Zendaya and Rob for Interview Magazine by Nadia Lee Cohen
I know people have already talked about this film a lot but something so interesting in The Drama is what everyone's 'worst thing' is.
Mike used his girlfriend as a human shield against a wild dog on her birthday. That's pretty crazy and mean, but in terms of awfulness it's probably the least bad in the group
Rachel locked a mentally disabled kid in a closet for 12+ hours and didn't tell anyone. That's insane. She says at first she doesn't know what happened to him, but then says they found him and he was okay. I honestly think she might be lying and have no idea what happened to him. Maybe she's not, but even if he was found alive, he would be traumatized for life (or years at least). And she laughs about it. Yes, she's drunk, but she clearly doesn't think what she did was very wrong. When Charlie brings it up again and mentions the kid being mentally disabled, Rachel denies telling him this. Because that makes her look worse.
Charlie was 14 and cyberbullied a kid so hard he had to move. Or maybe he moved for unrelated reasons. Regardless, his is barely talked about. We don't know if this kid wronged him, or if this kid was just some random target. Everyone moves on rather quickly and we never come back to this.
Emma's thing would be the worst, shooting up a school, if she actually went through with it. But she didn't. Which yes, it's still very very bad that she planned it and nearly went through with it, but no one ended up getting hurt besides Emma (who became deaf in one ear.) She ended up throwing out the gun and becoming an activist. She tried to make amends when she didn't have to.
Emma lists one of her reasons was because she was bullied at school, which Charlie dismisses, but he himself was a bully. It made me think, would young Charlie have bullied her? Or Rachel? She's seen as being rude to Emma before the event happens, laughing at her for being 30 and experiencing butterflies for the first time. Not to mention the wedding speech which made me want to throw my drink at the screen in rage.
the drama 2026 really good movie for guilt and shame and rehabilitative justice enjoyers. imagine fumbling zendaya
something really cool about the drama also is that while we, as an audience, have access to emma's interiority, memories and anxieties, charlie does not. emma never has to articulate to us why she considered going through with her plan and why she ultimately chose not to. we can see exactly how she reacted to being confronted with the consequences of the kind of harm she wanted to inflict on others and the steps she took to prevent herself and others from enacting that harm. i don't think she would've been unable to explain it, but i find it crucial that we see it instead of hear it, because it dispells any indication that she is not genuine, and it impresses on us what her motivations were and what factors dissuaded her. charlie, however, does not have access to her memories and interiority the same way we do and would have to investigate and interpret her framing and narrative of that moment.
and, because charlie's portrayed as being functionally emotionally illiterate, the gaps emma leaves are filled with his own assumptions and bad faith, oversimplified interpretations of her actions. he can't, but also won't, do the interpretive work that emma cannot do for him.

(The Drama spoilers)
So, I saw the movie with a relative of mine, and we were in the car afterwards talking about the juxtaposition of Emma's thoughtcrime-level transgression (I know, asterisk; it's not what the post is about) with the very real and actively harmful transgressions of the others, and then my relative said that she didn't like the end of the movie because she didn't want Emma to forgive Charlie.
And it was one of those situations where you can kind of feel it might not be entirely About the movie, like maybe the person has been cheated on irl or been publicly embarrassed by a partner, so I didn't put forth much argument out loud except to say that I liked the ending, but just for you guys, while I'm here:
Grace is the point. Saying "Yes, you can start over. Yes, even now," was the point.
It might be unfair, in the human sense, that Emma is extending Charlie the grace he failed to extend to her, but in the story sense it is structurally essential.

Gotta tell you guys something wild in the Chinese fan sphere
So some fanartist drew a âsexyâ (read: booby) version of a (cartoon) character who is traditionally very non-sexualised. Fans of the character got mad about it because itâs kind of groundbreaking how that character is written and portrayed and this art totally ignores the entire point of the character. They demanded the art be deleted. In response to that other people said, well what the fanartist did may be distateful but they have every right to draw what theyâre into. The two sides fight for days and each starts a harassment campaign and even report their âopponentsââ accounts.
So far so typical. But things eventually come to a head and they decide that this will be settled by votes - not through a poll. Through donations to a childrenâs education charity via each sideâs portal. Whoever can get the highest amount of donation wins.
And that is how this charity received over 1 million in donations in three days lol. Oh btw the âfreedom of expressionâ side won by a landslide (960k to 40k)

under US law, it's illegal for anyone who's not a member of a recognised native tribe to own an eagle feather. the penalty is a $100,000 fine.
14 years ago when I had recently moved to Alaska, I went hiking with an Aleut friend, and she pointed to a feather lying on the ground and said "hey that's a bald eagle tail feather, you should grab it!" and I was like "uhh I'm very white and that's very illegal" and she went "they're fuckin everywhere up here man. I have 20." so she grabs it off the ground and hands it to me and says "there, now it's a ceremonial gift from an indigenous person."
and I'm like, okay, cool, I guess this is how we do things in Alaska. nice.
so I keep this bald eagle tail feather around for years. display it in my home among other cherished memorabilia from places I've lived and visited, etc.
on a whim, I have just now looked it up. there is no exemption to that law for a ceremonial gift from an indigenous person. the last 7 years I lived in the US, I was technically a bald eagle poacher.
probably a good thing I don't intend to move back there anytime soon. I wonder what the statute of limitations is on bird crimes.
@freedomisscaryshit I'm fucking dying I think you forgot the word "feathers" in your tags?? or do you just wish you could grab whole ass eagles that land in your yard??
As an Indigenous person, it continues to astound me that there are such strict laws (written by White people) in our name, laws against...picking up things just found on the ground. Like, stop pretending this is "for" us. We don't want this.
so, for clarity, that's not what this is. the law against possessing feathers is an anti-poaching measure, derived from a North American treaty protecting certain migratory bird species from hunting. that treaty has an exemption for indigenous people to allow tribes that use eagle feathers in ceremonial or religious practices to continue doing so.
i used to collect feathers (illegally) as a teenager and the thing is that it's incredibly important for feathers from wild birds to be illegal to possess because it ensures that they never become fashionable to wear. the reason we passed the migratory bird act was because the american and european fashion industry was driving species to extinction in a timespan of years. not just decades. the ecological devastation of exporting birds for hats was absolutely insane and people were watching wetlands and forests and meadows just empty out in realtime. look at the wikipedia article for the plume trade.
the law against 'picking feathers up off the ground' means that you can't go shoot an eagle then sell the feathers on etsy by saying you 'just found them'. you can't own them no matter where they came from, which makes sure that they're not going to come from any birds killed and then secretly disposed of.
these laws, as harsh and ridiculous as they seem, saved flamingos, spoonbills, egrets, and all kinds of hawks and eagles from extinction. the minute these laws weaken and people can make money off killing them again, they're fucked.
this is one of those "no actually this regulation exists for a reason" laws much like work place safety and building fire codes (that Republicans keep trying to roll back) and is written in blood just like them as well. it's just not human blood this time, and the fact that people actually cared enough about long term future over short term profit to get it put in place is nothing short of astonishing. That it didn't get put in place in time to save several species is heart breaking.
today i found out that victor hugo has had more sex than possibly almost any other human that has lived on this planet.Â
he had so much sex his biographers straight up gave up trying to document all of his sexual partners. he was reported to fuck up to 3-9 times a day. He had a secret sex diary written in code. He had âofficialâ and âunofficialâ mistresses. One estimate was that he had ~200 sexual partners in two years.Â
Icon.Â
donât forget that on the day of his funeral all the brothels in Paris were closed because every single prostitute in the whole goddamn city was busy mourning him
Hey quick question what the fuck
the man reported on his hookups in his diary using latin code words and 2 million people attended his funeral, if that isnt balling idk what is
victor hugo has been dead for 133 slutty, slutty years
RATING: đ¨ MOSTLY RELIABLE đ¨
Many articles make similar claims to those above. However, much of this information circulates without a clear source, and I have struggled to find reputable/high level sources for some of this information. Therefore, keep in mind that some of this may be exaggerated or potentially unreliable.
Obviously, I cannot account for the sexual of history of every human who has ever lived, but evidence does suggest that Victor Hugo had a⌠lively sex life.
From Medium: âSex was so involved in Hugoâs daily life that one biographer wrote the following while describing a typical day in Hugoâs life:
âIt was not unusual for him to make love to a young prostitute in the morning, an actress before lunch, a courtesan as an aperitif, and then join the also Âindefatigable Juliette for a night of sex.â
[âŚ] Hugo claimed that on the wedding night, he and his wife had sex nine times.â
His encoded sex diary is referenced on Wikipedia, but when I found an English translation of the source, I couldnât find where in it they were sourcing.
From Wikipedia: 'He systematically reported his casual affairs using his own code, as Samuel Pepys did, to make sure they would remain secret.â
The source is listed as: 'Hugo, Victor, Choses vues 1870â1885, p. 529, ISBNÂ 2070361411, pp. 371, 521 (n. 1).â
Iâve found Choses Vues here in the original French and here translated into English. If anyone can find anything in here about the encoded sex diary, please let me know!
His 'official mistressâ is likely in reference to Juliette Drouet.
From EBSCO: 'Since 1833, Hugo had maintained a liaison with a beautiful female actor, Juliette Drouet, who for twelve years followed a cloistered existence relieved only by six-week summer holidays with her lover.â
His 'unofficial mistressâ is likely in reference to LĂŠonie dâAunet Biard.
From The Common Reader: 'Overlapping was a seven-year affair with travel writer and Arctic explorer LĂŠonie dâAunet Biard, whose husband finally brought a police officer to the Paris hotel and caught them in flagrante.â
I have found articles that circulate the '200â claim, but none that give a source for the information.
From Medium: 'Not only that but he bedded 200 women in this hotel in just two years.â
The claim that brothels were closed on the day of his funeral is again circulated frequently without claim. The only sourced part of the claim I can find is a second hand report that sex workers had 'draped their gentials in black crepeâ.
From The Guardian: â[âŚ] when Hugo died the brothels of Paris closed down for a day of mourning, allowing all the cityâs sex workers to pay their last respects to a loyal client. Literary critic Edmond de Goncourt claimed a police officer told him that sex workers even draped their genitals in black crepe as a mark of respect.â
And an estimated 2 million people attended his funeral procession.
From Funeral Conflicts in Nineteenth-Century France: 'Two million people came to see Hugoâs body lying in state at the Arc de Triompheâ
Heâs now been dead for 141 years, although 133 was correct at the time of posting. How slutty those years are⌠I couldnât say.
