Btw, in the Hell arc it seems he no longer carries Ashisogi Jizo. I really miss the iconic way he carried his zanpakuto. WHERE ARE YOU, AJ?!!

i'm far from an expert of japanese culture but i think it's definitely meant to be ironic, maybe even to communicate what a messed-up and demented (and perhaps even outright heretical) character mayuri is by having his zanpakutou and bankai be a corrupted and perverted version of such a benevolent deity. i would really love to know what kubo had in mind when designing mayuri's zanpakutou/bankai, and why he specifically picked jizo of all things - i do know that he initially intended for mayuri to have a much more conventional villain role, so maybe he just tried to come up with the most messed up thing he could to really underline mayuri's villainy

oh my god he would be the most toxic asshole ever, like he'd happily doxx anyone who pissed him off ("nemu, get me their home address") and straight up read their private information over the ingame voice chat. and no matter how many times he gets permanently banned, he just keeps coming back as if nothing happened

i feel like the music i like to listen to is a little too "soft" to fit mayuri 😂 the one song i can think about is marilyn manson's beautiful people, but that's probably more because mayuri's theme song is a marilyn manson song more than the song actually fitting him (and also years and years ago there was a gotei 13 AMV set to it that i really liked, so my brain just associates the song with bleach in general)

i think it's a very cool and interesting concept - and also creepy which i love - and i kind of wish we'd know more about it and the three fingers and their true origins, but also i realize that the mystery is part of what makes them interesting, and demystifying them too much might actually ruin them (like what in my opinion happened with the fingers in the DLC). i know people like to debate whether the frenzied flame is good or bad, but i personally don't think there's much nuance there: it's bad (though not necessarily bad as in evil, just bad as in harmful). it's tempting for people who have known nothing but suffering (god i wish kale's quest hadn't been cut), but it's still an undoubtedly bad thing for everyone and the entire world. also, shabriri can suck it

also also i REALLY like midra, he and his battle (his boss design, his MUSIC, the fact that he's one of the very few bosses in the DLC that aren't total unmitigated bullshit) are one of the very few things that i like about the DLC, and i think it's a real shame that in the end he's just some guy with no connection to anything or anyone and him turning into a lord of frenzied flame isn't connected to anything and doesn't give us any new information. it was such a good opportunity to give us something, but in the end it just feels like empty fanservice, just like so much of the DLC. i remember one of the very first trailers featuring him pretty prominently and everyone was speculating what his role in the story would be - was he maybe marika's father? - but in the end he's very literally Just Some Guy, unrelated to everything and anyone. i would really like to know if the devs initially had more planned for him, nanaya and their story, and just ended up cutting it down for whatever reason, or if this is really all they had planned

mayuri is my top favourite character, for my second favourite i have a hard time choosing between kenpachi and komamura

i've honestly watched very little of the bleach anime in general, i'm definitely mainly a manga reader. the only bount episodes i've seen are the ones with mayuri in them (to the surprise of no one) so i've seen very little of it, but what i did see i didn't like xD i did enjoy the part where mayuri kicks the old man off his huge fish-throne though. and mayuri spinning around in his chair when kyouraku tries to mess with his machines

for some reason his arrancar arc look is really difficult for me to draw! i don't know why that is, it's not like it's super complicated compared to his other looks or anything, but i always end up having to look up a ton of reference pictures when i draw it. also his headgear from his epilogue look gives me so much trouble, it is so hard for me to visualize it in different angles, especially since we only ever see it for a handful of panels. i really hope someone extracts his 3D model from the mirrors high game, that would be so helpful!
