Any transfems on here who are too disabled to work know if it's even possible to get gender-affirming surgery, specifically FFS, while receiving or applying for SSI/SSDI? It seems to me like it's pretty much just impossible without being denied and thrown out onto the street. I'm not receiving it yet but I'm in subsidized housing where I'm supposed to pay 30% of all income I receive, including gifts via venmo, cashapp, PayPal, etc. (the language used in the lease is intentionally very broad and general) and if I were to start a GoFundMe or any other similar thing and even if I were to get the need met, I'm pretty sure it would get me kicked out since that would count as a fucking lot of income. I currently crowdfund only just barely enough to eat (rice, eggs, dry beans, that sort of thing) most of the time.
As a side note, I was able to get medicaid to cover laser for my face back in 2024, before my disability became so severe that I'm now frequently unable to even leave my apartment for appointments, but apparently Medicaid won't cover it for my body since "even cis women have body hair" which I mean yeah but I'm also hairy as fuck and it's extremely dysphoric for me.
