So in pact when Mags lost her name Sandra told her not to ask the fae courts to get involved because they would make things worse well this idea is what If they did.

My idea is that the faerie love of narrative would lead them to see Mags as an underdog story so they see the idea of giving her enough identity to not die immediately and they do this by waterboarding her in glamour and taking out the things they dislike like how it’s mentioned how the faerie cut out the parts of themselves they don’t like and maybe use to be practionirs themselves.

Well in this concept they take it more literally and actually cut out the parts of Mags that don’t fit the narrative they want as they dump more and more glamor on to her. This leaves us with fae!Mags who kinda still acts like her if you don’t look to hard at her she kind of remembers that she used to be human maybe? That she has to find Padrick for revenge she thinks? Her family kinda sorta? And Blake who she remembers in full because she’s not Maggie holt so her connection wasn’t cut Leading her to see him as a life line which becomes a problem when he comes back in the mirror and sees what has happened and gets understandably upset and ends up seeing her change the same way he sees his friends now remember Rose

I like the setting it felt lived in once the writing found its feet Jacob’s bell is a town you could drive through and not think Much of and it’s a fun setting

I like the cast especially in the back half

Blake, even, green eyes and Mags were personal favourites

The story and how it ended up was good

Arcs 3, 8 and 9 are the standouts

The whole second half flows really well

Rose is good when she is onscreen but left the plot a little too often for me

It took to long to fully humanise the families over all

I want more stories about the abyss

Padrick was probably the best antagonist of the book if you don’t count the abyss as a character

The Toronto arcs dragged on and made for like half the time it took me to read this thing

The major threats like Faysal or the lawyers or conquest were less interesting than the human or less Eldridge antagonists like the Duchamp marriages or Paul and lairds police brutality

The barber is the exception to that great monster

The work was best when it was focused on its casts trauma the generational divides and how the system can go against people and push them down using magic as metaphor and Allegory while showing the real thing so it avoids the x-men problem

The esoteric stuff is sometimes a bit much for me to rap my head around
