Entropy - 2023
Very, very nice
every episode of Supernatural
random person: *dies*
cut to Sam and Dean eating on the impala outside a food truck
Sam: so get this a random person across the country died
Dean: ok but it’s probably not our thing
*it is their thing*
Scene change: Dean and Sam walking outside
Dean or Sam: hey do you really think we should be taking this case, considering the season’s overarching plot line?
Dean or Sam: we’ve got no leads so I’ve got to work or I’ll go crazy
Dean: hello sheriff pay no attention to the fact we look like supermodels, have ridiculous names on these clearly fake FBI badges and my brother has the same hair style as Jackie Kennedy and give us all the info on this case
random sheriff: this case? Why you FBI boys are wasting your time. There isn’t a case here.
Visibly shaken white woman holding baby: this isn’t like (random person) I just can’t believe it
Dean: did you hear or smell anything weird? Sulfur? Cold spots? These are very official FBI questions.
Visibly shaken white woman holding baby: Of course, agents. Look I’ve told you everything I know, except for this mysterious hint.
*Sam swallows and looks at Dean*
*Scene change*
*Impala pulls into motel*
*research*
Sam: I think it’s this thing
*it’s not that thing*
Sam: get this, I think we’re dealing with this thing.
Dean: That’s great Sammy but I think I know where the thing is going to be
Monster: attacks visibly shaken white woman holding baby
*Sam and Dean arrive just before visibly shaken white woman holding baby passes out
Monster: *chokes Sam*
*Camera shot of Sam’s face as he is being chocked*
If only Sam could reach the phone/ knife/ gun!!!!
Sam: *eyes roll back into head*
Dean: arrives in the nick of time and kills monster
Visibly shaken white woman hugs baby, she is teary-eyed: “so you’re telling me monsters are real??? Thank you for saving us!!! If only you could have saved that random person. I guess I’ll have to move on now.”
*scene change, Sam and Dean in Impala*
Dean or Sam: that was the right thing to do
Dean or Sam: but was it
Dean or Sam: sometimes you can’t save everyone.
*implication that story of random person is the same as Sam/ Dean’s season plot line issue
Dean and Sam look at each other
Sam is clearly nervous
Dean is stoic
Impala drives into rain
Fade to black
I can’t stop laughing this is literally ten years in a nutshell
so very true, especially the part where i’m going “where’s the angel?” and getting sad.
Shit, scene for scene…
The defintion of hell is knowing a show is incredibly well-received in its first season, but if people don’t become machines churning out tweets, content, and rewatching 24/7, there’s no likelihood it’ll get a chance to tell its whole story. This shit is madness. Shows in different genres shouldn’t have to pit-battle for dominance. First seasons are MEANT to be baselines establishing worlds and characters, not complete storylines. The idea that this golden age of television has turned into “get it done in one or get out” is revolting.
It’s always “stop starting new hobbies, don’t keep buying more supplies, weren’t you working on a project already don’t start a new one” and never “nice enrichment I love your enrichment”

dean vs jack
“Anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad[.]”– Wade Boggs
I felt this in my bones.
Taylor Tomlinson: Look at You
Ben, I just want to say that I love the way you have handled the anon(s) criticising 4LW today. I'm sure you've wanted to tear your hair out, but have instead answered admirably with poise and grace.
No story is perfect. No character is perfect. No scene is perfect. But 4LW is one of the VERY few fics I have read more than once since joining this fandom a little over a year ago, and I greatly appreciate it's (and your) existence.
How boring would life be if we were actually able to cancel, erase or control everything that upset us? How would we grow and learn as human beings? This is how echo chambers and conservative Facebook aunties win. I wish people would learn some critical thinking skills and take some responsibility for their own expectations and interpretations before jumping directly on the Cancel Bandwagon.
All this to say sorry you've had to deal with this negativity, and to remind you that there are many people in this fandom that DO love and appreciate your work. Keep it up! 💖
*insert Dean saying "never change" here*
(sorry, I'm a rambler...)
As far as I can tell, everyone making the jump is very much on the young side. I’m trying to be patient for that reason. I know what it’s like to be full of anger with nowhere good to put in within my reach.
I’m assuming fandom = activism in their eyes, and I hope they figure out that activism = activism sometime soon.
I do continue to be perplexed that Dean Winchester is the character they’re demanding to be unproblematic. That’s. An interesting choice.
Thank you for the kind words, I am mostly just tired. I need to remember that teaching children is my day job, and I am absolute not being paid to walk minors through problematic material in porn they’re not even supposed to be reading.
Thanks for this response, Ben. I’m glad to see you seemingly handling this okay. There has been a lot of chaos since this shit hit the fan, and I just wanted to check in.
I think a lot of us are just tired. This kind of discourse is exhausting. Especially when we are talking about two paragraphs out of 195k in a 4-year-old, fandom beloved fic.
Young or not (because I’ve seen some older people jump on this bandwagon too), I hope we can all eventually realise that sometimes life is uncomfortable, sometimes characters we encounter are problematic, sometimes loving those characters doesn’t mean condoning all of their behaviour, and sometimes there are better ways to effect change than aggressively telling people they’re wrong.
Supernatural is full of problematic themes, and yet here we all are still talking about it. Loving a story and recognising things that could morally improve are ideas that can and should co-exist. It is not the responsibility of everyone else to curate one person’s safe space, especially considering we’re all here in our free time passionately creating for each other for free, and we all come from different generations, cultures, backgrounds and experiences which will affect where we are in our own growth journey.
Honestly, I’m exhausted. Like, okay, maybe this is a competing needs thing. “I want to see a world that is idealized where people do good things” vs “I want to see a world that still has ugliness where flawed people try to do good things.”
Sure, people can want the first one. But I wrote the second one. And I have watched people very rapidly go from “You should have punished Dean more” to “Now you must be punished more.”
I legit have a dear friend who doesn’t post publicly because they’ve seen fandom shit go down and are straight up too scared. Been the case for years. Been justified for years, that’s the kicker. And I know the whole rationale about how folks attack the people they can actually reach (time to go after fanfic writers and indie creators instead of big companies, etc), but it’s fucking tiring.
We need more scary infinite variants of manmade environments like the Infinite IKEA or the Backrooms.
May I suggest, The Lot:
I’m sorry to disappoint you but this is a real parking lot. I didn’t edit it.
Check out the lot-to-building ratio in any large American sports stadium
Some lots are so big they have bus services specifially inside it. The lots are broken into sections and buses go around to their sections at a set amount of times before the start of something and drive people to the main building.
The societies of lost people inside The Lot would probably operate something like that to locate and pick up new arrivals and bring them over to one of the major settlements.
In the Infinite Ikea or Backrooms you can convince yourself there’s gonna be a door round the next corner or behind that wall.
But despite it being completely open, there is no hope of escape from The Lot. Whereever you look it’s just more cars from horizon to horizon.
Sheesh, man, that’s
a lot
How do those societies function? Water they can collect from rain, but how do they get food?
Do they live off pigeons and seagulls and dandelions growing in the pavement? Do grocery carts just mysteriously appear, and some of them have groceries in them? Are there food carts operated by mysterious otherworldly higher-dimensional beings in exchange for shiny things and oil, which can be harvested from the cars? Or maybe the food carts are operated by humans, who have no idea how the food gets there either, it just appears? (Perhaps they have a deal with the otherworldly beings who send it in through higher-demensional space.) Do the cars occasionally have groceries in them and do people go around from car to car looking in the windows and scavenging? Would it be possible to tear up the pavement and grow food if you could get seeds?

You answered your own question.
It happens when you don’t expect it, while you’re searching for your car or a place to park. You look up and you notice the rest of the world is gone.
There’s only The Lot.

the face of one of the most brutal vampire killers
i'm thinking about charlotte brontë spending her last years editing and publishing her sisters' writings and about christopher tolkien dedicating his life to the protection and meticulous reconstruction his father's life's work and about johanna van gogh publishing the letters between vincent and theo that would propel vincent van gogh into fame because she knew how much her husband had loved his brother, and about how so often art isn't just a reflection of the artist's mind and skills but a testament to the fact that they were loved
I shall use this post to tell you all that Berserk is being continued by the original creators best friend
