This is one of those posts that I scrolled past, but then I reconsidered my life choices and came back.

We take away public spaces, we accuse young people of “Loitering”, overly police what they do and where they go, and don’t have spaces where they can be THEMSELVES without constant Adult Supervision (or at least judgmental kind) and then we wonder why they turn to their phones. It’s because the other activities they have are over structured and don’t leave room for just hanging out. Everything we do anymore must be “productive”. Like it must make money, be something approved to look good on a College Resume or something. Like kids need to just putter around and BE.
