A time ago, I told @theanoninyourinbox I was tempted to write a mini fic on one of their hypokit posts for Bluestar and Tallstar. I immediately fell in love with the premise and started typing as soon as I finished reading it. For the third time. Anyways, as I said, here ya go! I added a few more details for writer liberties, but it overall covers the same premise of the mini summary supplied on the original post.
It was a devastating blow to Thunderclan. Thrushpelt’s sudden passing left the entire clan in mourning, especially for Bluestar. He was more than a clanmate, he was her mate. Thrushpelt had pined after her for many moons for her to be mates with the blue she-cat. She had returned feelings as well, but didn’t act until her place as deputy was secured. The two were the talk of the clan, many speculating when they would have kits. Unfortunately, they never did. This brought Thunderclan’s leader to spiral down into a depression. She had longed to be a mother. Both her and Thrushpelt had discussed having them in the near future. But, it was too late now. Her chance at having children of her own was gone.
Fourtrees were restless. Riverclan, Shadowclan, and Windclan were still talking amongst each other, with certain conversations awkwardly dying down. The three leaders of each clan were glancing around past the clearing. Raggedstar started tapping his paw on the Great Rock in irritation. “Where is that toad-brained Thunderclan? We should have started already!” the brown tom exclaimed! The two other leaders, Tallstar and Crookedstar, whipped their heads around to the Shadowclan leader. “Raggedstar, that is no way to talk about a fellow clan,” Tallstar reprimanded. Raggedstar stood up on his four paws. “I can talk about them all I want. My paws are getting sore from waiting,” he grumbled. Suddenly, the cats gathered below started to raise their voices, catching the attention of the leaders. Cats started parting the crowd to allow the Thunderclan cats through. “Finally!” Raggedstar yowled.
Right away, Tallstar could notice something off about Thunderclan’s leader. Her movements were sluggish and her pelt was unkempt. An ear flicked in sympathy as the leader slowly leapt on the rock. Her head continued facing downwards as she sat between him and Raggedstar. Tension hung in the air before Crookedstar spoke up. “Bluestar, you made it,” he meowed. The blue leader only glanced up at the tabby with foggy eyes. “Yes,” was all she said. Raggedstar fluffed up his pelt, saying, “Since, Thunderclan decided to take their time, I assume something was so important that you had to run late?” he accused. Tallstar wanted to smack the spiky furred tabby upside the head for that. “As a matter of fact, yes, I do,” Bluestar murmured, stepping forwards enough so the cats gathered below could hear. “Tragedy struck Thunderclan a few sunrises ago. A noble warrior and clanmate, Thrushpelt, had passed away from an ill -fated battle with greencough.”
The other three clans immediately started voicing their sympathies to Thunderclan. Many were already aware of the mateship between her and Thrushpelt. Tallstar’s eyes widened a bit at the news. The black and white tom looked at the other two leaders. Raggedstar crouched down, no doubt in shame at the previous statements he said. Crookedstar dipped his head in condolence. Voices started to die down as Tallstar began to speak, “My condolences, Bluestar. Thrushpelt was a brave, kind warrior, and will be mourned for many moons.” Bluestar’s head perked up and gave a small nod. The Windclan leader took this as a chance to give out his own news. “Windclan has been faring well with the emergence of Newleaf. Sorrelshine has birthed a litter of healthy kits. No doubt they’ll grow up into fine cats,” he announced. The other clans started congratulating Windclan, especially Tornear, who was beaming with pride. Tallstar looked over at other leaders. The two toms congratulated him, while the she-cat’s eyes looked like they were about to water.
Crookedstar began speaking, but Tallstar didn’t pay attention. He was too concerned about the status of Thunderclan’s leader. He scooted a bit closer to her. “Bluestar,” he quietly meowed. Bluestar’s head quickly whipped around to the tom. Her fur was slightly raised at the suddenness. “Oh. What is it, Tallstar?” she asked, fur flattening. “If you ever need to talk about issues you have, just know I’m available to help you with your troubles,” he offered. Bluestar’s ears perked up a bit at the offer. Tallstar expected her to refuse, with the condition she was in. “Sure,” she murmured. The black and white tom’s ears perked up and nodded.
Raggedstar had concluded the Gathering. Riverclan and Shadowclan’s leaders gathered their cats. Thunderclan and Windclan’s leaders told their deputies to gather their cats, but to wait until their meeting was finished. Both leaders walked behind the rock, out of view of the other cats. The two leaders settled beside a clump of bracken. The blue leader still had her head down and cloudy eyes. Tallstar waited for Bluestar to speak up. He decided to speak up first. When he opened his maw to speak, the blue leader suddenly flung herself to him and started sobbing heavily into his thin frame. Tallstar was a bit surprised at the reaction. Was she really in this much distress? Regardless, he carefully placed a paw on her shoulder in reassurance.
“It’s alright. I know the loss of Thrushpelt was devastating, but you’ll pull through,” he gently meowed. Bluestar pulled away, back in a sitting position. “It’s not just that,” she sniffled, “I lost my chance to be a mother.” Tallstar blinked in curiosity on what that meant. Before he could ask, Bluestar explained, “Thrushpelt and I had always discussed having kits someday, long before I became deputy. But, I told him I had to wait if I did end up getting the position. I did, and then became leader. We were starting to plan, but then the greencough epidemic struck and…” she trailed off, starting to cry again.
Tallstar was surprised by how much he had learned. He was frozen, unsure of what to do or say next. This was clearly affecting her life in a negative way. How could he help a fellow leader in their time of need? Then, an idea came to him. He didn’t know if she would agree, but if she was desperate enough, then maybe she would. “I could help you,” he firmly said. Bluestar suddenly stopped crying and looked up at the lanky tom. “What did you say?” she asked, shocked. “I could help you have kits. If I’m being honest, I’m not looking for a permanent mate. But, I just can’t stand seeing a cat, let alone a fellow leader, so torn up about it. So, I’d be willing to help. That is if you want that,” he explained.
Bluestar’s eyes started clearing up, starting to shine like they did before. She leaned in, placing her head on his shoulder as a show of thanks. “Thank you,” she whispered in his ear. “Are you really sure you wanna go through with it?” she asked, stepping back to face him. Tallstar nodded, “Yes. You can just say when, and I would be willing to assi-” “Tomorrow at moonhigh,” she quickly meowed. The tom was a bit surprised by the quickness of the answer. But, he was gonna be true to his word. “Okay, tomorrow then,” he agreed. Bluestar dipped her head before joining the rest of her clan. Tallstar was left behind in the bracken, the weight of what he agreed to finally sinking in.
As promised, the two leaders met the next night at moon high. They did what needed to be done and went their separate ways. Over the next few sunrises, Bluestar started feeling belly pains. She told herself it would go away eventually, but they never did. During one particularly bad pain, she went directly to the Medicine Den. Spottedleaf was assessing her condition on what she might have had. The young medicine cat gasped when she felt around the stomach area. She quickly padded over to where Featherwhisker was sorting herbs. Bluestar got concerned when the medic apprentice whispered something into her mentor’s ear. Featherwhisker’s ears perked up as he glanced over to the leader. He walked over to her with his apprentice trailing behind. Spottedleaf’s paws were fidgeting as she looked up at the gray tom. “Congratulations, Bluestar. You’re expecting kits,” he said.
Windclan was having a pretty slow day. Hunting patrols were coming back with their catches. Cats all around began taking their pick of the Fresh-Kill Pile. Tallstar had gotten a plump hare and was sharing it with his deputy. The peace was interrupted by Cloudrunner and Mudclaw bursting into camp. “Tallstar!” they called out. The leader’s ears perked up at his name being called. He looked to the entrance of the camp, where the shouting came from. Cloudrunner and Mudclaw started walking towards him and Deadfoot. The black and white tom noticed another cat walking behind the two. He saw the tufted ears and recognized them. Whitestorm. Tallstar sat up on his paws as the three cats stopped in front of him. “He was waiting by the border. He said he has news to deliver to the other clans,” Mudclaw explained in irritation. Tallstar signaled for the two Windclan cats to leave them. They complied, leaving the leader, the deputy, and the Thunderclan warriors by themselves.
“Whitestorm, what brings you to Windclan?” Tallstar asked, feeling secretly nervous. He was worried that something had happened to Bluestar, or if anyone had found out about the agreement that he would sire her kits. “I’m just delivering news, on behalf of Bluestar. She may not be able to attend gatherings for a while. She’s currently expecting kits.” The lanky tom’s eyes blinked with surprise. He had fulfilled the promise he had made to her. “Well, send our congratulations. I’m glad Thrushpelt’s bloodline will continue on,” Deadfoot meowed. Tallstar glanced back at the deputy, realizing that the rest of the clans would assume he had given her kits before he passed. “Yes, give our congratulations. I hope they’ll be strong warriors one day,” he meowed. Whitestorm dipped his head, “I will make sure she gets the message.” Deadfoot stood up and turned to walk away. The leader was about to follow when Whitestorm stopped him with a paw. The lankier tom was initially confused at the action, but then the Thunderclan cat spoke up. “And, I also have a message from me. Thank you for making my aunt happier,” he said with sincerity. Tallstar’s ears perked up in surprise. “Um..yeah,” was all he said. With that, Whitestorm padded away to tell the other clans about the news.
Pain rippled throughout Bluestar’s entire body. She wanted this to be over already. “It’ll be okay, Bluestar. Just one more,” Featherwhisker reassured her. Bluestar yowled as she gave one final push. The pain had steadily left and was left with relief. Her mind was slowly coming back to her from the pain. The blue leader snapped back when she heard tiny mews. She looked down at the two tiny kits suckling at her belly. Her heart swelled with a joy she hadn’t felt in a long time. “A tom and a she-cat. Both healthy,” Spottedleaf happily announced. The she-kit looked a lot like Bluestar, with longer fur and a few black patches. The tom had a more lankier build, like the cat who fathered him. His fur was a more darker blue caramel, slightly resembling Thrushpelt, with darker, thick tabby stripes. She gave a mental sigh of relief that they didn’t have pelt colors similar to the Windclan leader. “They’re beautiful,” Bluestar tiredly murmured. “Have you decided on any names?” Featherwhisker asked, preparing herbs. “Yes,” she replied, still looking down at her children. “Heatherkit and Rainkit.”
The next moon flew by quickly. Bluestar absolutely adored her children. She was the happiest she had ever been since the passing of Thrushpelt. Originally, she was worried that he would view it as betrayal for having another tom’s kits. In a dream, he had reassured her that he wasn’t maddened by it, and was just happy to see her happy. Rainkit had inherited Bluestar’s sense of courage and was considered the troublemaker of the two. Heatherkit was more gentle and soft spoken, but still showed a sense of bravery, and stood up for anyone if needed. The two perfectly balanced each other. Redtail had stepped in doing Gathering announcements. He announced the birth of her litter. All of the clans cheered in congratulations at their birth. Tallstar felt pride in his heart, now knowing he did the right thing.
Five moons after the announcement, Thunderclan arrived with Bluestar leading again. Her pelt was now smooth and clean, and her eyes shone like moonlight on ice. Tallstar was talking with the gathered cats when he noticed the blue leader walking towards him. He stopped mid conversation to speak to her. “Bluestar. Welcome back,” he meowed. “It’s good to be back,” she replied to the lanky tom. Suddenly, a smaller figure stepped up behind Bluestar in curiosity. “Mom? Is this the cat you were talking about?” asked the smaller tom. Tallstar’s eyes immediately landed on the cat who spoke up. He had a lean, lanky build. “Heatherpaw! I told you not to leave me behind!” shouted another smaller she-cat, trotting up besides him. She looked a lot like Bluestar.
“Ahem. Tallstar, these are my kits. Rainpaw and Heatherpaw,” she introduced. “Hi!” Rainpaw excitedly meowed. “Hello,” Heatherpaw calmly meowed. “Hello, nice to meet both of you,” he said, leaning down. “I can tell you both already have your mother’s spirit.” “We’re about to start. You can go get to know the other apprentices more,” the blue cat told her children. “Okay ma!” Rainpaw said, beginning to walk away with Heatherpaw trailing behind. “Bye pa,” she whispered to Tallstar while passing. Tallstar’s pelt spiked in surprise, eyes following the she-cat as she and her brother joined the other apprentices. He turned his head to Thunderclan’s leader, her gaze still calm. “How..did..do they…,” Tallstar began to stutter. “They know,” she interrupted, “And they’ve already agreed to keep it a secret.” Tallstar gave a small sigh. “So, we should be headed to give the announcements,” Bluestar suggested. Tallstar, coming down from the adrenaline, nodded in agreement. Both leaders approached behind the rock. “And, Tallstar?” Bluestar started. The Windclan cat turned to face her when she leaned her forehead against his shoulder. “Thank you,” she whispered, her voice filled with relief. “You’re very welcome, Bluestar,” he replied. She pulled away and the leaders briefly stared at each other in appreciation before joining the others on the Great Rock.
Whitestorm did an excellent job training Heatherpaw. Rosetail did an excellent job training Rainpaw. Both apprentices were sitting below the Tall Rock as their mother did their ceremonies. “Heatherpaw, from this moment on, you will be known as Heatherfur, for your kindness and compassion. Rainpaw, from this moment on, you will be known as Rainbreeze, for your energy and courage.” The entire clan cheered out their names as Bluestar leapt down to congratulate her children. “I am so proud of you two. I know “he” would be proud as well,” she meowed softly while nuzzling her kin.
Seasons went by quickly afterwards. Both births and deaths occurred, with the latter being more widespread. It was a hard Leafbare for everyone. The entrance of Newleaf wasn’t any better, when they had lost the rights to Sunningrocks. Rainbreeze and Heatherfur could see their mother attempting to not buckle under the pressure. Then, things changed when a bright orange kittypet joined. After a tussle with Longtail, (Rainbreeze always thought he was bee-brained) he was officially welcomed into the clan. Rainbreeze was a bit shocked when Bluestar assigned her as his mentor. She was even more shocked when Ravenpaw burst into camp shouting that their deputy was dead.
Bluestar was appalled by Brokenstar. Shadowclan had driven out Windclan. She protested against the ragged tom’s decision to do so. Thunderclan left the Gathering in an angry mood. Bluestar announced she would be going to the Moonstone with Tigerclaw, Ravenpaw, Firepaw, and Graypaw. While gone, Shadowclan launched a surprise attack. Rainbreeze and Heatherfur fought valiantly against the intruders. They would avenge the clan of their father. They thankfully drove them off, but at the cost of Rosetail, Rainbreeze’s mentor, and Lionheart, the deputy. Upon returning, Bluestar named Tigerclaw as the new deputy. Heatherfur cheered his name, but heard something more. Due to his father being from Windclan, his ears could pick up more sounds, due to their size. His ears swiveled to where Ravenpaw was talking with Graypaw and Firepaw. It sounded as if Ravenpaw was upset that his mentor became deputy.
A few more days pass as Heatherfur increasingly becomes worried for Ravenpaw’s wellbeing. While passing the Apprentice Den, he hears the black tom’s panicked voice. He knows he shouldn’t be listening, but he just had to listen. He was starting to see the nervous apprentice as a little brother of some sort. The longer he listened, the more surprised he was saying. Tigerclaw killed Redtail and blamed it on Oakheart? He knew Tigerclaw was an ambitious warrior, but was he so willing to become leader that he would kill a fellow clanmate? Let alone deputy?
Firepaw and Graypaw left the den, leaving the black apprentice alone. Heatherfur saw this as an opportunity to get Ravenpaw’s side of what happened at the battle. He slipped into the Apprentice den, Ravenpaw was a bit surprised. “Hello, Ravenpaw,” Heatherfur greeted. “H-hi,” the scrawny apprentice greeted back. “Do you mind if I join you for a bit?” he carefully asked. Ravenpaw looked down at his paws before replying, “No. You can,” he said. The warrior nodded and walked over to the nest he was in. It started off with a few harmless questions about training, then progressed into battles, mainly the battle at Sunningrocks. Eventually, Ravenpaw burst and admitted his mentor’s treachery. He was sobbing and shaking as he spoke, hiding his face in his paws out of fear.
“He knows I know! He’s gonna kill me, I just know it!” the scared apprentice cry-whispered. Heatherfur’s ears flattened at how much distress he was in over this. He carefully wrapped his paw around the shivering cat in a side hug. “I won’t let that happen. I promise, I will not let him lay a claw on you anymore. If he does, I’ll get rid of him myself,” the warrior said. Ravenpaw’s cries softened as he looked up. “You sure?” he quietly asked. “I’m sure. And I swear, I will never allow him to lead this clan,” he said more courageously. Ravenpaw had stopped crying, his face still wet from the tears. “T-thank you,” he whispered. Heatherfur gave a nod. “Now, go rest up. We have a lot to do in order to expose Tigerclaw as the traitor he is,” he said before walking out of the den.
It was the night of the Gathering again. Earlier, Shadowclan had stolen Frostfur’s litter and killed their medicine cat. Heatherfur had participated in the battle to drive out Brokenstar and his followers. He fought side by side with Ravenpaw with the strength of Lionclan. Ever since promising his safety, he and the apprentice had a brotherly bond. Yellowfang, the former Shadowclan medicine cat, had stepped up to replace Spottedleaf’s role. Firepaw and Graypaw, had gotten their warrior names. Ravenpaw was a bit disappointed, but Heatherfur assured him he would get his soon. He could see the hardened gaze of his deputy glaring back at them.
The next thing he needed to do was get rid of the cat who killed Redtail. He had a simple plan; have his mother speak to Mudfur about the battle at Sunningrocks. Bluestar hesitantly followed her son to the Riverclan medicine cat. The two started off with a brief smalltalk before eventually moving onto the topic of Sunningrocks. “It was an unfortunate accident. Oakheart was brave. He was brave enough to risk his life to save your deputy,” Mudfur solemnly meowed, shaking his head. Heatherfur saw his mother’s fur stick up slightly. “How?” she asked. Mudfur replied, “During Sunningrocks, a rockslide was about to crush Redtail. That’s when Oakheart shoved him out of the way, but at the cost of his own life. The injuries from the boulders were too severe to heal. Were you not aware?” “No. I was not,” she honestly replied. “Thank you for your time. This is useful information,” she said walking away. Heatherfur mentally cheered on how that actually worked.
When Thunderclan came back to camp that very night, Bluestar called an emergency meeting. She had her deputy stand up and recount Redtail’s demise. Like before, he explained that the deputy was slain by Riverclan’s deputy. However, Bluestar explains that Mudfur’s story contradicted his own and that the injuries he had were from falling rocks. The rest of the clan caught on to the accusation, turning their gazes to the deputy. They all realized Tigerclaw was a liar, and hid the truth about their deputy’s death. Eventually, he admitted it. He admitted that he killed Redtail, who he described as a “soft hearted deputy.”
The clan yowled in outrage at the confession. Heatherfur was seated next to Ravenpaw as Tigerclaw yowled how the clan was weak under Bluestar’s leadership. The leader could see the heartbroken gaze of Runningwind, his mother’s apprentice, who was also Redtail’s mate. Towards the end of the night, Tigerclaw was exiled from the clan. As he left, he swore he would have revenge on Thunderclan and their kittypet loving ways. With that, he left through the gorse tunnel. Bluestar thanked Heatherfur and Ravenpaw for their bravery in exposing the traitor. Since Ravenpaw didn’t have any mentor, she assigned her son to be his new mentor. Both toms were excited to finally have a chance to breathe after all that happened.
The next few seasons were active. Fireheart and Graystripe had journeyed to bring back Windclan. Bluestar, Rainbreeze, and Heatherfur were so happy to see Tallstar return at the following Gathering, after all they went through. Fireheart had brought in her sister’s kit to the clan. The kit was given to Brindleface to care for. Following that, Brokenstar and his rogues attacked Thunderclan again. Once again, Thunderclan managed to drive them away, except for Brokenstar. Fireheart rushed into the medicine den where he went, only to find him writhing on the floor, with clawed out eyes. Yellowfang was standing over him with fur puffed out. Behind her, Goldenflower was lying down with fur also sticking on end. She looked more tired than usual, probably because she had just kitted again. Her tail was protectively wrapped around two kits. A tortoiseshell she-cat and a brown tabby tom.
Following the attack, Brokenstar, now Brokentail, was kept prisoner. Sandpaw, Dustpaw, and Ravenpaw were given warrior names for their part in defending the clan. Heatherfur thought Ravencall suited the black tom. Thunderclan assisted Windclan against an attack from the two other clans to drive them out again. Rainbreeze wondered how many more times they would have to be attacking or be attacked by the other clans. Once again, they were invaded by Shadowclan, who had gotten word of Brokentail still being alive. The night after the attack, Graystripe and Fireheart brought two kits into the clan, explaining that their mother was dead and that Graystripe was the father. He had decided to join his two kits as they were given to their mother’s home clan.
During that time, Heatherfur and Runningwind had gotten close with each other, originally due to their shared grief over Redtail. Their bond eventually shifted into something more than friendship. The clan wasn’t so surprised when they announced they were now mates and wanted a family. Rainbreeze stepped in to offer as a surrogate for the pair, with Bluestar’s approval. After all, she went through something similar, and would be considered a hypocrite if she didn’t approve. It was a peaceful time, but it didn’t last long. Later, a fire broke out in Thunderclan.
Everyone quickly evacuated the burning clearing. Ravencall and Heatherfur assisted Yellowfang out of the blaze, while the newest warriors, Brackenfur and Cinderleap, helped Rainbreeze escape with the other queens. The clan has successfully evacuated, costing the lives of two elders. Upon returning after the rain put out the flames, a small patrol went to see how much damage occurred. When looking into the Elder’s Den, there was the blackened and charred body of Brokentail, not that many cats really cared. The following Gathering, everyone was shocked to discover that a cat who was exiled moons ago, Tigerclaw, was now leader of Shadowclan.
Bluestar was visibly on edge since it was revealed. Her children were doing their best to comfort her on the pressures of it all. Her demeanor softened when her grandchildren were born, but she was still increasingly worried about Tigerstar’s rise in leadership, especially since he merged Shadowclan and Riverclan. Fireheart, Graystripe, and Ravencall launched a secret rescue mission to get Stormpaw and Featherpaw out of Tigerclan. The mission was a success with little difficulty. Bluestar knew she couldn’t be mad, when she also had half-clan kits herself. What she was mad about was Tigerclan attacking Windclan. Her and Tallstar both decided they would temporarily merge clans if they ever had a chance to defeat Tigerstar. This also allowed Tallstar to meet his grandchildren.
Lionclan met with Tigerclan at Fourtrees. Tigerstar threatened them that if they didn’t join, they’d die. Both leaders refused. He had already caused enough pain for them, and they didn’t want anymore. That was when rows of cats with tooth and claw studded collars emerged in the crowd. The Shadowclan leader introduced Scourge and Bloodclan, stating that they will rule together. He yowled for the crowd to attack, but they remained still. Scourge said that he is in control of his clan and called off the battle. Tigerstar furiously lunged at the smaller tom, only for him to get his belly sliced open in retaliation. The once feared leader had become nothing more than a heap of crowfood. Both merged clans were shocked at the display they had witnessed. Scourge told them that they have three days to either fight or run away. With that, Bloodclan left the clearing. Neither leader was ready to back down. They would fight until the very end!
It was a long battle. Many lives were lost, but the four merged clans emerged victorious. They wouldn’t forget the brave souls who risked their lives for the clan. Swiftrunner lost his life after facing the deputy Bone, after witnessing him ranking his giant claws over Brightheart’s face. He was quickly avenged by a group of apprentices. Towards the end of the fight, Bluestar had courageously fought against the Bloodclan leader, allowing for Fireheart to take the killing blow, eliminating Scourge. Upon the rogue falling, Bloodclan scattered. The cheers of victory were cut off by the blue leader collapsing on the ground. Heatherfur and Tallstar took notice, running beside her, along with Whitestorm and Fireheart. She was bleeding heavily from a massive wound that trailed from the back of her neck to her shoulder.
“Mom! Mom, please wake up!” Heatherfur cried while nudging the leader. Bluestar slowly cracked an eye open. Her breathing was shallow as she spoke, “My time is close…I have to go now..” Her glossy eye trailed over to the Windclan leader. She rasped, “Tallstar…thank you..for your promise you made..all those moons ago.” Tallstar’s ears lowered as he dipped his head. Her eyes slowly trailed over to Whitestorm, “My nephew…lead my clan well….I know you will.” Whitestorm nodded his head, eyes clouded with sadness. Her gaze turned to Heatherfur. The tom knew this was the last goodbye, making him cry even more. “My son…I am so..so proud of you and your sister…you’re both amazing cats…I couldn’t have asked for better,” she meowed, slightly above a whisper. “W-we’ll miss you, mom,” Heatherfur said, dipping his head to touch his nose with hers as a final goodbye. “I know you will…Don’t worry…I’ll watch over you in the stars..,” Bluestar meowed, taking an extra long exhale before going still. Heatherfur’s cries could be heard throughout the entire forest.
Enough time had passed so that both Rainbreeze and Heatherfur had accepted her mother’s passing. Whitestorm, now Whitestar, had named Fireheart his next deputy. Heatherfur was fine with that, as well as Rainbreeze. Both wanted nothing more than to serve the clan like they had always done. Many moons had passed since the battle. Heatherfur and Runningwind were so proud of their kits when they became apprentices. That wasn’t all that happened. Apparently, their deputy had gotten a sign to go on a journey. Rainbreeze and Heatherfur were unsure about the decision, their deputy leaving because of a sign that no one else was given. Sandstorm offered to go with him, to make sure he would come back. From Greenleaf to Leaf-fall, the deputy was off on his journey. The two eventually returned to the clan, not without a few injuries. Fireheart was missing an ear, was covered in small bites, and had a tail that was bent in several places, but he lives. He looked like he went to the Dark Forest and back, but they came back alive, which was more important than appearances.
Tallstar was dying. There was no denying that the elderly leader wasn’t gonna come back from losing this life. The cats present were Whitestar, Fireheart, Onewhisker, and the children he surrogated. The clans had just moved territories after twolegs began destroying the forest. Throughout the entire journey, the black and white tom’s health deteriorated overtime, up until this point. The dying leader’s breathing was raspy and heavy as he slowly scanned throughout the cats surrounding him. In his final breaths, he named Onewhisker as the new deputy over Mudclaw. When he was finished speaking, he slowly turned his head to his two children. He dipped his head in their direction, as a silent final goodbye. Rainbreeze and Heatherfur caught on and solemnly dipped their heads back. Tallstar could feel his energy slowly fading, laying his head down.
“Tallstar? Tallstar?” he heard, but it was none of the cats speaking. Through the haze of his vision, he saw a clear transparent silhouette. He gave a silent gasp as he recognized who they were. Bluestar. “Come on, dear friend. It’s time. You’ve served your clan well. It’s time for you to rest,” she spoke. Tallstar let out a content sigh. He led his clan well, he had two amazing warrior children and grandchildren. He was ready. For the final time, he closed his eyes and allowed a rush of numbness to take over.
(Aaaand fin! I really really enjoyed writing this so much. I hope I didn’t disappoint with this! And, I’m sure you’re probably wondering about the kits Rainbreeze surrogated with Runningwind. Here’s a brief description of appearances.
-Thrushkit - A fawn tom with darker legs and tail tip and a splash of white on his chest. (like a Thrushpelt clone)
-Flightkit - A fluffy blue-silver she-cat with slightly darker tabby stripes
-Sedgekit - A light brown she-cat with darker brown, striped patches and a lighter tail tip
Welp, that’s about all the time I have now. Hope you enjoy this very much, and I’m okay with answering any questions you have left.)
