Jax and Kinger
jax as a character doesnt really do it for me but i saw someone say that it's funny that gooseworx managed to make people care about a transfem character by disguising them as a tumblr sexyman and ykw that IS really funny actually

I'm reading the Undertale Kickstarter backer posts and I've discovered two things:
Toby Fox miscomposed his stretch goals. He kept having to scramble for new ones.
He really didn't ask for much money. (Eat God got more Kickstarter backing than Undertale, and it didn't have Homestuck name recognition helping it. Admittedly, there's 13 intervening years of inflation... still.)
To be fair, a lot of crowdfunded projects that went on to be massive cultural juggernauts brought in piss-all in their initial campaigns. Eat God also did bigger numbers on Kickstarter than Hollow Knight, but trying to judge their relative influence based on those figures would lead you to very peculiar conclusions!

I know this is meant to be funny but it actually makes such a good point about how ADHD and executive dysfunction can impact people in really major ways, including financially

Literary criticism terms I use on this blog despite making them up myself, much to the chagrin of anyone who does not have my back catalog memorized:
are we the baddies: SFF subgenre focused on agents of an imperial power realizing that and grappling with what to do next, in contrast to stories focusing on the scrappy rebels resisting said imperial power
I could fix him (the empire): SFF subgenre where the colonized subject being nice and/or sexy enough Ends Colonialism, frequently tied to the John President of Racism problem
librarian bait: books centered on the transformative life-changing power of books and libraries, cousin to books focused on the transformative life-changing power of storytelling and narrative in general
college brochure fiction: stories where the protagonist has an artfully arranged group of diverse friends who are as flat as paper and whose cultural backgrounds never come up meaningfully
the Dave Strider: character the fandom fixates on to the detriment of everything else, until the weight of that attention warps fanon and sometimes even canon around them. almost always male. it's happening to Gurathin from Murderbot right now
#OP tell us more about the John President of Racism problem!
It hails from an immortal tumblr post by penultimate-step, except not immortal apparently because I get 'not found' when I try to go back to the original. (Edit: Link found) So here's the text:
It's always disappointing when a series makes a big deal about societal and structural problems in it's setting, making readers think it has interesting things to say about the subject, only to then resolve the problems by fighting The CEO of Racism, John Racist, so that all of society's problems would then get better because they promoted a new CEO.
A hitman who advertises his services the way a commission artist does
“Um hey guys. I’ve been hit pretty hard with financial difficulty lately. I’d really appreciate it if you’d consider commissioning me.”
Stabbings: $45

PLS signal boost if you can! And in the meantime, if you need somebody killed, do NOT hire WetWorkKing05! he is a THIEF!
repeat after me:

”um why would I pay a hitmen would I could just steal military ai and have it kill anyone I want for free”
Ai military robots can not murder like real hit men, they’re messy and lack the spirit that involves murder
I’m never leaving this fucking app.

okay but imagine how inconvenient the streets of Central City, Amestris, is. Like yeah yeah country wide alchemy circle aside- can you IMAGINE the traffic? Like for the Love of Truth can we add another lane on this road?? The cars are backed up for miles! The urban planning board must be the sorriest people in the world. They got no clue what an alchemist circle looks like BUT the Fuhrer keeps showing up for an ominous visit every time they try to get a modicum of reasonable city layout. The zoning laws have got to be pure evil.
how many accidents do you think there are on the Central Command Roundabout in an average day
The crest of blood in the center was carved over the course of multiple years via traffic fatalities
At that point who even needs a genocide.
from the standpoint of a military base this actually makes sense, you can get out tanks out of central command quickly in all cardinal directions, presumably blocking all major roads in the meantime. I'd even go so far and bet the central headquartiers roundabout is blocked to the public and restricted to military purposes only (I'm pretty sure the only vehicles we ever actually see there are military or should be cleared for entrance (ie Mustang's car), which would make the central roundabout the next bigger circle, and that's just how several european cities I've been to are designed lmao (granted, none of which would be technically as big as central, but probably have a higher number of cars per capita).
See, every time we see the streets of central (at least in the anime, I don't know about the manga rn) there's almost no cars or traffic to be seen. This leads me to believe that there's way fewer cars in Central than we'd assume (I mean, this is a major city in the 1914, a car might be too expensive/not pay off), but that does not explain how all of these citizens actually get around since we also *never* see anyone take any public transportation. They do have tunnels under central (Pride's abode), but I doubt they have an actual subway, and a tram would make a lot of sense, but we never actually*see* one, and Ed and Al always walk everywhere.
I doubt it, but maybe they have a Barcelona-mega-blocks thing going on, with only the major roads actually drivable, and a lot of side streets being pedestrian first/walkable zones? (there do seem to be a lot of dark and dank alleyways in Central tho).
I guess people in Central either work for the military or stay home all day, lol.
filtering down ao3 results from 14000 to 6 based on a single tag is foul. im sorry none of you are as enlightened as me ig.
normal one. next question.

Oh, you’re a throuple? Who’s the hitter, who’s the hacker, and who’s the thief?
Someday your hands will be old and wrinkled, the skin spotted and bunching over your knuckles. And a child will watch you make something. It's a simple task, you'll have done it a thousand times before. But to that child, the smooth, confident way your hands move will seem like impossible magic. You have to keep living.
prev these tags have me crying. this is absolutely what it's all about
no one cares that you shave your legs because of sensory issues shut the fuck up forever
really galling amount of people misinterpreting this post so i'd like to clarify. i'm saying that when discussions about patriarchal beauty standards and the way women are heavily shamed and coerced into eschewing their own natural state of being (hairy) are occurring, it is unhelpful (AT BEST) to interrupt and say that the reason YOU remove the hair from your body is because of sensory issues. that's not what we're talking about. stop asking for validation for doing something that society at large wants you to do. stop derailing the conversation because you feel uncomfortable about being made aware that you, for whatever reason it is, adhere to harmful, unfair and ridiculous beauty standards. you're stepping into the middle of an important conversation that needs to be had and making it all about you. shut the fuck up forever.
also quite frankly i think a lot less people would experience sensory issues if they let their hair grow out so that it isn't bristly and rough and irritating. and i cannot help but wonder why these sensory issues aren't as predominant in men. maybe you're uncomfortable with the hair on your body because you've been taught to be uncomfortable with it. just a thought.
Different strokes for different folks. But sensory issues are a main reason why I DON'T shave.
7 years of hairy leg and counting.

"Aren't you worried AI will take your job?"
Listen, when I want to get paid time off at my job, I get my specifically designated and very physical orange "vacation sheet". I put in the dates I want to leave and sign it, then I have the coworker sign it who will cover my responsibilities for me while I am away, to ensure there aren't any important tasks left unattended or that my team is surprised by my leave. Then I go to my boss and have them sign my vacation sheet, confirming that I can indeed go on vacation.
Then I go to our departments secretary, and have them sign my vacation sheet and officially confirm how many days I am go and how many vacation I have still available. Then the secretary busts out the still physical piece of paper that is my specifically designated blue vacation sheet, which I have actually never seen. The secretary then copies over all information from the orange sheet to the blue one, so the content is the same, and then sends the blue sheet to HR while I get the orange sheet back. HR then plucks all the info about my vacation into their system in whatever shape or form they keep it.
Then, before I go on vacation, I log into my digital (!) employee time keeping account and mark the days that I go on vacation with "I am on vacation". The system then knows how long I'll be gone, when exactly, and how many days of vacation I have still left. HR can see into this account as well. However! Plugging in my vacation days into the digital system is illegal if I don't have the signed confirmations of my orange (and corresponding blue) vacation sheets. That is an illegal move. Do not pass go, and do not collect vacation permission.
This is just vacations. Don't get me started on the paperwork involved in overtime.
The way all the 2020s have done so far have been making me categorically against every new generation of tech that comes out is insane. Like I'm from a technological boom generation, saw the first portable phones, nokias & blackberries & flipphones etc, and the first smartphones, and the first ipods & ipads & tablets in general while still having cassettes & DVD & MP3 players around so I know how all of it work, I had computer classes in high school, I did the transition between home desktop computers to laptops and back to gaming computers. But then they started to put internet in your printer & microwave, everything has ads & AI now and every update is worst than the last. I literally loved technology and they ruined it
