If I was gonna go somewhere I´d be there by now

I want to see a fanfic where he looks up “magical snakes” as soon as he gets to Hogwarts because that thing at the zoo always bugged him, and so the Trio works out that it’s a basilisk immediately after the first petrification in Second Year. But they don’t know how it’s getting around or where it is or anything, so Harry is just like WELP SET A BASILISK TO FIND A BASILISK while Hermione and Ron are like HARRY NO.

I want to see a fanfic where Harry sticks a chicken egg under a toad and makes all these plans about how he’ll talk to his huge deadly snake and get it eye-blinkers and shit so it doesn’t kill people and make sure it’s not too aggressive, and somehow it never occurs to his twelve-year old brain that the chicken egg has a total volume of about four tablespoons and he is not going to get the giant King of Serpents he is expecting.

I want to see a fanfic where it finally breaks out of the shell and Harry finds himself with a bb!basilisk too smol to even have the murder-eyes yet, who can only petrify someone for about half an hour before the effect wears off. She eats spiders and gets tired very easily and demands that he wear a hood she can curl up in and sleep.

(She is also the same vivid green as his eyes and already hideously venomous, but doesn’t like using her fangs because she says they get cold and give her brain freeze when she unsheathes them.)

I just… I really want Harry with a haughty, demanding, arrogant danger noodle who has an overinflated sense of her own importance, views Hedwig as a TERRIFYING MENACE because she isn’t big enough to eat owls yet and keeps up a steady stream of insults hissed in Harry’s ear whenever she’s near someone who has a Dark Mark (which she can sense at close range). And who is basically useless as a familiar because she refuses to slither across anything other than sun-warmed stones or Harry, hasn’t got a very powerful gaze yet and doesn’t like biting people.

what is everyone else is thinking when the Gryffindors start hissing under their breath? Their table sounds like a snake pit and it’s eerie af. The Slytherins are pissed cause surely this is a joke at their expense. And obviously everyone turns to Harry because he’s the ONLY ONE who could have stared this.

I’m seeing way too much 2017 negativity on my dash right now, so while it’s still New Year’s Eve, share some happy memories and tag some people to do the same. Me first:

In 2017, I wrote over 100 pages for my novel. I spent a lot of time with people I love most. I went to two convents. I created this blog and made wonderful friends. ♡

My sister got married and it was beautiful. I got to pet a fawn! Wonder Woman and Ragnarok happened, and Homecoming too. I got back into the Silm and Tolkien in general, catapulting me straight into this beautiful fandom.

I visited the UK for the first time.  I made new friends.  I started writing more.  I made some progress on some Personal Demons that have been bugging me for a long time.  My friends and I toured Scotland, and it was beautiful.  I discovered I like mead.  I went to a Foo Fighters Concert.  My boyfriend and I are closer than we’ve ever been before.

I had a succesful fannish year. I actually did all the paintings I’d put on my to-do list at the start of the year (so I should make a new list for 2018!) and then some I hadn’t planned on doing. I picked up a WiP that I had abandoned three years ago and moved it forward quite a bit; I even know the rest of the story, I just have to get it written, hopefully without another three-year hiatus. I wrote a couple of fics I hadn’t thought I was going to write, and some of them turned out pretty well if I say so myself. I even managed to write an essay that I’d been planning to write for a couple of years. I got a lot better about commenting on fanfic. I attended a convention at the local castle, which was fun. I met some new cool fannish people here on tumblr, both for my primary fandom (Tolkien) and my inappropriate history crush Marcus Tullius: Ace Attorney  Captain Chickpea  Sweet Tully  Cicero.

My firstborn started “big school” and though he’s having some difficulties we didn’t anticipate, his teacher is pretty supportive. He also looked into judo (due to his BFF doing judo) and wants to take it up, so that’s good. The secondborn started kindergarten and found it harder than we all expected (he couldn’t WAIT while he was still too small, and now it’s a struggle every morning), but in the weeks before the holidays, he finally made friends and that’s made everything much easier.

I managed to make a start on cleaning out the attic (which I’ve been avoiding since 2010 or so, so even a start is a good thing.)

I went to Austria in January, Brittany in June and Normandy in October and these were all very nice, relaxing and necessary family vacations.

began the conversion process, on my way to becoming a Jew (Jew-in-Training? is that a thing?)

got a tattoo, finally, and I love it

adopted a new cat who is amazing and perfect and also a little brat but I love her

met some new people and deepened my friendships with some others, both online and off

visited @portraitoftheoddity, had her visit me, both were amazing

spent my first year in a new job and found some of my footing there

visited Iceland and Norway with my sister and had a wonderful time in both places

went to Anguilla with my entire family and while I got hella sunburned and smashed on a reef it was still amazing

moved into a new and better apartment with @ameliarating, who remains the best girlfriend a girl could ask for

wrote. a whole lot. lured some new people into the Stoki fandom, finished a couple long fics, started several other ones I’m excited about. got some ideas for original fiction that I’m starting to feel like I really, really want to write. (I’m giving them more time to percolate before I really begin - and trying to do a little basic planning, at least.)

read a lot of books, including some really good ones including Amberlough, Six of Crows, and Winter Tide (among others); starting the Malazan: Book of the Fallen series; the entire Wheel of Time reread.

Wonder Woman came out and was pretty much everything I could hope for; Thor: Ragnarok came out and revitalized the fandom.

I hope 2018 is just as good for me.

Figured out I’d probably be happier living as a dude (and so far, it’s holding true)

Started the year 2017 on a beautiful beach

Started teaching little kiddies that are adorable

Wrote a 40k fic in two weeks

Speaking of which: I finally wrote Digimon fanfic, which I’d wanted to do forever but never managed, for some reason! And I got very into it too, for a first year (8 fics out of the 17 I published in 2017 were Digimon fanfics…I hope I’ll get some more out this year!)

Made new friends and deepened previous relationships

Got to see my family and have a great time with them back in July

Became a better teacher and a better person

Petted dogs! And cats!

Moved into a new apartment that has lots of light (looooots of light) and made it feel more and more like mine as time went by

Actually grew a little more organised/less slobbish at home (still not perfect, but better than it was

Discovered more about Cambodian culture and understood the country better (though I will freely admit I’m far from very involved in it at all, and I still haven’t taken steps to learn khmer)

Ended 2017 and began 2018 by watching the end of the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy which, considering the Fellowship of the rings is what jumpstarted my passion for writing and involvement in fandom, is a really cool way of ending/starting a year :P

I finished a therapy for my anxiety and depression, and - driving aside - it was very successful. So much that I’m doing quite fine even without medication.

Our cat got over her human-anxiety/PTSD and is now my best friend

I managed to aquire enough knowledge to buy a new laptop (almost) all on my own.

We went to pride for the first time, and Germany established the right to marry - both had way more emotional impact on me than expected (I also called our electoral district’s representative’s office before the vote. Didn’t help with his homophobic attitude and left me literally shaking, but considering I have phone anxiety and used to be unable to call my hairdresser it was a pretty great achievement for me)

I finally dressed up as Neil Gaiman’s Death for Halloween and took pictures - I have never looked this great

I discovered that Yoga is not only good for me physically but also mentally and I enjoy it a lot more than I would have thought.

After 2 1/2 years of living within the family home where I worked I finally took the plunge, moved out and got my own little studio flat. It’s scary and the amount of rent I have to pay (thanks, London) still makes my heart race a bit every month. But I can afford it and it’s so nice to come back to a space that is solely mine after a long day of work.

I started two new Nanny jobs and realised that I’m actually really good at what I do and totally able to get a job and live in London on my own. 

I’ve did the mentally healthy thing and put myself first in quitting one Nanny job where my work wasn’t appreciated enough.

I’ve been brave and asked openly for a more commited relationship with someone I’ve been seeing for a while. Through open communication and patience we found a good way for us to fulfill this and I can now call this person my boyfriend. He makes me very happy and got the approval from all of my friends he’s met so far. 

I deepened my friendship with Claudia and met a few other Nannies through her and playgroups.

Because I’m absolutely in love with falling in love. 

Because I live for the moment when your stomach drops out underneath you and your pulse races and you realize with absolute certainty that you’re going to be kissed for the first time.

Because I want to know people. REALLY KNOW PEOPLE. I want to get inside them and learn their dark places and discover the strange ways our edges fit together. I want to learn and teach and create and grow and grow.

Because I want to offer support and ask for support and be strong together and be weak together. 

Because I have so much strength to offer, it feels stifling to mould my energy to one solitary partner’s needs. 

Because I have so many weaknesses, so many imperfections, so many egregious flaws, insecurities, and doubts, it feels unfair to foist them all on one, lonely human, to demand that they understand me perfectly, that they always be enough. 

Because I see humans like prisms, refracting their personalities like light, and because I gain nourishment for each band of color within myself from different people and different experiences.

Because nothing in the world feels more natural to me than kissing my friends. Or holding my friends. Or fucking my friends.

Because I want to live in a warm. bolstering place in this cold, touch-starved world. And I’ve managed to create one for myself.

Because it’s worth the effort it takes to make it work, and my work to maintain my lifestyle has nourished the best parts of me – honesty, self-knowledge, respect, bravery, and compassion.

Because why the hell are we on this poorly-insulated rock of a planet if we aren’t going to grab life with both hands and have as many experiences as we possibly can?
