Dennis was probably the most surprised when he presented as an Alpha, he didnt fit into that category, he wasnt decisive, or liked taking charge. No, Dennis was quiet, soft, nurturing, all the trademarks of an Omega which is why he never had any luck with dating. As soon as the Omega or even Beta got to know him past the Alpha title, they were disappointed.
Dennis gave up on dating, on every being in a relationship.
Life wasnt all bad, he was accepted and loved by his friends and coworkers who never let his designation change how they sae him. Even living with Santos who was her Alpha status, he was accepted. The acceptance was probably due to their boss, who was an amazing Omega, strong, commanding, in charge, Dennis respected the hell out of Robby.
Imagine his surprise when Robby not only took a shine to Dennis but practically took him under his wing. Ever since Dennis found and comforted Robby in Pedes on his first day, they had become a team. The older man called on Dennis to work on patients with him, guided him around and even gave him his fleece when it was cold.
Some joked he was Robbyās favourite, others said he was making a mini Robby at first. To ensure Robby wasnt confused and got angry at Dennis, he did tell Robby he was an Alpha just in case he had thought otherwise and was being so nice in solidarity. Instead, Robby looked confused and told Dennis that of course he knew that, he even rolled his eyes and gave Dennis the chocolate bar he had juat gotten from the vending machine before leaving.
Robby continued treating him the same way, nothing changed. Robby would find a chair for Dennis at the hub next to him, he would give Dennis money to go and get them food, he even got Dennis a new backpack when his broke with some of Robby's old clothes. How Robby knew Dennis couldnt afford new clothes that he desperately needed he will never know.
After their shift one evening, the Alpha sat on the bench in the park with his coworkers and boss who had pulled him down to the space next to him that he had apparently saved for Dennis. The mood was light and everyone seemed calmer, more relaxed, the beers were flowing and Dennis being a light weight swore he felt someone playing with the ends of his hair, even if he knew it was his imagination, he was sandwiched between Robby and Dana, neither were the type to play with his hair.
"Whitaker, saw that male Omega flirting with you earlier..."
Jesse talking about the patient he had helped Dennis with earlier had everyone laughing, except Robby, who Dennis thought looked angry, right, it was unprofessional even if Dennis wasnt the one flirting. Which is why when Robby spoke up, Dennis wasnt surprised.
"Leave him alone, he didnt want to be flirted with. Its not his fault."
That made everyone laugh harder and Dennis to blush, the favouritism he got from his boss was hard to ignore when it was so obvious. Instead Dennis tried to place them so that the topic would change.
"Its not like it mattered, I wouldnt have done anything. In any way, no Omega really sticks around once they realise im not a normal Alpha."
Some rolled their eyes at Dennis whereas some others looked at Dennis like he was child saying something cute. Looking towards Robby, lost at the reaction, he was surprised to see his boss blushing and smiling at him. Now he was even more confused.
"Only got eyes for your Omega right Whitaker? "
What? He didnt have an Omega before he could clarify his own roommate jumped in, adding to his confusion.
"Ew, I dont want to witness anymore flirting between you and boss man, I see enough of it on shift."
What? He was flirting with Robby? Wait, they thought he was flirting with Robby and that he was claiming Robby as his Omega? Shit. This is what he was worried about, being happy, getting complacent and then loosing it all. Quickly turning to Robby to apologise and hopefully salvage their mentorship, he was shocked into silence instead.
"Hey, leave my alpha alone or i'll deny any vacation time you put in, you know he gets shy."
What? Robby turned more towards Dennis, his voice softer as though he was speaking just to him, even if everyone could hear him.
"Ignore them Den, they're just jealous I found the one of kind Alpha I wanted. You know im not going anywhere."
A hand squeezed his shoulder in comfort but all Dennis could think was, damn, he was dating his boss.
