Every so often I check back in on the Warrior Cats fandom out of curiosity, as someone who fell off around Bramblestar's Storm, and every single time, whatever's going on in the current books is something so batshit that I'm almost tempted to pick up the books again... almost.

I personally feel like the AG181 Drew Absol Crashout would have made a lot more sense in the Hoenn Grand Festival, after he overheard May's "Oh, Drew and I aren't friends :)" line to Harley, tbh. I feel like I wouldn't mind it nearly as much there, because at least then I'd be able to trace his frustrations with May back to something concrete that would have feasibly upset him in the first place?

#sorry. I'm back on my ag181 bullshit again (and I'm sorry if this is an unpopular opinion that everyone wants me to shut up about) lol #but. man. I feel like there were other ways to do it. 😭#and I always want to make it clear that my annoyance with 181 isn't that I can't handle my fave being an asshole lmao.#if I couldn't handle that then I would like a different character. 💀#but I just think we could have done this all a bit better in canon. or in eng dub at *least*.#and half of me thinks the scene's flat-out entirely ooc given the meticulous care and support with which he treats his pokemon #and that completely misaligns with how he talks to Absol in that scene #but the other half of me does see where it's an escalation of what we saw in the Hoenn GF #where he skipped the afterparty to immediately train more. so I can KIIIIIIIND of see him pushing absol in training there I *guess*?#he does push himself and his pokemon to do their absolute best. we did already know that #so I am kind of torn on that... but I still think him treating Absol like *that* was tonally dissonant for his character #in a 'weird u-turn writing' way rather than a 'specific character flaw that intends to add to his arc' kind of way.#and again. that still does not help explain the May of it all.#I guess you can say she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time but that feels like an unsatisfyingly shallow explanation for-#-what's framed as a big moment in their relationship arc tbh.#and I think they wanted us to think he felt threatened by their rivalry or whatever but I also call total BS on that.#but. shrug. it's the pokemon anime. you get what you sign up for and you aren't signing up for world-class writing lol.#and also- another caveat that kind of goes against myself here-#I actually usually think it's not correct to call a character's actions in canon 'ooc' since. well. it's canon.#by definition it is in character because the character does it lol #BUT I *will* confidently say that it feels harsh and incongruous with the rest of his appearances at least #even if I guess it is ''in character'' in a technical sense since I can't just tell the writers that they wrote their own guy wrong 😭#even if I kind of feel like they did LOL
