Fanfiction Gifts for Donations to Indigenous Communities in Canada
For those of you who don't know, Canada is on fire, and Indigenous communities are being disproportionately affected by the overwhelming damage.
A few Call of Duty fanfic writers here on tumblr are coming together to write fics for those who show proof of donation to charities such as:
Anishinabek Nation 7th Generation Charity
Ontario Native Women's Association
Mikinakoos Emergency Fund
Red Cross
True North Aid
Indigenous Climate Action
Any others with an appeal that appears on an official First Nation, Tribal Council or registered charity channel
At the moment, we have 30 slots open! If you are interested in receiving a fanfiction as a gift for your donation, more information is below the cut! (Even if you're not interested, we ask that you please reblog!)
Rules:
You MUST be 18 years or older for this event. Please have it marked somewhere on your blog when requesting! (Or even in your message to us if that makes you more comfortable. We don't need an exact age, just ensure that you're not a minor!)
Prompts are first come first serve! The first 30 people who show vetted/verified proof of donation will be getting fics! We will close our asks when we've met our threshold!
We require a 10$ (or your local currency equivalent) minimum donation. Donating more than 10$ will not get you anything more, but if you have the means to donate more, we encourage it!
Each fic will be around 1,000 words
We are writing for the 141 characters (Ghost, Gaz, Price, Soap) only!
We are doing character x reader fics only!
No dark/Dead Dove: Do Not Eat content, including but not limited to:
fauxcest/incest
murder/violence/death/abuse
underage or age play
nonconsensual sexual content
kidnapping
bestiality, etc.
All fics will be in English
Prompts will go into a pool for writers to choose from. You do not get to choose/request who writes your gift. Our group of writers includes:

Send that screenshot, along with your prompt, into our ask box!
You should receive your gift in roughly 1-2 months!
Prompts should be easy to fit into 1,000 words! For example:
Character x reader date night on the beach with some fluff/smut
Childhood best friends meeting again at a coffee shop for the first time after being away from each other for years
Meet cute at (location)
“Tags” like ‘hurt/comfort’ ‘there was only one bed’ etc helps loads!

read this thread. this is by far the most concise explanation of a lot of different issues that i’ve seen in fandom spaces in a while. cosigning both the linked thread and the thread about aus/uk/can law that’s linked in-thread.
If someone has never taken a class that includes copyright law, they may not know this stuff, so I don’t necessarily blame random people for not knowing what copyright is, but like… maybe just maybe it’s something that should be taught????
Just another reminder, because this always drives me crazy, but even if monetizing your fic was 100% unambiguously legal and protected, AO3 would still not let you do it because AO3 was founded and is supported by people like me who want a fandom community that is completely divested from making money off of fic.
Yes, this. Lots of fanworks on AO3 are unambiguously legal. Fics based on Shakespeare plays and fairy tales and Greek mythology and The Great Gatsby and your original character from your D&D game are not violations of copyright, because no copyright applies to those things.
AO3 still doesn’t let you monetize those things on the site, because we don’t want the site to be commercial! Because that’s not what it’s for!
It’s not there for you (generic you) to make money off the efforts of the people who build and maintain the site for free! We aren’t getting paid for the work we do to give you a nice site to use, just like you aren’t getting paid for the work you do to create whatever art you share there. Because fandom is supposed to be a community where we share with each other, and therefore we all benefit.
The deal is, we give you a free, stable, safe platform to host your works. In exchange, you get a site that isn’t covered in ads and tip jars and links to gofundme and “read the next chapter at my patreon”. You get one goddamn place on the internet that isn’t trying to make money off you. And we will defend that space and keep it non-commercial.
If you want to make money off your fics, you can instead post them somewhere like royal Road. “Oh, but Royal Road’s culture is so much more negative and stressful and lacks the supportive norms of AO3!” Yeah, because people are trying to make money there. Half the userbase is treating it as a storefront and hustling is the natural social consequence of that. AO3’s culture can only exist because it’s not commercial.
every year small towns and indigenous communities across canada are burnt to nothing by horrific wildfires and americans go on the internet to complain about it and blame us bc the smoke has spread to their state. i’m so tired.
go yell at mark carney or your own local politicians about climate change and urge them to do more to stop it. the namaygoosisagagun first nation had their community destroyed today. you can find a link to donate to them here. donate to your local food bank. go to the beach next week when the smoke clears and you don’t have to think about it anymore while the people who’s lives have been destroyed will have to pick up the pieces and try to move forward when we are already in a huge cost of living crisis across the country.

Genuinely would like to ask— does anybody else get tagged in these “save my family” post from blogs constantly? I genuinely cannot tell if it’s bots or real people, but this is the 10th time week I got tagged in a post. I don’t know if it’s actually real people or bots, how can I tell? I need help.

every day I learn bot comments on ao3 are stooping lower and lower
anyway if you get a comment like this, chances are that they are bot and their goal is to do whatever it takes to get you to delete your work, most certainly (from what I’ve heard) it’s because they want to “safely” steal your work, use it to train their ai without you being able to rightfully claim ownership of your work since “there’s no proof that the work was stolen/was posted elsewhere first by you” because the original source has already been deleted.
THEY ARE ALL BOTS. at first it was “ao3 is deleting fics and your entire account will be affected unless you delete the fics yourself” then it was “this work contains contents that are illegal and they have already reported you and your fic to the police” (yes, that’s how desperate these bots are), and now it’s this.
report their comments to ao3 for spam—in this case, specifically, I think you may be able to report them for harassment too—and don’t pay attention to them, most importantly don’t delete your works, don’t feel discouraged by their comments. remember that they are bots and they mass comment something like this on people’s works at random to get people to delete their works. (or even if they’re not bot, they are still pathetic bullies who don’t deserve your time or attention.)

i really like the fanart of adrian that involves them being much bigger than rocky
but i don't think we've gone big enough
as for their dynamic, i like to think of adrian viewing grace the same way that elephants view people
like a cute but weird little pet that rocky brought home and adrian is initially not onboard with it because they're "not a cat/dog person" but in this case it's a weird alien that rocky brought home from space
but then by the end of the day they're snuggling together and adrian refuses to hand him over to a shelter while still insisting they don't care for the tiny human, he's just so helpless and SOMEONE'S gotta care for him
