I went out on a really enjoyable run this evening. It was in a relatively populated area as I donβt like running too much in the dark in a city. For some reason i felt safer at home running in a village. Anyway i am side tracking now, I had an enlightening experience whilst on my run. I ran past a group of teenagers twice and they shouted abuse my way both times. Now i am used to comments, Iβd like to think i have a relatively thick skin so i just carried on running and forgot about it but it always effects you a little bit. It got me thinking though about the amount of people who would have started running or exercising outdoors and given up due to someone shouting something or passing a comment. This must be really hard especially if you are disabled or need to alter your lifestyle and want to run. Imagine how many people are out there sat at home too scared to go outside because they are scared of comments like; oi look at fatty running, or laughing as you pass taking the mickey out of your running style / technique or what you are wearing. It is so hard to keep positive and keep going when things like this happen. I just put my head down, keep listening to my music or book and keep running on I just think of how far I have come and how I will feel once I have completed my half marathon this year. I also kind of feel sorry for the ones making the comments, why do they feel like they have to make them? Whats going on in their life and in their head for them to feel that it is necessary to make a comment. I doubt they realise you are running through or passed your pain #running #healthandfitness #halfmarathontraining #hms #eds3 #painfreedreaming #health #fitness #strength #hypermobility #invisiblezebra #invisibledisability #zebrastrong #zebby https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs6YVSen2Ag/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=13dhp6cnsjxt5
HYPERMOBILITY Exhibits in Morecambe, England Fine Art for a Rare Disorder MANDEM is raising international awareness for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) with their painting series Hypermobility. The show is exhibiting May 9-14 at Cotton On in Morecambe, England, with an artist reception on May 14 at 6:00pm.
The genetic disorder Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) causes failure of connective tissue leading to hypermobility, musculoskeletal disorders, and a range of disabling complications including vascular and neurological symptoms. The Hypermobility art exhibition re-centers that disability as a form of beauty via MANDEMβs signature approach to the classical realist tradition of figure painting.
Using EDS-diagnosed studio models, the series captures moments where joints hyperextend or dislocate and the body moves into broken-seeming, impossible configurations. MANDEMβs oil paintings explode the line between medical documentation and fine art, questioning the way that society looks at disabled bodies. While Hypermobility portrays a painful and debilitating condition, these are not grotesque images. Using techniques passed down from the Old Masters, these paintings depict luminous and elegant figures.
βPeople with chronic illnesses and disabilities donβt see themselves represented in fine art, and are even less often allowed to determine their own self-representation.β MANDEM explained. βWeβve been contacted by people with EDS, from all over the world, who have been moved by these paintings.β
Morecambe city counsellor Claire Colzer said, βWe are so lucky to have an exhibition of this calibre in Morecambe,β describing MANDEMβs work as βtruly amazing, luminous, fantastic paintings.β
The showβs organizer, Kerry Ollerenshaw, also has EDS. βThe paintings are amazing. They are painted with understanding and compassion.β
Cotton On, a locally owned arts and crafts education center, has a mission to use enterprise for social good. Ollerenshaw explains, βfor me, creating is central to my well-being, especially after a day of severe pain and multiple dislocations. I also see the benefit of art in the students who craft in my studio.β
βWe are so pleased to find a local artist space already engaged in creating dialog about disability and art, and weβve enjoyed partnering with Kerry to share this series in the UK,β MANDEM said.
During the month of May, which is international Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome awareness month, the Hypermobility exhibit is exhibiting in Italy, England, and the United States. More information is available at http://MANDEMart.com/hypermobility.
Cotton On is located at 296 Marine Road Central, Morecambe.

I havenβt been on here in a while and I have missed so much! I received this in my messages and think it is fantastic! I am promising you guys that I will be on here more now!Β
Listen I donβt give a shit what anyone says- you know your body better than anyone else. When you say youβve hit your limit: stop. When you canβt keep your eyes open: sleep. When youβre hungry: eat. When you need to lay down and rest: fucking do that shit.
Iβm tired of able bodied people trying to police our bodies and tell us to βpush throughβ when that can seriously hurt or otherwise injure us.
Just because we canβt keep up with you doesnβt mean weβre not trying and just because you think we should be at a certain standard doesnβt mean we are OR EVEN HAVE THE SAME STANDARD.
Please just take care of yourselves yβall. Do what you can when you can and take a nap inbetween.
Napping is something I may use a lot to help me!Β

REST and drop the guilt
Recently I have developed a virus and its has sent my asthma INSANE!Β I am constantly exhausted, my pain is so much worse than normal and everything that is βnormalβ seems 10X worse!Β
My partner has developed the virus as well and keeps joking about how he now has it worse and is dealing with it better! I know he is kidding (his favourite hobby is winding me up!), but it has made me think about what other people think when throughout the year illness goes around everyone at work! I always feel like it takes about a month for me to fully get over any kind of illness whereas everyone else seems to get over it relatively quickly!Β
I always need to remember that I am already fighting illness, with a multitude of medication! This is a fine balance, almost like my body is walking across a tightrope and then BAM something else hits and you come flying off! My body doesnβt know how to cope with it, neither I nor my body have the resources. My fatigue gets so much worse! This is my body wanting to shut down and sleep in a way of coping with it - I may have woken up at 8:30, went to the Drβs then fallen asleep again in the afternoon for THREE hours today! I still feel exhausted and I have been resting all day, I will still probably end up in bed soon! Β
To me this seems like a failure, a waste of a day, but, it is not. I need to remember every one of us is different, our bodies our different and they all respond differently. It is always worth remembering, that just everyone has their own battles they are fighting. Everyone recovers in their own time, every body recovers in its own way.
Relaxing beer after work. I feel numb today, my wrists, hands and fingers have all been agony today. I canβt wit for my partner to come home for cuddles! I need to find more ways to relax!! Maybe that would help reduce pain and numbness. I am so lucky to have a supportive partner though. I just wish he was home from work!! #EDS3 #Pain #PainFreeDreaming #Hypermobile #HypermobilitySyndrome #InvisibleDisability #zebra #invisiblezebra #Zebby #BrideToBe
Something is wrong with society when the only person to give up their seat to someone less able than them has an invisible disability and is wearing splints and supports, in agony. You feel like you need a label on your back saying, 'I have an invisible disability'. I don't mind giving up my seat for someone who is in more pain, and less able than me but when the bus is packed, and I am in a lot of pain and then struggling to stay upright on the bus I do a little bit #hms #eds3 #invisibledisability #invisiblezebra #painismewinning #painfreedreaming #painwillnotdefineme #society #zebrastrong #zebra #zebby
Even though I love the gym, It's very off putting feeling like people are staring at you more than usual just because you are exercising with supports on ... they should see the amount of tape under my leggings!! #healthandfitness #health #healthy #healthyliving #fitness #hypermobile #hypermobilitysyndrome #hms #eds3 #ehlersdanlossyndrome #pain #painfreedreaming #painwillnotdefeatme #painwillnotdefineme #painismewinning #invisiblezebra #invisabledisability #zebra #zebrastrong #zebby

For EDS awareness month I am going to aim to post a new fact every day! Which may not happen due to I have a very busy month. But I will try to! Don't you get fed up of people saying but you don't look sick and feeling people judging you. Every year I hope May provides more insight for the public and health professionals about #EDS but I always feel like it is just those within the community still. This condition has so many different types / factors I think it's hard to promote the knowledge of it. It is hard when you try to explain what your condition is to friends and family. I really struggle to get people to understand that yes I may look well, I may also have a massive smile on my face and out for dinner with my friends but, I will be paying for it tomorrow and the next few days. We get really good at smiling to hide our pain. Part of me thinks we shouldn't have to do that but, I don't want to bog down people around me always telling them I am in pain and what it is. #paintasmileon #eds #eds3 #hypermobile #hypermobility #hypermobilitysyndrome #edsawarenessmonth #invisabledisability #invisiblezebra #zebrastrong #health #fitness #healthandfitness #pt #zebby

Don't be afraid to wear your splints / supports with pride at the gym! If wearing them (or tape) means you can exercise, so what!! Let people think what they want you should be proud that you are there and exercising. Just make sure they are safe for exercise! Sorry about the no make up, messy hair, flab and swollen legs look I have gone on today! Been at work on my feet and I am very swollen! This was after another circuit though. To finish off my sessions I like to do some steady maintenance stretching with some relaxing breathing. I find this really brings me back down to reality after a high intensity work out and let's me feel how my body is, and how it has reacted. #hypermobile #hypermobility #hms #eds3 #painfreedreaming #painismewinning #healthy #health #healthylife #healthyliving #healthandfitness #pt #justqualified #invisabledisability #zebrastrong #invisiblezebra #wesryourstripeswithpride #zebby
So, last night after work, I found out i had passed my course work I am just waiting to be signed off now. I was going to the gym but unfortunately did not have the time. Instead I did a HITT circuit by candlelight! The candles were only because our big light is not working, it certainly gave it an atmosphere. I was a bit sore here and there but I was not going to let that stop me. I have a selection of exercises for different body parts on flash cards, I then choose two from each and perform it 3 times! I was dead after but it was worth it. The flash cards make it easier for me, I choose what exercises I can do that day depending on my pain. It makes it easier for me to still do something when I am sore. Anyway, I hope your all doing well. Now I am qualified let me know if you need any help or have any questions. #health #healthylife #healthy #healthyliving #healthandfitness #happy #fitness #fitnessmotivation #pt #personaltrainer #eds #eds3 #invisibledisability #hms #zebra #invisiblezebra #zebrastrong #painismewinning #painfreedreaming #zebby

Remember to always treat yourself! Especially with chronic pain, but there has to be a balance, remember everything in moderation but never cut anything out completely! You always need a treat or a little pick me up. I have had a relatively bad week this week, stressed and a lot of pain so I am at the pub with my partner and a glass of wine. #treatyourself #everythinginmoderation #health #healthandfitness #healthylife #healthyliving #invisibledisability #invisiblezebra #hms #hypermobilitysyndrome #treatyourself #zebra #painfreedreaming #wine #poppyandpint #zebby
Really excited my new roll of tape has arrived! I have to say I have been through a lot of different tapes over the years for my joints but the #muellerkinesiologytape is by far the best I have used it stays on the longest and I find is the most flexible! It stays on in the pool and for a couple of days if needed! #painfreedreaming #painismewinning #eds3 #hms #hypermobilitysyndrome #hypermobile #health #healthy #healthylife #healthyliving #healthandfitness #fitness #gymday #pt #traineept #spoonie #invisiblezebra #invisibledisability #zebra #zebby
