"can you explain this large gap in your resume?"
yeah I tried to move an image in Word
Happy Threshold Day Eve!
Ok, I might need this one explained.
Wait, is this the Janeway Paris lizard sex episode???
Why tomorrow?
Threshold first aired on January 29 1996.
Since the episode's 20th anniversary in 2016, I have celebrated the episode on this date. Why is ultimately up to every reveler to answer for themselves. But my original intention was to celebrate joy, positivity and the goofy, funny parts of Star Trek.
We meme. We kid. We jest. We create art. We talk about warp 10 lizard sex.
Join us. It is time.
Happy 30th anniversary!
The thing about anti-voting arguments that operate on the grounds of efficacy ("voting is useless, do x instead") is that... even if voting wasn't particularly useful, it's still something you do no more than once a year in most jurisdictions. You can't take one day out of your busy 'doing x' schedule? You were planning to use that one specific day to firebomb a walmart/bring about socialist revolution/protest real good? That one day is crucial to your plans? You can't, like, reschedule?
A couple of weeks ago I was in a pharmacy getting my Covid/flu shot, and there was this old lady there trying to buy a whole bunch of vitamin B12 supplements, because she didn't want to get sick this winter. 'The flu shot never works", she was saying, "but they said these would work if I take one every day". And this extremely patient woman waiting in line beside her, as she addressed this talking point to nobody in particular, pointed out the obvious: there's absolutely nothing preventing you from doing both of those things. They're not in competition. You want to take a B12 supplement every day? Go nuts. But you can get a vaccine right now, at this pharmacy, for free, and even if you think it does nothing, you haven't claimed it would do any harm, right? The worst it could do is not work. And if it doesn't, the only cost is that it took a little time out of one day. Nobody is asking you to dedicate the rest of the winter to getting daily flu shots.
You just can't trade off the utility of a one-time thing and a continuous thing directly like that. Anyone who has ever managed a schedule knows that. And if you haven't managed a schedule, I'm not sure how confident I should be in your ability to bring about socialist revolution.
Voting is the literal least you can do.
If it did nothing then would be authoritarians wouldn't spend so much time trying to convince you not to do it
50-point swing in six years!
Truth is, we don't need to raise taxes, we can actually lower them on the entire working class of America.
We just need to stop financing foreign wars on borrowed money, and end the mega-wealthy and corporate tax evasion.
Universal Healthcare is coming!
I suspect Medicare for all actually will raise taxes, the increase will just be miniscule relative to the savings from not having to pay health insurance premiums

So Pokemon Go came out and I legit walked around for three hours in the dark, met like five of my neighbors also looking for Pokemon, and saw a grown ass man trudge into a pond. What a time to be alive.
nintendo’s plan to make everyone get out the house is working spectacularly if a bit odd.
“Working spectacularly, if a bit odd” is Nintendo’s entire goddamn business model.
Why? Why would you do this to me? What do you mean 2010s nostalgia? Excuse me? Hello? @2010s-nostalgia
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Look buddy, i’m just trying to make it to Friday.
reblog if its friday and you made it
really fucking boils my cabbages when the right is completely correct that something is a problem in society they're just hyperbolically stupid about why.
eg falling birth rates are not a problem because something something the future of the white race and they're a sign that modern women aren't sufficiently interested in staying home and making babies. they are however a problem because a society with no economic safety net is not prepared to manage a demographic shift toward having more retired people than working people and they're a sign that millions of adults in 2026 do not feel financially stable enough to add to their families
people in the notes are saying "just allow more immigration" and like okay, I literally believe we should all have completely open borders (well actually I believe countries should not exist), so I'm on board there to an extent, but I don't think outsourcing reproduction to poorer parts of the world is a good long-term solution. we should probably actually do something about how so many "middle class" people are living on 15 knife edges simultaneously and can't imagine being responsible for children.
There is a new analysis of what salary it takes to live a "comfortable" life in America. The number is $106k for an individual, almost double the median wage($65k).
I'm not saying the analysis is flawless but as a person who makes around that number, yeah, to pay all my bills, and save for retirement, and have some money left over for doing hobbies? I need most of that in a moderately priced metro.
People can't afford to support themselves, much less an extremely loud potato that sucks up their time.
If you think about it, all these thinkpieces about how Millenials are “killing” various industries reveal a pretty colossal sense of entitlement.
Under normal circumstances, if a given industry finds itself unable to sell products to a given market demographic, we’d say it’s that industry’s fault for failing to offer products that that demographic is interested in buying.
It only makes sense to blame the target demographic itself is if we’re assuming that the established industries have some intrinsic right to that demographic’s disposable income that’s being denied - which is clearly nonsense.
And I thought Millennials were supposed to be the entitled ones?
Thank you for putting into words one of the factors that has rubbed me the wrong way about the litany of articles and quotes about how Millennials are Ruining Everything ™.
Like, I have worked very hard to put out real, genuine quality stuff. The best that I can make while offering it at a reasonable price, because a business transaction should be fair; you get a good product, the business makes some profit, everyone walks away happy. I am not even that old, and I have already seen a significant decline in the quality, craftsmanship, materials and labor sources in almost all of my purchases compares to the items that my family bought when I was growing up- and I’m talking the expensive stuff, too! We have bought two Dysons from Costco in the last two years (returned both, thank god for Costco’s return policy!) and neither one functioned as well as Megan’s old parent’s Dyson that was made in the 80′s. My grandmother has an old metal sewing machine that has been kicking longer than I have but I’ve been through about four sewing machines in my lifetime, each one managed to last twoish years. And these are the things off the top of my head, and it goes all the way down. Like how they started manufacturing secretly-smaller containers for things with the bubble on the bottom so you don’t notice there’s less product inside, or how Charmin made their rolls ‘shorter’ than they used to be but they are still technically the same number of ‘sheets’- I mean, I know I sound a little crazy, but if you’re Charmin and you reduce the amount of paper material per-roll by even a single penny, even a fraction of a penny, it would add up to much bigger profits; and a bigger expense passed on to the consumer, who won’t notice that the rolls are an inch shorter (except me because I’m weird that way)
I see companies constantly finding ways to cut corners, pay employees less, and put out crappier merchandise, and then go “Why won’t anyone buy this stuff?!” and I just don’t get why they’re confused.
I’m resurrecting an ancient post, because nothing here has changed in the intervening time. The recent post about “tech hoarding” because people aren’t buying new phones on a regular schedule reminded me.
The companies definitely now feel entitled to profit and business, rather than earning it.
more heads of state should vanish mysteriously into the ocean i miss that
I know he wasn't technically the Head of State but is this about Harold Holt, the Australian Prime Minister who disappeared after going for a swim in the Ocean and then had a Swimming Pool named after him?
Are there other Heads of State who vanished under mysterious circumstances in the ocean?

hold up australia is a MONARCHY??? in 2026???????
Spoiler, so is the rest of the Commonwealth.

Taxes are coming up again and I'm probably going to owe some, and I keep seeing like "You should pay online if you file online" but how does one pay online if they owe, say, more than their credit limit or don't even have credit?
I wonder if they take debit.
Personally, I'll be most likely sending a check.
The IRS will take credit(though they charge a fee, which is essentially passing the credit card fee on to you), PayPal, debit, echeck, or ACH. I would bet they will take CashApp, Venmo, and Zelle soon. There are even partner companies that will take cash and transfer it to the IRS. The IRS wants your money and they will take it any way they can get it.
News: -talking about Maduro-
Tree guy: lets hear it for the 'anti-war' president! (Sarcasm)
Me: -sigh- we do not have a good track record with having an exit plan for this kind of thing.
Tree guy: yeah but this is the first time that a republican is the one without an exit plan. (Not sarcastic)
Me: -stares into empty space-
Tree guy: oh right it was Biden last time that didnt have an exit plan.
Me: -holding it all in-
Tree guy: because Obama started it last time.
Me: -sighs-
Tree guy: what?
Me: -leaves-
Listen I dont pretend to be an expert on American war history but...
I was there, Gandalf.
He probably thinks im mad because he was talking shit about Obama, but really I was just trying to figure out what the fuck he was talking about.
"But democrats start plenty of wars and suck at international policy."
Not disagreeing with you, Deb, but please believe me when I say that Democrats did not start the War on Terror.
Nor the War on Drugs(which arguably lead to Maduro gaining power and this moment).
The IRS needs to integrate polyhedral dice into the tax return process somehow. Filling out tax forms is basically like filling out a character sheet for a TTRPG otherwise.
spent MONTHS looking for this stupid tumblr post bcuz i constantly want to reference it and it wouldn't come up no matter what i searched despite it being (what i thought) was a popular well-known tumblr post only to find that the original blog turned off reblogs and deactivated and that it only got 12k notes total. but im posting it anyway to preserve its legacy

Can we all talk about the Pathfinder Starknife
I love its lore and history and how it's meant to both be a melee and ranged throwing weapon
But dear lord does it seem impractical
Like genuinely
I need someone like Sellsword Arts to explain just how impractical this thing is cuz I'm just guessing
But like
With where the handle is
How TF is this thing supposed to be used in melee!?
Like TBF
Pathfinder is a Comic Book Setting (in some cases literally) and Scythes and Whips are valid weapons when historically they prolly wouldn't have been (I'm aware of the Battle Scythe, but that is different), so it's fine in Pathfinder, I just wanna see it in not Pathfinder
Also I'm pretty sure the Gnome Flickmace is a Meteor Hammer with a handle lol
If I had to guess the existence of the star knife in pathfinder is the result of someone being a little *too* into Yuffie from FFVII.
pokemon blood and pokemon bone where you osmosis jones your way through some creature to discover microscopic pokemon
I can get behind that
(Top to bottom: tardigrades, staphylococcus aureus, and mash up of various fungi)
this but they’re the sole source of disease in the Pokemon universe
*doctor places stethoscope on my chest* “Good news and bad news: here’s the good news, I can hear it chanting it’s own name, so diagnosis is easy. The bad news is… you’ve got tuberculosa.”
Pokerus, I choose you!
