Yet another new study debunked the basis for the anti-trans sports bans. It was never about sports but for creating legal avenues for exclusion and abjection. This is one of the largest analyses ever conducted, involving 52 studies and 6,485 trans people. Read the study here.
post so nice had to reblog it twice and force it down everyone's throats
At minimum about 4.5 thousand people liked this without reblogging it.
We gotta fix that.
Youtubers who just cover horror content are a godsend because horror is incredibly fascinating for me to analyze but also I’m a baby who hates getting scared
I've gotta help out here, since Wendigoon sucks and you deserve better
Night Mind is good at covering various ARGs and Youtube horror series. Been a fan of Nick Nocturne for a long time now, and definitely recommend his stuff
Lately I've been checking out Nightmare Movies, who tends to cover obscure horror/exploitation movies including a lot of foreign stuff. I've got a couple minor gripes with his presentation (I may post a clip thats accidentally really funny later), but definitely good for branching out and finding something new and creepy
One channel I can't recommend enough is Dead Meat. They have a series called "Kill Count" where they go over every death in a horror movie, and while doing so, go in-depth as to how the effects were done. It's a fantastic channel with a high production value and a lot of very clear adoration for the genre. With over 500 Kill Count episodes, I can't recommend it enough for any horror fan.
Might I throw my own hat in the ring and recommend MertKayKay? She's one of my favorite YouTube channels, she has a lot of thorough analyses on media dealing with heavier subject matter and sensitive topics, which obviously very often overlaps with horror, and in particular a lot of psychological horror series like Silent Hill or Stephen King's works. She gives pretty thorough warnings at the start of her videos, but it does go without saying topics like SA or suicide are common among a lot of these pieces of media. Well worth a watch, imo! I'm particularly fond of her videos ripping into Bloober Team's past games and the fumbling on messaging they had.
i need to put all three of these pictures in a single post. this is significant. this matters. this is why i exist

Tips for writing and drawing amputees
Amputees don't constantly wear bandages over their stumps after their initial recovery.
just for clarity, eda falls into an exception in the show, her amputation is new, but I've noticed a lot of the fandom doesn't seem to know this and draw her wearing the bandages continuously since the show didn't have time to make it clear, so that's why I'm picking on her as my picture example lol
I think this trope started from one of a few places:
1. People saw amputees wearing bandages/compression garments during the recovery from an amputation and just assumed they wear them all the time.
2. They think the stump is just a perpetual open wound that never heals, and so they think it has to be covered so as not to be "gory" (I've met fully grown adults who believed this until i showed them that wasn't the case)
3. People are just uncomfortable with stumps for some reason and want it covered on their characters.
4. People mistook the silicone or cotton liners amputees wear under their prosthetics as padding as a bandage and just assumed it was a bandage we have to wear all the time
5. Some combination of these points.
But if you're amputee has been an amputee for more than 6-12 weeks (maybe a little longer if the amputation was the result of a burn), the stump will be fully healed, no need to cover it.
And please, if you're working on something aimed at kids, or something that kids are likely to see, please show your character's stump at least once. I know this sounds like a weird thing to say out of context lol, but I used to work with kids, and I lost count of the number of kids who were actually scared me and my stumps because they were expecting them to be all bloody and scary looking. They calmed down when the realise they aren't but I was the first exposure a lot of these kids had. The problem is, kids can't always articulate that, especially if they're already scared, so often times they will say really horrible things, and for new amputees, or amputees who just aren't used to being around kids, this can be a devastating blow to their confidence. It's not the kid's fault, but that's why exposure to people like us young, before they have a chance to hear the wrong info that might make them afraid of us can go a long way.
a lot of people don’t tell you this when you’re starting to remodel your own home but occasionally under the floorboards you’ll find the entrance to an unimaginably sprawling and vast complex of underground lakes connected to each other through intricate networks of tunnels where suburbanite mermaids have set up mermaid strip malls with mermaid verizon, mermaid driving school, the mermaid liquor store, and so on. and many people will think this is a plumbing issue, but it’s actually a zoning problem
My love for Thomas the green moray eel who lives at the New England Aquarium continues and grows and knows no bounds. He is my muse. This is a plow book I made featuring my guy for my art books class, I love how I can fold him up in many funky ways

All this discourse over who does "painting with light"
Hiroshi Nagai's paintings need sunglasses to look at.
They look like how it feels to walk across a parking lot on a 98° summer day without a speck of shade in sight.
They look like heaven but also like you'd burn your bare feet on the ground.
Even when you can see shade you know it's not enough and the minute you step out you'll be burnt to a crisp like a vampire.
And it's BEAUTIFUL
I'll throw in the wonderful Eizin Suzuki into this ring too, a man whose work just breathes light without actually using dynamic lighting in the usual way. It's no surprise both Nagai and Suzuki are both considered prolific in art pertaining to the city pop genre because they're able to paint these kinds of scenes with a delicate touch.
This feels like I could trip on that radio and fall right into that water, feeling the crystal waves as I drop in.
And this, a nice stroll down a resort strip, where my sunscreened skin could literally feel cooked if I leaned too close to the tiling.
And then a nice stretch of summer street, wherein you could see your face in the flushed red of that car provided it didn't blind you from its sunny reflections.
I don't think I even need to say anything more, Suzuki's a massive influence in how he even places colours so warmly in such unorthodox manner. It's a naturally sunkissed talent~ 🌊
man sometimes friendship really is just "I saw this and knew it would give you psychic damage. please respond with agony" and then they do. and it's great
