BURN IT DOWN: CHP. 1-- IN THE SKY (THERMOSPHERE)
"Of course I know what I’m doing~!" Ubel was practically giddy, swiveling his chair form side to side like an excited child. "You see, here’s the problem, Nugs. Echo— the poor thing— has been lonely for so long, and he and I have grown soooo close. I promised him that I’d take care of all of his problems…” His expression turned dark. “Which includes the LOT OF YOU. You see, Echo had been perfecting the old space bridge. I just figured that, since he improved the damned thing, that I’d just open up a couple dimensional rifts and see WHAT comes through it~”
Madnug sputtered—leaning forward in his seat. "Which essentially translates into YOU STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU’RE DOING! Echo—UBEL—listen to me very carefully. The only safe way a dimension can be breached is through the Minov, through some kind of dimensional bridge. What YOU are doing is the exact OPPOSITE. You are ripping a direct HOLE between dimensions, without using a bridge, which I didn’t even think was even POSSIBLE! The spacebridge technology is already incredibly unstable because of the transwarp engines, and as far as I can see, your little windows could turn into self-collapsing black holes at any given SECOND, and that’s if we’re luck—you WANT something to come through, don’t you?”
"Aww, you finally caught on. You see, I’m perfectly aware of all the irregularities with this dimensional rift, and Echo was aware of it too. But how could I RESIST letting someone do all the dirty work for me." Ubel suddenly pulled up a tablet, pointing to the screen. "I could easily redirect some old space junk your way, but then how could I get Lacroa and Ark in on this fun? I figure that the longer this portal is open, the better chances of something to come through. The bridge is running at full power. It won’t be long before someone comes calling~”
Madnug was no longer afraid.
Madnug was absolutely, out-of-his-mind, terrified.
And Ubel could see it, clear as day, on his face. The Gundam leaned back in his seat suddenly, as if he were struck. “You’re mad. You—you are absolutely MAD. The strain you are putting on the multiverses—this entire scheme will have DIRE consequences. You will sooner destroy yourself than see the end of this insanity—you will kill ALL of us!”
Ubel’s expression darkened. He wasn’t put off by Madnug’s words— he was dead serious. The bags under his optics deepened along with the harsh shadows on his helm and faceplates. The younger mech suddenly looked almost demonic.
"Good. I can watch the lot of you burn from my seat in Hell,” he growled. He leaned back, putting a hand on his console and his hand wavered over the control to cut the feed. Ubel narrowed his optics on his colleague. “As nice as this as been, it’s been getting stale. Any last words for me, Madnug?”
From his place in his lab, Madnug leaned back in his seat--ignoring the pandemonium of his lab assistants, interns, and employees as they scrambled to take readings of the rifts over Neotopia and in Solar Diorama.
So.
This was how it was going to be.
Oooh, I like this one. Perhaps I should recruit him...
Madnug ignored the unwanted voice in his head, shutting Zeong out before he leaned back in toward his screen. His expression was icy. "Echo--if you can hear me, keep fighting. And Ubel..."
His optics flashed.
"You may have won this battle--but you will NOT win this war. Terminate transmission."
The screen cut out.
The challenge had been accepted.

Madnug stared. His look of fear shifted from anger, to confusion, to outright horror. "ECHO!? Echo—Ubel? Your’re a split persona? Wh—what are you DOING!? LET ME SPEAK WITH ECHO! WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS!? DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU’RE DOING?”
"Of course I know what I’m doing~!" Ubel was practically giddy, swiveling his chair form side to side like an excited child. "You see, here’s the problem, Nugs. Madnug was shaking. As the monitor began to relay and establish a full connection, Ubel could see the other scientist trembling out of pure rage—or possibly fear. It was difficult to tell given the quality of the black Gundam’s strained voice. "Echo, just what in blazes do you think you’re DOING!? Do you have ANY idea what kind of stress you’re putting on the dimensional walls!? I’m getting off the chart readings all the way from AXIA, and there’s not even a rift anywhere near—what happened to your voice?"
"My voice? Madnug, your receptors must be— oh… OH. You think I’m ECHO? Ooooh that’s not my name…” The darker GP-05 leaned closer to the monitor, snapped his mask back, and flashed a wicked smile. “I’m UBEL~ Poor Echo was a little worn out, so I stepped in to—”
His helm jerked to the side, and his opitcs flashed. It was a brief flash of Echo. "MADNUGOHGODSHELPMEICANTSTOPHI—"
The Gundam suddenly roared his engine, screamed, and threw his head down on the panel. A few lights and flashed in the station due to Ubel’s helm smashing into some of the controls, but when he rolled his helm back up he coughed. It was an odd scene, at best. “I apologize for that. Echo can be a handful, at times. Now, what were you asking again~?”
Madnug stared. His look of horror shifted from anger, to confusion, to outright horror. "ECHO!? Echo--Ubel? Your're a split persona? Wh--what are you DOING!? LET ME SPEAK WITH ECHO! WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS!? DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU'RE DOING?"

And then his console beeped. The Voyager A.I. chirped at him with its monotone warbled voice, showing an incoming transmission message on the monitor feed. “Incoming transmission. Data signature: GX01GP-04. Begining message feedback…”
"—YOU ANSWER THIS TRANSMISSION RIGHT NOW, ECHO. KNOW THE RIFTS WERE OPENED FROM YOUR REMOTE LOCATION! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU’RE DOING!? DO NOT IGNORE ME—”
The message cut off mid curse. Professor Gerbera—Madnug—was absolutely livid. "Would you like to connect this user?"
Ubel practically lit up when the AI chirped at him. Madnug finally decided to contact him and say a thing or two. Now things were going to get fun.
"Affirmative. Establish connection with user…" There was bing from his console and Ubel purred, leaning back in his chair and supporting his head with his hands. “Ah, Madnug. It’s so good to hear from you, my friend. How how are things on your end of the thermosphere~?”
Madnug was shaking. As the monitor began to relay and establish a full connection, Ubel could see the other scientist trembling out of pure rage--or possibly fear. Neotopian Satelite Station ‘Voyager’s Savior’…
The readings were all good. Very good. All three dimensional rifts were strong, big, and under his control. Only he— the mad mech that started this process of destruction— could stop this, and there was no chance of that. No one could stop him, and that very idea made the Neotopian Gundam cackle.
Ubel purred and leaned back in his seat, arms folded neatly behind his head. He watched readings on his control panel, the portals growing stronger as they began to connect with some odd dimension. It was a like a bridge across a raging river, he figured. That bridge was almost fully complete. All it needed was a little more time before those bridges were strong enough to make contact and let something horrible cross that raging river—to bring destruction to the people he hated.
Perhaps even he could make contact with these new beings and cut a deal. He has a few, personal, requests that he’d like fulfilled, but either way Neotopia, Ark, and Lacroa will burn. Ooh it just tickled his processor…
And then his console beeped. The Voyager A.I. chirped at him with its monotone warbled voice, showing an incoming transmission message on the monitor feed. "Incoming transmission. Data signature: GX01GP-04. Begining message feedback..."
"--YOU ANSWER THIS TRANSMISSION RIGHT NOW, ECHO. KNOW THE RIFTS WERE OPENED FROM YOUR REMOTE LOCATION! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU'RE DOING!? DO NOT IGNORE ME--"

you seem upset
EVERYTHING IS ON FIRE. ALL I DID WAS MIX SULFURIC ACID WITH CARBONATED AXIUM AND COMBUSTIBLE—wait never mind the fire makes perfect sense now. I probably ought to write this down before—oh no, now my desk is on fire.
In hindsight, I probably should have installed those sprinklers as Professor Shamblo suggested. I should also be evacuating. On a scale of 1-10, how ethical would it be for me to tell my students this is a pop quiz? Whoever doesn’t die putting out the flames gets an A+ and an additional twenty points on the final exam.
That seems like a perfectly ethical way to give an exam. It’s Darwinism in full motion— as my tutor once put curtly, it’s a good opportunity to ‘prevent the dumb from breeding’. I’d make good use out of the fire if I were you.
all of my students are dead what do I do now
…. I suppose your lot of students failed the most basic of tests. I’d take your findings down and try to convince the officials that it was an experiment. There’s a %98.99 chance that they won’t believe you and charge you with man slaughter… With this in mind I suggest you run.
I AM THE OFFICIAL.

[VIOLENT EXPLOSIONS]
--OH GOD NO ONE COME IN HERE EVERYTHING IS ON FIRE.
MADNUG HOW ARE YOU. YOU AND ECHO NEED TO HANG OUT. I think the poor guy is getting lonely. Hey, how long have you two known each other?
We've known each other since we were created. He was sparked three days after I was, and our assigned missions and programming were so similar that our friendship was a natural fit.
I haven't heard from him recently, though...
