is just him poking fun at Cameron. Keating also didn't handle Todd's anxiety in the best way, I know for a fact that if I would've been thrown into a situation like the improvisational poem scene when I'd moved to a new school back in my junior year I would have vomited just due to the anxiety alone. But anyways, Keating just feels like the parent who doesn't care if their kid wears a seatbelt, he has that mindset of "oh it'll be fine that bad stuff won't happen to us" until it does. And then you're fucked. I have had teachers like Mr. Keating before, who didn't care much about making progress and cared more about being friends with their students, which is how I went through THREE YEARS of guitar class without making any real progress. They just let kids goof off and do whatever they wanted instead of actually teaching that class.
We also repeatedly see Cameron being excluded or ignored by the poets, first when he's against the idea of joining the dead poets society and is eventually pressured into it, and again when he tries to tell his story in the cave and everyone stops him because they've apparently heard it before and they don't care about Cameron enough to let him just tell his story again. He's also ignored by Charlie many times during the whole girls in the cave and having girls at Welton debacle. This, and the previously mentioned weird treatment from Mr. Keating, would understandably cause Cameron to be a bit distant from the rest of the group. The only person that ever really tries to include him is Neil, when he invited Cameron to their study group.
I don't think that Cameron's "betrayal" even truly counts as a betrayal. I really do think that he had the best interests of his friends in mind, even if he was a bit misguided, and while it was wrong for him to try to place all of the blame on Keating, you can't say that while defending Todd for blaming Neil's father. And yes, while Neil's father is mainly to blame for the death of his son due to his overbearing (and implied to be abusive) parenting, Keating is also partially to blame for Neil's death because he was not giving Neil the proper guidance that he needed and for encouraging his reckless behavior and especially for encouraging Neil to disobey his father. Keating repeatedly stepped over the student-teacher boundary in a way that was inappropriate. I don't think that Cameron "throwing Keating under the bus" was a selfish act done only to save himself, he GENUINELY cared about Neil and his other friends and wanted justice for all of them.
Throughout the whole movie, Cameron is clearly just trying to be accepted. He gets good grades and studies and does whatever his teachers and textbooks say because he wants the authority figures in his life to pay attention to him and to like him (which actually says a lot about his home life, but that's getting too into headcanon-y territory so I'll save that for another post). And even after his protests, he still goes along with whatever his friends want to do because he wants to be a part of the group and to feel included.
It still annoys me that he calls Todd a stiff in that one scene, but later on while they're getting ready for the play Todd messes up Cameron's hair right after he finally got it fixed so I feel like they're even after that lol. Also, the fact that Cameron is seen fixing his hair all the time shows how much he values other people's approval and how he feels like he has to look good and presentable at all times. He's clearly a pretty anxious person. He's more similar to Todd than many people realize, not only with their similar reactions to Neil's death (they both jump to blame someone else for it) but also with their anxious personalities.
Also☝️even if Cameron did "betray" they poets Judas style, I think that just makes his character more interesting because of the drama and angst. Don't even get me started on his dynamic with Charlie and how the two parallel each other in such an interesting way. They are two sides of the same coin, they both just want to be accepted by the people around them.
Neil's suicide isn't about who's fault it is, it's just a dark twist on the whole "carpe diem" message of the movie. Neil is finally able to take his life into his own hands in a very literal sense, and he is finally able to truly defy the control that his parents the school had over the choices he made about his life.
TLDR: everyone always asks for more complex characters but y'all can't even handle Richard Cameron from Dead Poets Society.
I'm not sure who created this meme, and if anyone knows please let me know so I can credit them or remove this part of the post if needed, but I feel like this sums up Cameron perfectly. Please let this guy have a break, God knows what he's been through with having Charlie of all people as a roommate. He just wants to be loved and accepted!! He's grieving the loss of Neil just as much as everyone else was!!! Be nice to him!! aaaaaaa!!!!!!
