Follow the money behind America's data center boom. Track 2,300+ projects, PAC spending, and the politicians who sign off on it.
Reasons for hope: Lots of amazing people did a ton of work to make this fantastic, fully interactive resource available - because no matter how bleak things seem, there are millions, and millions of people doing everything they can to protect both the world and their own communities.
You can use this to view and subscribe to updates, project statuses, and for at least some of them even whole dossiers. This is an amazing resource, I highly recommend checking it out
Yes to all of this, but I'm also pro-Laura who just does not want kids and wants to have sex
this is insaaaane, our brains are so fucking weird

In case anyone finds it helpful because mobility aids are horrifically expensive and inaccessible…
And for those people who have access to mobility devices but might benefit from a second chair they can abuse without risking expensive damage…
Erik Kondo has made a website, Open Source Innovations, that details plans for DIY wheelchairs. These wheelchairs can be made from common materials like wood, plastic, and pvc. They are lightweight and can be custom fit to the user allowing from the same degree of movement you would get from a custom chair. And they are durable and easily repairable. (he has been stress testing his latest design by dropping it down stairs, dropping it out of a car, launching it across a driveway, and throwing it off a deck). Its 12lbs and I think he said its was in the $200 ish range for parts.
He also is working on cheap, open source, accessible designs for beach chairs, off road chairs, motorized attachments (think smart drive), and so on. Plus he skateboards in his wheelchair. Cool dude, helpful info, pass it on.
It's incredibly sad people have to resort to this, but it's a damn good resource. Use it. Spread awareness. Maybe one day people with physical disabilities won't need DIYs like this. But until then, reblog and share.
This is Accessibility!
That's so amazing! It is unfortunate that so many people will need this, but very very cool that it exists
That other link seems to be broken.
Thank you so much for putting the working one!
I will add it to my original reblog as well.

poor things, well we should definitely make this easier on them by never repeatedly mentioning their name and deeds on the "reblog things forever" website
“Teachers are often unaware of the gender distribution of talk in their classrooms. They usually consider that they give equal amounts of attention to girls and boys, and it is only when they make a tape recording that they realize that boys are dominating the interactions. Dale Spender, an Australian feminist who has been a strong advocate of female rights in this area, noted that teachers who tried to restore the balance by deliberately ‘favouring’ the girls were astounded to find that despite their efforts they continued to devote more time to the boys in their classrooms. Another study reported that a male science teacher who managed to create an atmosphere in which girls and boys contributed more equally to discussion felt that he was devoting 90 per cent of his attention to the girls. And so did his male pupils. They complained vociferously that the girls were getting too much talking time. In other public contexts, too, such as seminars and debates, when women and men are deliberately given an equal amount of the highly valued talking time, there is often a perception that they are getting more than their fair share. Dale Spender explains this as follows: “The talkativeness of women has been gauged in comparison not with men but with silence. Women have not been judged on the grounds of whether they talk more than men, but of whether they talk more than silent women.” In other words, if women talk at all, this may be perceived as ‘too much’ by men who expect them to provide a silent, decorative background in many social contexts.”

Something by I love about Black Menswear is how they’re not afraid of color and personality. It’s not just the same boring black or blue suit jacket every time. It’s also just very dapper.
YESSS i especially love the florals...

Oh thanks but what the fuck does any of that mean
I’ve seen quite a few of these in my time, but this one takes the cake.
This is fucking killing me
Golp: a roundel purpure.
Repeat this to yourself until it begins to have meaning
Okay then since some of you need to be reminded of this:
Roundels are circles in heraldry. They are named according to their color, which also has its own lingo. Let’s meet them!
Bezant: roundel or (gold) 🟡
Plate: roundel argent (silver) ⚪️
Torteau: roundel gules (red) 🔴
Pomme: roundel vert (green) 🟢
Hurt: roundel azure (blue) 🔵
Golp: roundel purpure (purple) 🟣
Pellet: roundel sable (black) ⚫️
If your field is strewn with roundels, you can describe it appropriately as being bezanty, hurty, golpy, and so on.
Queer spaces exist to provide safety, community, and acceptance for people of diverse sexual orientations and identities. Their purpose should be to create an environment where people are respected regardless of who they love or how they identify - NOT to require adherence to a particular political ideology. When political conformity becomes an expectation for belonging, these communities exclude the people they were created to support.
One common claim is that being queer is inherently a left-wing political identity. This assertion is not accurate. Queer people hold a wide range of political, religious, economic, and philosophical beliefs, just as any other demographic does. Sexual orientation and gender identity do not determine a person's views on taxation, foreign policy, religion, environmental issues, or the role of government. Treating queerness as synonymous with one political ideology erases this diversity and sends the message that those with differing opinions are somehow "less queer" or unwelcome.
Enforcing political orthodoxy within queer communities creates an unhealthy social environment. When disagreement is met with ridicule, exclusion, or harassment, people learn that expressing independent thought comes at the cost of belonging. This kind of culture discourages open discussion and pressures individuals to conform out of fear rather than conviction. Communities thrive when members can debate ideas respectfully instead of policing one another's beliefs.
Freedom of belief is an important principle in any diverse society. People should be free to disagree on political questions while still treating one another with dignity and respect. Demanding ideological conformity undermines that principle and can leave politically diverse queer individuals feeling isolated. In some cases, they may withdraw from community spaces altogether because they fear hostility or bullying from people who should be allies. I have seen this happen to countless people.
Ultimately, queer communities are strongest when they unite around shared humanity rather than partisan identity. Respecting differences in political opinion does not require abandoning core values such as mutual respect, opposition to harassment, and equal treatment. Instead, it recognizes that people can disagree about politics while still deserving safety, acceptance, and community. If queer spaces aspire to be genuinely inclusive, they should welcome the full diversity of queer people - INCLUDING diversity of thought.

My latest cartoon for New Scientist
To be clear, this isn't a bit. This is what they actually did. "Its too late" is the new "Climate change isn't real"... And its still a lie!
Every serious climate scientist agrees that there is no such as thing as too late, just as there is no such thing as too early. We should have done a lot more than we have to fight climate change, and the world will suffer for our inaction, but there is no point of no return. We can always work to reduce the amount of suffering that occurs, and eventually turn things around to the point where our planet is healing once again. Do not believe anyone who says it's "too late".
In the 2000s, phones had quirks and class....
In the ye olde days, when technology allowed phones to become small but there was no general concensus on what a phone should/ought to look like, it was like the wild west of phone design. The crazier it was, the higher the prestige. Phones back then did two things and they did them with flamboyance.
And then Steve Jobs ruined everything.
