Good evening (at least for me, good day for you I think )!!
You ever think about the fact that Charles and Raven never ONCE properly acknowledged each other in the original trilogy (that I remember) - which on a meta level is probably cause the movies hadn’t quite figured out that backstory yet cause it’s not really a thing in the comics - but in universe means that they probably, in the original timeline, barely (if EVER) interact after Cuba? Cause I’ve been thinking about that all day 😔
Also I’d like to think that Charles still cared a lot for Raven in a really weird complicated way and whenever he heard of her doing something dangerous or that could get her hurt he was probably still really worried about her but couldn’t actually say anything because they’re just SO estranged by then. I’d also like to think that Raven tries to check on him through Erik because even in that timeline Erik still interacts with Charles reasonably regularly
I think about it a lot actually!!!
As far as I remember, in the original movies, they didn’t interact hardly at all. Charles would reference her as “Mystique,” and usually in context of Erik.
Because of the timeline shift due to the events of DoFP, it’s likely that they didn’t interact beyond Cuba before said shift, like you said. Raven did try to nearly kill Charles via Cerebro in X-Men (2000), so if we’re going with the idea that the prequels timeline from FC to pre-timeline shift DoFP is cannon to the original movies, it would be difficult to justify what was basically attempted fratricide.
However, Erik (person who loves that bald man most in the world) has also tried to and nearly has killed Charles many a time. Because Raven was so close to Erik for so long, quite literally being his right hand woman, the only justification I could think for that was her being so wrapped in Erik’s mindset for “any price for the greater good of mutants is a price worth paying” that killing her brother was something she went with.
In truth, both Charles and Raven probably ask Erik how the other is. Charles is more direct, while Raven asks off-handedly “how his visit with the Professor was.” To the X-Men, Raven is Mystique. To Hank, the only other person who truly knew Raven, she’s still Raven, or “my sister.” No matter how old they get, Charles will always worry about her.
I don’t remember if Charles was still in the coma at this time, but when Mystique was thought to be dead in the first movie, had he been told, he probably would’ve panicked internally and went to search for her mind.
Anyway many thoughts, too much writing, so little time. And as always, THANK YOU FOR THE ASK I LOVE TALKING ABOUT THEM WITH YOU
