At first the idea of his freedom having such a steep price was a really cool idea, but with the way it's handled it's just... blegh.

Forgetting Sunny didn't really affect the characters all that much, even though he had a massive impact on their lives.

Sure we're told Neph is missing half her heart and Cassie was a broken mess because of forgetting sunny but we don't really see any of it. Their actions are the same, their thoughts are the same, what they do is the same. We never really see them struggle with what they've lost.

In fact it literally just made things easier for them because Sunny could very easily become a footnote in history and be forgotten by everyone, delaying the awakening of the forgotten God.

He had infinitely more freedom to set things up and do what he wanted because of the complete information void on him.

He was able to rekindle his relationships even if they forgot him, they even figured out who he was eventually all on their own.

There were no real consequences to this beside Sunny being a bit depressed

Imagine if things weren't that simple though. Sunny wouldn't be able to fade into obscurity. His actions would be monitored by valor and song, restricting his freedom.

He wouldn't be able to fake his death, not after Antarctica. There would be a whole score of people who would side with him if he tried to pull that stunt, fading into obscurity would be all but impossible. Bearing weavers lineage would actually cost something instead of him just doing what he wanted to since he was a sleeper.

All the while he has to deal with not having access to the nightmare spell, meaning he has no shot of becoming a god fast enough.

Also I just don't like how the shadow bond is handled post third nightmare.

No he was not immature for wanting to get rid of it what the fuck? It completely strips him of his free will, getting rid of it is the logical conclusion.
