Oh by the way if you view nonbinary people as having to be either transmasc or transfem, or being man/woman-lite, or tma/tme, or literally anything except what they tell you about their gender, you are transphobic
Stop forcing nonbinary people INTO A FUCKING BINARY.
I think we are focusing on the wrong thing when talking about mainstream romantasy adult books, instead of shaming straight cis women for reading kinky books, we should tralk about how most of the newer books aimed at that demographic are just conservative propoganda, rebranding patriarchy as a kink.
There's nothing inherently wrong about liking the types of kinks that are present, control, power imbalance, dark themes, but when you really look at the top performing novels (which they are mass prodicing at questionable speeds) it's hard to ignore the ever present morally grey man, who's posessive over the heroine who starts off as otherworldly different from the 'regular woman' aka damsel in distress), is cruel to everyone except her, and the fantasy world revolves around the control of women, especially when it comes to forced pregnancy.
I'm seeing a lot of responses to this saying "this is why I read queer stories" but you're missing the point! You can relate to queer media because you're queer, cis straight women should also have material that aren't turning their opression into kinks in almost every. single. book. If they want to choose to read those stories, that's absolutely fine, again nothing wrong with exploring those dynamics, but the concerning part is how fast they're being made with the rise of booktok, and the looming threat to women's autonomy.
Remember when all mlm stories were borderine assault stories in the early 90s-2000s? and how long it took for other queer stories to be made? we all used our voices to make a change, it didn't magically stop we fought for it to not be the only type of story.
And the solution to this, for people who are wondering, isn't to try to suppress romantasy books because they're not "good for women." That's an old, old game and never goes anywhere good. The solution is not less kink and less porn. The solution is more kink and more porn.
Because when you think about it, the problem isn't that you can go to your chosen bookseller and find a story where Sparklia Special gets semi-forced to have babies for Broody McDarkenfay (it's okay, she's into it). The problem is that it is unnecessarily difficult to look a little further down the shelf and find a vampire princess domming the hell out of the hunter who knows he shouldn't love her. Reducing people's choices always serves the reactionary agenda one way or another. Expanding choices. That's where it's at.
(If this sounds like I am making a pitch that we should write porn to defeat fascism, that'sā¦not entirely a mischaracterization. I mean, of course it won't defeat fascism, but I do feel that while we work to defeat fascism, we should at least have diverse and satisfying porn.)
You know, there's this clichƩ that teenage boys always eat massive amounts, but teenage girls really aren't that different if they're not suppressed by diet culture and body shaming. Like, I was a teenage girl who frankly just stopped bothering to fit into mainstream beauty ideals at some point, and I would regularly make myself just one big massive pot of pasta and devour it completely. This wasn't even stress eating or anything, I just genuinely needed the energy because you know, I was a teenager and my body was developing. I feel like so many teenage girls think they need to eat as little as possible to be petite and pretty, but the truth is that your body is developing just as intensely as teenage boys' bodies. Eat more, please, your body needs it.

I was talking about this with a friend but a really interesting cultural shift over the last ohhhhhh ten years maybe is that many people in fandoms view themselves as stakeholders and not audience members. Because of that, they think that the fandom should be running things, or at least have an acknowledged say in how something is run. And every reminder that they are not in control, no matter how small, bothers them.
iām so glad goncharov happened pre ai slop era
#weird way to describe 1973 but i guess itās accurate
i DO believe that a good writer can make mischaracterization work. oh there's a character who doesn't normally cry? figure it out!! dissect the character. make the situation cryable for them. make that character cry ugly tears even if it goes against their very nature. YOU CAN MAKE IT WORK!!!
I think it was @derinthescarletpescatarian who I saw say something to the effect of;
Instead of saying "They wouldn't do that", instead ask "What would it take for them to do that?", and then put those circumstances into place.
Very useful advice but I'm pretty sure I didn't give it
As @derinthescarletpescatarian once said, "To thine own self be true."
Don't make this the next Tumblr meme I am begging you
As @derinthescarletpescatarian once said,
"Please make this the next Tumblr meme!"
My mentions are gonna be fucked
The reason why so many of y'all's feminism sucks is because you still believe deep down in your hearts that there are only two kinds of people in the world: precious, ethereal, fragile dollthings called "women", and violent, lustful, rage-fueled apes called "men". Until you throw that idea away, 3rd-grade-tier "girls rule boys drool, girls are princesses and boys are stinky :(" is as feminist as we'll ever get-- and I hope it's obvious that that's lightyears away from the bare minimum of where we need to be.
I don't know how I'm supposed to explain to ostensibly trans-friendly feminists that "women are beautiful soft things made of glass, men are obsessed with violence and sex" is exactly what the patriarchy wants you to believe. Patriarchy wants you to believe that being a woman and/or having a vagina (patriarchy generally believes those two things are synonymous) makes one shatter on impact with reality. It makes you easier to control if you are scared shitless of the other half of the population, and it makes you more compliant with your lot in life if you believe it is in the nature of the other half of the population to rape and kill rather than realise those were choices those individual rapists and murderers made. There is no way to make gender essentialism progressive and feminist, because it is one of patriarchy's tools of subjugation. Stop trying to make it progressive.
And I can scream all of that from the rooftops over and over again, and what I hear in reply is "Trans men really are men because no woman would ever decide to become an inherently evil repugnant rapist ape", and "You're so right. Trans women are women because they too are pretty delicate little objects I can fuck", and "You're non-binary? So are you fucktoy non-binary or sexpest non-binary?", and my patience runs ever thinner.

being with someone romantically will make you think insane thoughts like, "i wonder what i can do to make them fall for me...maybe i'll start lifting weights." meanwhile it's a known fact they're already in love with you.

Tumblr is the reason why I have something I call the cashier test which is, if i told this to a random cashier at the grocery store, would they think you're crazy at best or at worst would they be warranted in leaping over the counter and beating the shit out of you. Karl Marx mpreg is crazy, but not beating the shit out of you crazy. The cashier will probably talk about you to their coworkers and it might even make their day. Telling someone they're complicit in their own oppression by working a minimum wage job at a grocery store makes them warranted in leaping over the counter to beat the shit out of you.
Now in handy infographic form for Tumblr users:
In September 1942, a single Japanese floatplane lifted off from a submarine off the coast of Oregon. In the cockpit sat Chief Warrant Officer Nobuo Fujita, carrying two 170-pound incendiary bombs and a 400-year-old samurai sword beside him in the cramped space.
His mission?
Drop the bombs over the forests of the Pacific Northwest, start a massive firestorm, and force the U.S. military to pull vital resources away from the Pacific theater.
Fujita released his bombs over Brookings, Oregon. But the mission failed. Recent rain had soaked the forest, and alert park rangers put out the small fires almost immediately. The war continued, and the strange, isolated attack slowly slipped into the margins of history.
Until 20 years later.
In 1962, a civic group in Brookings came up with an extraordinary idea. They found Fujita and invited him back as the guest of honor at their local festival.
The invitation caused national controversy and split the town. But the deepest conflict was inside Fujita himself. Deeply ashamed of what he had done during the war, Fujita accepted the invitation with a dark private promise. He packed his familyās ancient samurai sword in his luggage. Later, he admitted that if the Americans put him on trial for war crimes or publicly humiliated him, he planned to use the sword to commit seppuku, ritual suicide, right there.
But when he stepped off the plane, he was met not with hatred, but with handshakes, applause, and a town offering real forgiveness.
Overwhelmed by the mercy of the people he had once attacked, Fujita stepped to the podium and did something no one forgot. He knelt and gave the town his most treasured possession, his familyās 400-year-old samurai sword, as a lasting promise of peace.
For the rest of his life, Fujita helped fund student exchange programs between Japan and Oregon. He even returned to the exact place he had bombed and planted a redwood āpeace tree.ā When he died in 1997, Brookings named him an honorary citizen, and his daughter later returned to the forest to scatter some of his ashes on the land he had once tried to burn.
Today, that 400-year-old sword is displayed inside the Brookings Public Library, not as a trophy of war, but as a masterpiece of peace.

There is no excuse to part AI images on historical events.
Why not just use a real picture of Fujita, which this AI(?) is seemingly copying? Or it's a very enhanced and edited photograph.
The other details of the story are real, there are a lot of articles in legitimate sources about Nobua Fujita. It's a touching story of international reconciliation and friendship.
I hate when pop history social media has to juice up a story with an AI image.
