the older i get the more ive been really terribly missing the old CRT i had in my room growing up but like most of the older tech my family had that i WISH we couldve held onto i believe my parents had to sell pretty much all of it to actually make rent. but to me modern screens just arent the same im constantly craving the life and movement that a CRT always seems to have... maybe one day i'll try and see if i can get one but i just worry about struggling to hook it up and get it working since its so outdated now and i never quite learned how to set them up on my own. but maybe.. maybe someday...
thousands of people have waxed poetic abt this topic in a manner that makes me a little concerned (i dont want to say the phrase Nostalgia Poisoning bc it sounds weird but. the amount that people sometimes idolize and deify the past and past technology sometimes seems less than healthy and also can maybe lead to promoting other ideas from bygone eras that are a little more actually harmful) BUT. i do think there is a lot you can say specifically about different types of screens. i do think our modern technology is generally a benefit when its made with the intention of accessibility and ease of use for the user and Not just to turn a profit but theres like... like..... theres some deeply human type of Connection that exists with the type of machine thats imperfect and hums and the way each one seems to have its own set of issues and almost its own personality. for me at least it makes it so much easier to connect with whatever's being displayed on the screen because both the medium and the mode of viewing it feel so deeply. person-made. modern screens are so much better for readability and theres just so much More you can do with them but they feel very hollow. and again i think the accessibility is often way more important than the aesthetics but... i just need to get back into owning older tech and so does everyone else who loves it. instead of constantly raving about The Past or whatever. like it still exists!! we can just keep using it!!!

the second image here was me playing around with this webtool that's a fully functional pixel art animation software that simulates the phosphors of a CRT screen (!!!) and it's REALLY really cool and i just wanted an excuse to show it to people. i think its a really good way of seeing the difference between older and newer pixel art, and the way that higher contrast and defined shapes was just so so important on older screens (look at the complete loss of detail on starb's face vs the clearer lines on his body!)

Several wildfires are forcing members of a number of First Nations to flee their homes in northern Ontario.
“I had time to run home and pack a bag and get to the beach where the boats were waiting,” said a member of Namaygoosisagagun First Nation (Collins). “We literally had minutes to get on the boats and flee before it took our town.
“Once we left my house finally after packing what I could in a pack sack, the fire was right behind our place. We had to run to the beach and once we got there, it was only moments before the fire had jumped over the (train) track and was coming for us.”
it has since been confirmed that namaygoosisagagun first nation has completely burnt to the ground. if you would like to help the community navigate an ongoing crisis, i urge you to donate to the anishinabek nation 7th generation, a registered charity seeking to improve the lives of first nations people. donations are going directly to members of namaygoosisagagun first nation.

Just your annual heads up, Northern Ontario is actively on fire with little resources from the provincial government to combat them. Over 144 fires on record, you've seen the fire from Armstrong and another from Collins, but several First Nations along the corridor have lost their homes and have been displaced.
