get a room. ok now get another room. now a few more. now add a roof and a door. yay house yay
hai hello, Iām not super into mcr (their music is great tho) but Iāve been observing the concert lore thru u. I was curious as to whatās up with she/hering Gerard? I had not seen it before following you but it also rocks and was wanting to know more
Live grenade just rolled across the floor and gently tapped against the toe of my boot, coming to a stop
For me SPECIFICALLY I kind of just like to play pronoun jazz. You'll see me she/her Gerard the most frequently (because I talk about him the most frequently) but I'll dip my toe into she/her for Ray or Frank too. It's more of the "gay she" usage, almost a badge of honor. I'm also like... genuinely apathetic about pronouns, you'll notice I have none listed on my blog, I PERSONALLY feel like pronouns are more of a signifier of respect than anything else and I care more that someone addresses me with respect than I do about the words they use specifically. (This is not the same as 'any pronouns', in my head, which is why I don't have just that listed. But explaining my personal conception of gender is not the point of this post and also might be literally impossible to verbalize)
To that end, I don't consider she/hering Gerard (or Ray, or Frank, etc) disrespectful because they're never gonna see it and plus I genuinely don't think they would care lol. Gerard in particular has been pretty open about enjoying androgyny and even presenting as a girl for brief periods in the past, I don't think they would mind a little she/her action as long as it's meant with affection. (There are definitely fans who seem to only employ the she/hering in misogynistic ways, I emphatically do not fuck with that.)
While Gerard has spoken a bit about identifying with femininity and doing a lot of reflection on transgenderism as it relates to his own identity, I would never claim to have any knowledge of his actual gender. They have clearly expressed their distaste for labeling themselves, and as someone who shares that view, I respect that. For me, talking about putting them on HRT or she/hering them or whatever is no more disrespectful or invasive than talking about them sucking and/or fucking their guitaristsāI'm just playing toys. I'm not saying it's impossible that they may one day decide to use those pronouns or take HRT (or, I guess, suck and fuck their guitarists), I'm saying that I literally don't know, I don't care, it's none of my business until they make it my business, and I maintain a clear distinction in my head between "Gerard Way the real person who exists" and "the paper doll of Gerard Way I write fics of and post silly things about".
Picks up grenade. Desperately hurls it towards body of water. Waits with bated breath
ICE is planning on equipping all of their officers with body cams. Not to hold them accountable when they kill people but "for the department's best interest". Now obviously body cams don't keep pigs from killing anyone, not really, but with the way this is phrased I cannot help but think that the sole purpose of these cameras will be to generate propaganda for the trump regime. I hate it here.
No, it's worse. Body cams allow officers to record every person they interact with, logging your face and the time/date of the interaction into a database, allowing them to start keeping a record of who complies easily, and who resists. Modern policing is dragnets all the way down.
Don't worry, I got you!

nasa is using a 3D world graphic for the solar eclipse thingy today where germany is still devided in east and west adjfglkafdhgadfg. buddies, it's been almost 40 years.
So I showed this to a physicist and they were like "Oh! Yes! It's a figure from Fred Espenak's very old paper where he did a bunch of eclipse graphics! I've been looking at these my entire internet life, basically, for every solar eclipse! They called him Mr. Eclipse. He just passed away recently š„ŗ"
Anyway apparently Mr. Eclipse made 5000 years' worth of solar eclipse graphics, which you can find the simpler versions of here
So now instead of laughing at NASA for their outdated graphics I'm emotional about Mr. Eclipse and his hard work

taylor swift invited a guy who owns and operates an ice detention center to her wedding swifties can pack it up forever now your bitch is awful
Wild how no one made announcements like this about P.Diddy when his trial was happening.
Wild how abusive artists like Micheal Jackson can have biography movies made and not a single mention of accused abuses or the subsequent trials will be mentioned.
Hmmmm I wonder why people feel the need to explicitly condemn women and any action they may have possibly been a part of (like inviting a shitty guy to your wedding) yet do not extend this same behavior to men in the same industry who commit abuse and atrocities on a much larger scale š¤?
yeah i hate concentration camps because i hate women you caught me

Look, I'm glad to see more Asian representation in media, but this hype over the Wasians (mixed white-Asians) is making this Asian borderline uncomfortable š¬
Firstly, Blasians (mixed Black-Asians) don't get this much hype for being mixed and we all know why š¤”
Secondly, media and the public almost always put on a pedestal a very specific type of mixed Wasians, those of East Asian descent. I don't see as much hype for the Wasians of South Asian, Southeast Asian or West Asian descent. And of course, we all know why š¤”
Like I thought we had this discourse back in the early 2010s criticising how Asian representation in YA fiction tended to be Wasians?
Bring this back cos no one talks up the Asian heritage of the Blasians like Anderson Paak, H.E.R and Saweetie or the Latinasians like Bruno Mars. No one raises this much hype for the mixed white-South Asian actors. No one includes Olivia Rodrigo (white-Filipino) in the "Republic of Wasia"
The way none of these Wasians are darker than a paper bag š¬š¬š¬
(Left to right: Lola Tung, Alysa Liu, Megan Skiendiel, Laufey, Hudson Williams)
Precisely. We need to kill this phenomenon of the Wasian nation memes dead. Wasians are literally being used as a trend, at the expense of dehumanising themselves and erasing/ignoring mixed race Asians who don't pass the paperbag test.
God forbid non-white mixed Asians and monoracial Asians criticise the recent hype around Wasians and talk about proximity to whiteness, antiblackness and colorism, or butthurt Wasians will flood their comments sections accusing them of being divisive or complaining about how they are excluded by the Asian community. Babes, Blasians actully get excluded a lot from the Asian community becos of antiblackness, these feelings of not belonging and alienation aren't exclusive to Wasians š
The Wasian meet-ups are just boba liberal bs. Becos yall were so annoyingly loud with your damn meet-ups during AAPI month and acting like victims when yall get called out by other mixed Asians and monoracial Asians for centering your whiteness. Nolan Wells is literally mixed Asian with a Blasian mother who's grieving him, they're from your community as well, but yall are staying mad quiet about his murder and the harassment his mother is receiving š¤”

#let me be for real for a moment some of the reasons kanji have so many readings are #they entered the Japanese language as loanwords multiple times at different times of history #so different Chinese pronunciations = different kanji reading #as Chinese pronunciation changed plus a lot of loanwoards entered Japanese as specialised language #some of the readings are kind of euphonic changes depending on what the kanji is attached to (sh sounds vs j sounds vs z sounds a big one) #and some are the old Japanese word that was attached to a kanji with the same meaning = nama #which is also why there are so many homophones since Chinese is a tonal language and Japanese isn't @pudentilla
OHHHH IT'S ONYOMI VS KUNYOMI TIME!! Okay sorry for the caps but this is a subject I actually think is really cool.
So the official term for this, when a kanji is read one way in some contexts and a different way in others, is usually a case of onyomi vs kunyomi. -yomi, "reading" (from yomu "to read") basically categorizes words into whether you read them with the chinese pronunciation or the japanese pronunciation.
There are a lot of complicated factors that go into this but the easiest way for english speakers to wrap their heads around it is that the Japanese language ended up with multiple sets of vocabulary in the same way that the English language did with the Germanic language/Romance language split; you have one set of vocabulary for common, everyday use that derives from germanic vocab, and then another set of vocabulary for fancy, formal use that derives from Latinate vocab. The classic example is using swine to describe the animal, which the Germanic-speaking Anglo-Saxon farmers and handlers would tend to, and porc to describe the meat, which the French-speaking Normans would eat. But pretty much every word in the English language has some degree of casual-formal duplication of this kind.
Much like European scholars did with Latin, a bunch of vocabulary got imported by the literati of Japan starting around about the 5th century in order to have a different and more formal register to talk about certain topics. This was imported alongside the Chinese writing system at the same time, which then over the next few centuries was shifted into a simpler, non-logographic, syllabic script that became hiragana (the wavy one.)
But that means that a bunch of imported Chinese vocabulary was conventionally written in their original-or-close-to-it hanzi form, and spoken with their original-or-close-to-it Chinese pronunciation. Words of this type have a much higher incidence of long vowels, left over from the Chinese where each character would represent a single complex syllable varied by vowel intonation, compared to native Japanese words which are polysyllabic and hit more consonants.
So, the system has evolved in various directions over time, and now there are a lot of ways that a single character can be read depending on positioning and context, but the broad strokes are: if the kanji is mostly on its own, surrounded by hiragana, it will take the Japanese reading (kunyomi) and if it's part of a compound word, paired with other kanji, it will take the Chinese reading (onyomi.) The more formal the text -- especially notable with medical, scientific, or governmental texts -- the more dense and compacted it will get, with a much higher ratio of kanji compounds to hiragana, and a correspondingly higher dose of onyomi readings.
To leave off with one example: the video above highlights (ę), which is 'hand.' When it appears by itself surrounded by simple words like participles, it takes the kunyomi te, like in the sentence 'take my hand' (ęćę”ć£ć¦, te o nigitte.) But if you are using it as part of a more abstraction concept, like in ęå -- done by hand, or manual, see how the english term underwent the exact same shift into latinate when it gains a level of abstraction? -- then it becomes part of a compound word with another kanji. Now it takes the onyomi shu, to become part of the compound word shudou. Catch that long vowel! If it weren't part of a compound word, that å by itself would take the kunyomi hataraki, for motion or action.
Anyway, onyomi and kunyomi, fun!
Some more examples in English:
'Troupe', 'troop', and 'thorp'. Loaned from French twice, as well as the homegrown term for a small village/group of houses.
'Pack', and 'bailey'. Native word and French loan.
"Sir', 'sire', 'seigneur' and 'Monsieur'. All from French at slightly different times and in different contexts.
Same with 'dame', 'dam', 'madam', and 'ma'am'.
'Mister', 'master', 'magister' and 'maƮtre d'. All from Latin and French.
To 'spout' and 'spit'. First is from Dutch, second is native English.
To 'wake', 'watch' and 'wait'. First two are native English, third is from French.
To 'ward' versus 'guard'. Same word, but the second one was borrowed into Latin and then back into English from French.
In English the connections are disguised by using different characters for each word, but it's the same process!
friend of mine recommended a video essay that's like 5 hours long about why it's currently a whole Thing for fascists to claim they only eat meat and demonize vegetables etc etc, and it's genuinely quite well researched in many places and contains some fascinating history and has made me feel very weird about my status as an adult who enjoys drinking milk. but I've not finished it and I genuinely don't know if I will because at one point the ol' "you can't say you care about animals and also eat animals" chestnut got dropped by the white vegan essayist and it put such a bad taste in my mouth that I had to leave instantly
like idk man it just feels genuinely parodic to dedicate hours to analyzing how foodways have frequently been used as white supremacist propaganda and then casually toss out an argument that pretty invariably demonizes indigenous hunting practices with 0 regard for traditional knowledge and land stewardship guiding those practices
Every time I hear a white vegan say that I want to throw the rubble of the Klamath Dams at them.
The largest dam removal in U.S. history. So successful that the salmon that havenāt run freely in the river for literally over a century came back the next year. Not steady progress over a decade as expected, the very next salmon run they came home. No one alive saw salmon in that river outside the hatcheries kept by nativeās tribes and the Department of Fish And Wildlife scientists desperately trying to save them. One of the activists who helped bring the suit spoke of their dying grandmother making them promise to bring the fish home, and they didnāt know how that was possible, but they spent decades doing it.
The legal basis for successfully suing the power company who owned the dams was Indigenous treaty rights to eat the fish. Eating the fish was the one thing in a century that succeeded in being a clear and legally binding right that superseded the desires of white capital and industry. I have been going to the public interest environmental law conference off and on for 20 years where a lot of organizing for Undam The Klamath happened. Iāve heard updates about every legal tact they tried as they happened, and they tried everything.
There are healthy, thriving salmon, trout, and lamprey in a rewilding and recovering Klamath River right now as a direct result of Indigenous people eating them. Of their legally binding right to eat them. They sure as fuck care more about those fish than any white vegan ever could. They are salmon people that the Creator sent Salmon to feed, while charging the People with protecting and stewarding them. Itās not possible to learn about salmon and trout in the Pacific Northwest without learning this, and itās unambiguously racist to dismiss this symbiotic relationship.
The white vegans are trying to get all hunting and fishing banned in Oregon, and thatās quite possibly the single most catastrophic thing that could be done to the animals here because we killed off all the major predators of creatures like deer and without anything hunting them their numbers will explode, eat all the vegetation, destroy the ecosystem, and then die along with everything else in that failing ecosystem. Controlled hunting of deer is vitally necessary for the deer to survive. This is something Native people know, but patronizing racist savior-complex white people refuse to listen to.
I have a whole collection of Oregonās Public Broadcastingās documentaries about Klamath River or the larger story of fish and people in the region. If you watch nothing else, watch Klamath Dams Are Coming Out, First Salmon Ceremony, After The Dams, and First Decent (Native made). It could not be clearer that the salmon are being protected and nourished by the people who eat them, and that stewardship is a massive part of their creation myths. But it contradicts political vegan dogma so they donāt listen.
The Klamath River Runs Free
#also do you have any idea how much conservation is funded by people who want to eat those animals#at least in the us anytime someone buys ammo or hunting equipment or hunting licenses that money goes directly to state wildlife agencies

Hello, I work for a large moderately evil corporation and for at least five years now I have to sign a yearly thing to say I will never ever have one of these devices in the same room as me while I work.
My large moderately evil employer takes it for granted that these things are spying on me at all times, and you should too.
thereās something so embarrassing about all the cast members in the new harry potter series that are openly being like āi want everyone to know i donāt agree with jk rowlingās views on trans peopleā like they think that will make up for them being on the show. maybe itās just for the sake of their own consciences but it reads as āi know her views and actions harm people but iām in it for the paycheckā. itās not like this is just an adaptation of rowlingās work without her involvement, she is an executive producer on the show š at that point just donāt say anything
