i despise trying to do character analysis without seeing the character's pov but i desperately want to analyze Soul Hunt Katie... the way she's presented differently in each pov is fascinating to me.
In Rusty's pov, Katie is a kind, trusting friend, until she becomes a shadow, and then her alignment is unsure even if at first she seems to be acting the same on a surface level. For a while, the audience can't trust her any more than Rusty can, because the danger of shadows lying and betraying is well established. She warns Rusty of danger, but the danger she's warning of is herself. It's hard to tell how much she's changed as a shadow; she herself doesn't even seem sure of it. In the end, she is willing to hurt anyone but her closest friend, Rusty, even those that ally with her. She fights for Rusty, and only for Rusty.
In CC's pov, Katie is sweet, scared, and too trusting, until she becomes a shadow. Then she can't seem to decide what she wants, sometimes siding with Jaw when he talks about trying to make things better, but going on to kill people herself and enjoy it wildly in the moment. She resents that she was betrayed and killed, but falls in with all the other shadows to cause more violence and death because that's what shadows are 'supposed to do,' even if sometimes she feels a little bad about it. The only awful thing she and CC refuse to do is let their one living teammate die.
In Sinna's pov, Katie is nice, sympathetic, but more dangerous than she looks or seems to want to be, though not necessarily a threat to Sinna herself. She isn't happy with her shadow allies and doesn't really like that people are scared of her, but half-heartedly tries to prove that she's scary anyway. She's happy when Sinna offers allyship and trust to her and extends her sympathy to Sinna, but when talking to her expresses a lack of it towards other souls. She tries to tell Sinna that 4c is a lost cause, that she shouldn't bother trying to keep her friend safe. Her words of allyship don't guarantee that other people Sinna wants safe are safe from her.
Don't mind me rambling, and possibly editing this if/when i watch soul hunt again, hard to remember multiple povs... 2 of these povs dont have a finale yet so unfortunately i cant even consider those ones in their entirety :(
