The cannon reason why Link doesnāt speak
any npc: link why are you so quiet link: [dissociating] what
Ookay so just, for the reference, the French text* has a very interesting different nuance here.
*(which, for the record, is absolutely amazing, Iāve no idea how close a translation it might be but it throws in puns and quirks and beautiful turns of phrases and is generally a joy to read, a lot of work and love has clearly been put into it.)
āJāai fini par lui demander pourquoi il Ć©tait toujours tellement silencieux, et jāai bien vu que la rĆ©ponse lui coĆ»tait.ā
āI finally asked him why heās always so quiet, and it was obvious that answering took a great effort from him.ā (~almostĀ āit pained him to answerā)
āLe royaume a toujours beaucoup attendu de lui, et cāest la crainte de dĆ©cevoir qui lāa finalement enfermĆ© dans le mutisme.ā
āThe kingdom has always expected a lot from him, and it itās the fear of disappointing that ended up locking him into mutism.ā
āQuelle surprise ! Moi qui pensais quāavec son talent naturel, il nāavait jamais dĆ» connaĆ®tre lāangoisse de lāĆ©checā¦ā
āWhat a surprise! Here I thought that with his natural skill, he must have never known the fear/anxiety of failureā¦āĀ
please note FEAR and DISAPPOINTING and LOCKING HIM and MUTISM and FAILURE
It sounds a lot less like it was a conscious decision for Link, and much more like⦠selective mutism caused by stress and anxiety.
Which is why Zelda goes on to basically go ā!! SAME DISORDER!!ā ā itās not just the fact of being under a lot of expectations that means youāve gotta appear strong / focus on your task: this wording sounds more like itās literally Linkās coping mechanism in response to the stress and pressure.
āEn rĆ©alitĆ©, nous avons tous nos soucis. JāĆ©tais tellement centrĆ©e sur les miens que je ne voyais rien autour de moi.ā
āIn truth/It turns out we all have our own issues. I was so focused on mine that I didnāt see anything around me.ā
Idk if/how this is worded in the English version, but this sounds very much like she feels Link is also miserable (perhaps as much as her).
Basically, the French version goes beyond āLink is constantly dissociatingā to āanxious and depressed children find each other and proceed to realize itās ok to feel like they do and theyāre not aloneā.

Vigil for #KaliefBrowder, a young man who took his own life after years of reliving the trauma of spending three years in an adult prison beginning at the age of 16, for the crime of stealing a backpack in which he never was convicted. His wrongful imprisonment is another example of the flawed justice system that has stolen the lives of so many innocent people.Ā
Jesusā¦
wait, do i understand this right? he was put in prison for 3 years just for maybe having stolen a stupid fucking backpack?????
A backpackā¦
the best experience working in customer service that i ever had was when i worked at building 19 and they were going out of business. they got to a point where all sales were final and this rude asshole came in throwing a fit bc she couldnāt return some 25$ thing, and i was just in a state of total donāt-give-a-fuck and so was the store manager so iām talking complete immunity to do and say whatever i wanted. so i told this lady iād be more willing to help her if sheād drop the attitude and quit being so rude to me and she looked so -shocked-. then she started ranting about losing out on 25$ and i was like āiām sorry youāre out 25 dollars but next week iāll be out of a job, so i donāt actually care,ā and the look on her face allowed me to ascend to a higher plane of existence. and that was my favorite day of work ever.
the dream.
At least something they canāt steal

Is and continues to be my favorite dance video. Dudeās so unexpectedly fluid.
> High score! What happened? Did i break it?
> You donāt see too many YouTube videos from 2005..
Weird to think that was almost a 10 years ago.
Children born the day of this video will graduate middle school this year.Ā
I love this video so much for so many reasonsā The last time I saw it on Youtube I glanced down into the comments and saw many people talking about how they used to be able to dance like this, but now worked desk jobs and had had to let their skills rust to nothing, wondering what ever happened to this kid. So I did a little hunting and found THIS, from 2014!
Almost ten years later and he still gets a freakinā A rank.

EVERY TIME SOMEONE BRINGS UP THE LIBRARY OF ALEXANDRIA I GET SO ANGRY.
Because it got burned. All of that knowledge, lost forever.
The library was destroyed over 1000ās of years ago. The library consisted of thousands of scrolls and books about mathematics, engineering, physiology, geography, blueprints, medicine, plays, & important scriptures. Thinkers from all over the Mediterranean used to come to Alexandria to study. Most of the major work of civilization up until that point was lost. If the library still survived till this day, society may have been more advanced and we would sure know more about the ancient world.
That graphic grinds my gears every time I see it
romans.
Julius Caesar to be preciseĀ
Remember this when youāre conquering. Keep the books.
THIS HURTS MY HEART SO MUCH EVERY TIME ITS BROUGHT UP
Julius Caesar needs to be stabbed for this
I know we should totally stab Caesar
Does March 15th sound good for everyone??
hey everyone, guess what day it is
Jesus fucking Christ, no, the burning of the library of Alexandria did not in any way slow down human progress. It wasnāt the only library to have existed in the world at the time.
āAlexandria was hardly the only library in the world, and the libraries at Pergamum and later Rome herself rivaled Alexandria in scale. Antony replaced the losses of the fire during the Alexandrine War with copies made from the library at Pergamum, and libraries in gymnasia or simply founded for citizens abound during that period in the Greek world, theyāre in like literally every city of any size. If anything at all was lost it was almost certainly mainly critical commentaries on various authors, as well as catalogs of their worksāboth the Alexandrian library and the Pergamene one were famous for producing such commentaries. Pretty much everything else of value would have existed elsewhere. Itās possible that a few (at that time probably little-known) philosophical texts might have been lost, but even such texts are likely to have had other copies elsewhere.ā Hereās an extensive and well sourced post debunking the utter bullshit myth that the burning of the Library somehow shot human progress back thousands of years until the 16th century dragged Europe out of theĀ āDark Agesā.Ā
Which is also a term very few historians use or take seriously anymore because it is, again, based off of inaccurate misconceptions about Medieval history, AS WELL as being an EXTREMELY Eurocentric viewpoint that ignores scientific and scholarly work done in other areas of the world like China and the Middle East.
During the so called āEuropean Dark Agesā, architecture achieved complexities the Romans could only dream of, the first universities were opened, scholarship was kept alive, metalurgy advanced rapidly.Ā
There wasnāt ONE renaissance, there were THREE. The one we think of had itās roots as far back as the 14th century. They didnāt come out of nowhere, the advancements were built off of work of hundreds of years of work by educated folk from across Euroasia and they fed into one another.
In fact, hereās a handy list of Medieval European scientists, from the 5th to 14th century.
That fucking graph up there is one of the most offensivley bad pseudo-historical memes. Itās so infamous, /r/BadHistory simply calls it Ā āThe Chartā.
Let this fucking bullshit die already.
Yes, I was about to rant on this until I got to the end.
I never knew this but rad!
