Summary: 

Daphne Langford loves a good story - why else would she choose to study English at the University of Oxford? However, the freedom of third year finally allows her to extend her degree to a form of art she's been waiting to explore: music.

After a night out gone wrong, enter Andrew, a cynical but driven postgraduate student with a passion for politics, mythology and all of the juicy theoretical expertise she needs to bring her thesis to life. Thinking they'll never meet again, fate just so happens to put Andrew right in Daphne's path... as her thesis supervisor.

Between stealing glances at formal dinners and chance encounters in the city of gleaming spires, will the 'whiskey-glass-half-empty' singer and the driven optimist allow themselves to cross the boundary between musical allegories and reality, or are the smoke and mirrors offered by the whimsical city of gleaming spires too perfect of an illusion to hide behind?

After all he's been through, she just might be "too sweet" for him...

In most situations, the hatred isn't because they want to, but because they have to for the sake of the situation they're in - this makes the conflicting emotions so intense because

"mother I don't want to hate him", "well my dear it is your duty!"

"If I don't beat this kid I won't get into my dream school - but neither will she..."

"I could kill them right now to ensure my survival but they look super cute camouflaged as a rock ugh"

I was playing DnD last night and was thinking about how the gang are similar in the sense of being a ragtag group who fight monsters, so here are my headcanons for their DnD personas :)

Fred: Okay so Fred's alignment would be chaotic good; he'd have trap sense, disable device and specialise in trapmaking but he'd also have decent intelligence as he likes to make plans. Rogues are typically great at traps, but I definitely see him more as a trapper ranger due to his character and he'd be of greater strength than your typical nimble rogue.

Daphne: Rogue is what first springs to mind here as she's resourceful, up for combat, has great diplomacy and acrobatics and potentially a great bluff; I'd also put her at chaotic good because as we've seen she can be (brilliantly) unpredictable but ultimately everything she does is with her heart on her sleeve.

Velma: At first thought I'd lean towards sorcerer for Velma, but on further inspection I think perhaps a wizard, as she's more likely to have gone and studied for her magic than simply inheriting it. We all know she's smart but I think she'd also be good at communicating with nature, and less combat-focussed - definitely a lawful good alignment here.

Shaggy: As a master of distraction who's great at demoralising enemies and using disguise, Shaggy would be a bard. He's never afraid to play a tune and be the bait, before letting his teammates go in for the capture. Chaotic good for the Shagster.

Scooby: I considered making Scooby Shaggy's familiar (animal assistant pal basically) but I think he's got enough personality to have his own class and differentiate. Simply due to primal animalistic ferocity (which Scooby only really has when you mess with his friends), I'd say he could be a barbarian :) due to his heart of gold, I'd say lawful good.

We’re so used to just having little interactions or hints between them and feeding off the tiniest looks/comments that this movie rlly hits you like a TRUCK. Watching Daphne literally sing ‘I love you’ to Fred almost put me in a cardiac arrest.

We get to see more in this movie around the cute little friendships within the gang; Daphne goes to Velma for advice and they have an adorable sisterly bond, the same thing happens when Fred asks Shaggy and Scooby what to do. I’d like to think that this leads to Shaggy and Velma gossiping in the back of the van about how Fred and Daph just need to talk to each other and how oblivious they are.

When Scooby saves Shaggy and he gets head pats (not about Fraphne but it was super cute so shh)

How obviously neurodivergent Fraphne are in this - Daphne’s ADHD rambling as well as both of them being unable to read the extremely obvious social cues from each other. Even when Daphne admits her love to Velma, she’s genuinely convinced this is a secret nobody could figure out. I love them, our clueless losers <3

How Daphne immediately clams up and stumbles over her words, rambling on nervously at even the slightest suggestion that they might be into each other (e.g. at the comment 'you two make a cute couple) - this is a girl who's canonically had her own tv show, sang in public multiple times, she's a confident speaker. But her crush on Fred makes her nervous :')

When Fred realises that Daphne's trying to throw the competition with the silly jokes after their performance, he picks it up straight away and goes full ham with a smile, he's happy to support her and have a bit of fun even though they're losing out on so much money and also embarrassing themselves on national television. But he doesn't care, he's just having a laugh with Daph.

The overwhelming frustration that comes with the credits scene where they’re about to officially confess and Velma interrupts them. I’m still in recovery as we speak.

Finally can we just appreciate Daphne's lyrics to Fred's song for a sec because I'm literally gonna implode:
