A trailer park. Nevada, Utah, the desert. Couple folding chairs. Plant some flower boxes... Could be nice.
Even now, still thinking about him.
i bet it feels good to be an underwater plant just swaying in sync with the flow of water
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but i dont think thats a plant
Yeah that's a colony of thousands of animals called bryozoans :)
oh to be in a colony of bryozoans, swaying in the ocean currents
we are witnessing the gentrification of the term "tumblr sexyman" in real time and it is extremely disappointing. like no, live-action white boy #265 played by ryan gosling isn't a tumblr sexyman. i can't believe i have to say this but if it wouldn't get you shoved into a locker it probably isn't a sexyman

re: adaptation and the supposed âpurityâ of the original work itâs complicated right. and ultimately I think that whether classicists like it or not, itâs just the nature of the beast that (a) the texts we study have been and continue to be radically readapted and reinterpreted and we can have strong opinions about which adaptations we like or donât but itâs just the nature of a 2000+ year reception tradition to produce variance, and (b) the texts we study are much more a scholarly construction, and authorial intent far more difficult (and ideologically suspect) to try to recover, than is true of, say, a 19th or 20th century novel. which is to say that itâs one thing to say that Fennellâs Wuthering Heights misunderstands Charlotte Bronteâs novel and something quite different to say that Nolanâs Odyssey misunderstands âHomerâsâ epic, because the latter is responding to another 2500 years of a reception tradition that in some sense is not entirely or even primarily about the Odyssey as a poem in Ancient Greek. this is not to take a stand on either one as an ideological project or whether either is a good film (I am reserving judgment but strongly suspect that neither is) but to say that I think that whatever the Odyssey is on a conceptual level is much less singular and well-defined than what Wuthering Heights is, if that makes sense
basically what Iâm getting at here is that âHomerâ or âthe classicalâ is not a real, tangible, solid thing out there in the world that can only ever be correctly or incorrectly interpreted. itâs an ongoing process of cultural conversation and production and assignment of value judgments that operates across thousands of years of accreted meaning, and the impulse to see an adaptation or interpretation you donât like for ideological or aesthetic reasons and immediately claim that itâs a misinterpretation of the Original Text is a kind of rhetorical dodge
another history making marvel post I never see anyone talk about is âso is nobody helping blade kill all those vampiresâ
found it
this lamb keeps trying to sacrifice itself even though no one really needs or wants it to do that

me reading smut and calculating in my head the positions the characters are in
Me writing smut and calculating what position the characters are in.
I know I indulge in deeply parasocial behavior on here but there is a big, big difference between speculating and being silly with your friends in fan spaces, where any actor who sees what we're saying will know that they've chosen to enter a space where people are saying things that are not meant for their eyes, and going into the comment section of an actor's own account and acting like you know them. We do not know these people. It is creepy and disrespectful to go to someone you don't know and say "Hello total stranger, I know that the words coming out of your mouth are not what's in your heart and I'm so sorry that you are being forced to do something that you say you love when I know you're lying". Stop it.
not really a fan of the amount of people here who now hear âwar crimeâ and immediately think âfun meme termâ
A good part of the tumblr userbase understands that rape jokes are bad, they understand that using ârapeâ and ârapistâ as âfunny quirky meme wordsâ is fucked up and bad.
But at the same time weâve reached a weird paradigm where a lot of people who understand that consider âwar crimeâ and âwar criminalâ to be Funny Quirky Meme Words without realizing that war crimes very much includes rape!! It very much includes rape of all kinds in all kinds of scales!
It includes doing the most heinous things against children, it includes a wide range of the most heinous things. Just read the definition of war crime.
Why is it that you think that rape jokes are unacceptable but war crimes jokes are funny and cute and harmless?
Isnât it trivializing of actual war crimes the amount of people in this site who now have the immediate reaction on their brain to thing of âwar crimeâ as Funny Meme like a Pavlovian response?
Is it too weird that I think that this is fucked up?
Man.
I just wanna say, when I originally wrote this post I remember wondering if maybe the reason why people have different reactions to rape jokes and war crimes jokes had to do with people being largely ignorant about what war crimes entail.
Now it has gotten increasingly clear to me that it has less to do with ignorance and everything to do with people not thinking of war crimes as something ârealâ the same way they think of rape. Rape is something that can happen to them, within their communities. War crimes on the other hand are something that happens to other people, to other countries, therefore they donât even register it as ârealâ. People treat it as some sort of imaginary concept because the victims donât even register as real to them.
Behind the scenes of the Cyclops sequence in âTHE ODYSSEYâ. A 60-foot puppet was used on set in Nestorâs Cave, known as the birthplace of Zeus.
iâm a very rational person in general but i kind of do believe in sports curses. because of the evidence

Odysseus and Athena by Eberhard & Elfriede Binder.
I honestly think Gen-Z and younger simply does not understand how recent widespread smartphone adoption is.
I am not that old, and I didn't have a smartphone until probably late high school. For most of my life, many if not most people were not walking around with a magic internet machine in their pocket that they pulled out and used constantly for everything.
reblog if you remember having to ration your text messages and accidentally opening the internet on your phone was the end of the world
