I truly think this is the best post I've made on my cat photo (not studio quality) Patreon I started running a few years ago for cat food and vet bill money. I do have a good camera i pull out when i have both time and spoons. No backdrops no fancy lighting. A lot of the time it's basically cute photos or videos from my phone. That i post on patreon and exchange for a few dollars a month i put in the vet fund. Which includes script food and one boy is legit disabled. Anyway. I think I made a clever post tonight. I'm going to link it. So I do 3D modeling and printing as a hobby, and a few weeks ago I designed wheel guards meant to prevent office chairs from running over cables and clothes... or your pet's tail.

I got the idea from cowcatchers old locomotives used to have.

Anyways, yesterday I uploaded the model to Thingiverse, and just hours after uploading it, the Community Relationship Manager of the whole website left a comment suggesting I enter the model into a competition that's currently being held on the site.

So I did... and now it's in third place not even a day later. First place is $500, but the competition still has a month to go.

Then the Community Manager contacted me again, telling me they want to feature my model in an upcoming design promotion.

Just, what is happening? I mostly made this thing for myself in, like, an hour, and now it's suddenly super popular? This is all a little bit overwhelming 😵‍💫

Other models I worked on for weeks didn't get nearly as popular. I swear, it's impossible to predict what people will like.

I've been working on oral hygiene. Brushing twice a day, flossing, mouthwash to various levels of sucess day to day, but improvement is improvement. Only. I don't like mint oral care. I lowkey maybe highkey only like mint chocolate. So when i decided i wanted to add mouthwash to the mix, i went with Strawberry kid's in Brand A. Pretty immediately the fruit fly infestation began. Localized to my master bathroom and bedroom. It became obvious it was my mouthwash. So i switched to Brand B also in Strawberry. Oh lordy.

I just had a fruit fly land on my tongue. And i proceeded to crush it there, on my tongue, in my, germphobe with a fruit fly on their tongue, panic.

Need to get in touch with my old therapist and EMDR this one.

I always thought Reddit was a place where people could share things they created.A few days ago I posted one of my original paintings. People loved it. We had wonderful conversations about art, emotions, and how everyone saw something different in the same sunset.

About two hours later I was permanently banned from r/MadeMeSmile for “self-promotion.”

I accepted that different communities have different rules.But then something even stranger happened.Soon afterward, a moderator from r/pics started going through my account. Not just the new post—many of my older painting posts disappeared as well. One after another. Then I was permanently banned there too.

Maybe it was the same moderator. Maybe it wasn’t. I honestly don’t know.

What surprised me wasn’t even the ban itself. It was realizing how much power individual moderators have over what millions of people are allowed to see. One decision can erase years of posts from a community and instantly cut off your ability to participate, even if those posts had been happily sitting there for months or years.I’m not saying moderators shouldn’t have rules. Communities need moderation.But it does make you wonder where the line is between protecting a community and allowing a single interpretation of the rules to completely reshape what people can share.

The funny part?

I wasn’t advertising anything in those posts. I wasn’t posting prices or asking anyone to buy anything. I was simply sharing my original paintings because I enjoy discussing art with strangers from around the world.

Anyway…

Came across this art installation, Liza Lou's Kitchen, at the Whitney Museum of American Art, NYC. It's a kitchen made of tiny glass beads, that artist Liza Lou did, taking 5 yrs. to complete, from 1991 - 1996.

My favorite part is the sink.

antiracism is a constant process. i was raised in a racist village and it's not easy to get rid of it. i moved away over 10 years ago but those ideas are still haunting me.

also keep in mind that shame + guilt are not conducive to growing as a person. when it comes to "checking yourself" it should be a non-judgemental process. it's not about flagellating yourself for every bad thought or trying to purify your mind of all corruption. it's only when acknowledging your own racist thoughts doesn't fill you with dread that you can really progress past the white guilt of it all.

radical self-acceptance & genuine self-critique are not opposites. they need each other. do not let obsessive-compulsive behaviors colonize your desire to grow as a person.

Need nonemergency Help

I'm a disabled single mother of 4 disabled kids (3 in home). I'm not able to work full-time because of disability and caregiver responsibilities and it makes life extra hard.

Bills are getting paid. Roof is secured over our heads. Food is on the table. There is no extra.

Ok we have the more basic household things flowing in fine. Like my budget keeps us in toilet paper and shampoo.

One of my friends on discord sponsored a haircut specifically which i got pretty immediately. I was not going to wait any longer than strictly necessary. My side burns had been touching my earlobes really just at all is an affront to my nature, but it had been multiple weeks. So no i didn't dawdle that one. I had nothing going on.

To be very clear about this: CPUs aren't magical devices that can operate forever. They generate heat. They wear out over time. This happens faster when they're operating near capacity. This is not just an attempt to inconvenience you; this is an attempt to damage your property.

For the "crime" of not wanting to be tracked/have ads pissed into your eyeballs 24/7.

Even if you've paid for the "privilege" of the latter.

so i was super pissed and concerned about this but i have just discovered that while this is true, it is apparently only true for google chrome users. i just tested this by having ten tabs open in firefox playing ten different youtube videos at the same time and my cpu usage spiked to 25% as the videos were loading and then dropped back down to 10% as they played.

if you ever needed another reason to switch to a different browser, this is it.
