tell me you lack media literacy without telling me🙏 you really can’t handle watching something with an unapologetic and complex female character that actively learns from every mistake she makes.

yes, devi does make many many horrible decisions throughout the show. and i know when i say this it’ll always rise the “not everyone is responsible for her dad dying” argument, but if you even watch the freaking show it is very clear that all of her actions are irrational and not inherently because of her fathers passing, but usually can be traced back to that event.

i don’t think people realize what she even went through. firstly being bullied in school, then WATCHING your father die right infront of you and tons of classmates at your orchestra concert, THEN getting bullied even more because the event broke you so much your legs became paralyzed and you were wheelchair bound.

and no, this does not EXCUSE her cheating on Ben and Paxton, her ditching her friends in time of need, starting rumors about Aneesa, or any other endless things. but it does give reason to those actions.

and we actively see her experience the consequences and learn from those mistakes. we see her actively going to therapy and for the most part listening to her therapist. you can tell she is trying to get better, some people just heal differently from others.

i believe that sometimes when she acts out, it’s a way to bring attention in a way that isn’t sympathy. it’s clear that she hates being pitied, especially over her dads passing. so in order to not be pitied, she allows people to be mad as her as to take the attention away from that.
