Don't leave your friends and even acquaintances to go to the hospital alone. If they don't have someone already going with them and don't explicitly tell you they don't want you there, go to advocate for them. Outcomes for sick people change dramatically when they have someone else there to observe doctors (making them know they can't get away with negligence) and note symptoms from an outside perspective.

Going to the hospital is scary and even someone totally unprepared to be a medical advocate or physical support will be better than nothing, purely from their presence. You can grab food, be there with your phone to search if theirs dies, go in search of a doctor, distract them from pain or discomfort... go with them.

#my friend took me for my conscious sedation appointment when my parents couldn't #I spent a day with a mate at uni who like we were friends but not that close as he went round places when he cut his chin open #(why we didn't hit minor injuries first I'll never know but got there eventually)#(also he ran into a (big metal) bin which is how he cut it open and everyone laughed #except for the receptionist at minor injuries #who was Not phased at all)#actually that year between me that guy and another mate who had an allergic reaction to eye drops #I spent so much time at that hospital my phone auto connected to their WiFi rather than the uni one when I was close #anyway all that to say definitely go with your friends or anyone who needs it #not only is it scary and you can help keep things light #but if it's not scary it can be boring which is like just as anxiety inducing #also I spent years saying it was Wild that the doctors didn't come and speak to me after my endometriosis surgery #so the only time I was told what happened was the vague memory I have of waking up on the way to the recovery room #only to find out last year that actually they Did come round #I just don't remember it #so yeah DEFINITELY take someone with you

waaaay back when I was a cashier in retail we would talk about dumb shit while unloading the truck, and we got to the "what would you do in a zombie apocalypse" me and another worker were like yeah we would just die. End it all, we can't fight or run or shit. I refuse to put that much effort into survival.

And my manager was like no!!!! If that happened, I would drive to find you guys in my truck and we could eat stuff from my wife's garden and I would make sure everyone I know survived!! I would carry you all on my shoulders away from the zombies!!

Anyway, random shout out to that guy. You were too kind for retail management, Devin.
