Historically Accurate Xena- now in full colour!

Hiccups and delays aside, here it is. Xena is equipped as an early hoplite; (my headcanon is that, owing to her immense, perhaps semi-divine strength, the bronze is between 4 and 8mm thick- too much for any muscle powered weapon to handle from any angle) packing an early Doru, a Boeotian shield, and a Makhaira sword. Gabrielle’s Amazonian outfit is a composite of Scythian grave finds; she wields a composite bow and Akinakes sword, wears an elaborate phrygian cap, and the trousers and moccasins of a culture seriously weird to Greeks. Other avenues are still waiting to be explored! Don’t forget to reblog, and tell me what you think. I’m absolutely willing to defend my questionable use of snarling Gorgoneiona. Fight me.

Hello world. I was gone for practically a month working on various projects but I'm back and like a sane person, working through all the stuff I missed. Maybe going through and culling a few folks I follow who haven't updated in multiple years. I'll be doing the same on the other platforms at some point I think as well. Belated Spring Cleaning and such. I prommy I'll be posting some of the stuff I was working on soon and updating my website when I am less tired and out of recharging mode.

After chatting with my students this semester I was inspired to redraw & re-letter my “Ins and Outs of Webcomics” comic.

A 9 page Scott McCloud-style narrative for those looking for comics-related reading material, how-to guides, or an introduction to webcomics!

This comic was produced with the support of the City of Toronto through the Toronto Arts Council and the Canada Comics Open Library.

older lotr illustrations sometimes depict éowyn wearing ridiculously small armour. apart from the problem general sexualisation of the only female character (who really does anything), there’s another hilarious thought:

éowyn pretended to be dernhelm, a man. to fit in, she must have worn men’s armor. so the armor in the illustrations is normal for rohirrim.

therefore, all the rohirrim rode to war just like that:

Frank Frazetta was the reason He-Man was designed like that; the producers conduct a study to see what art appeal the most to children, and Frank’s work came out on top in popularity. So everyone in He-Man is dressed the way they are directly because of Frazetta.

I can’t remember now if it was Frank Frazetta and his Mrs. who used their own bodies for character models or if that was Boris and Mrs. Vallejo. Both pairs were ripped, though.

one of the most difficult things about deciding you want to write a fictional doctor (of the non-who variety) is writing actual medical scenes. we all know that medical dramas are notoriously cliched, and i for one fully understand how unimportant factual accuracy can be to the emotional importance of a scene. sometimes you don’t have to get it write for your story to work. i have a disclaimer on my blog that i myself am just a layman, but i like to at least know what i’m writing about! in the interest of being as accurate as i can, i would like to spread that love around. here’s a list of medical fiction/fantasy writing resources i’ve found!
