Victor Frankenstein after achieving the impossible and building a fucking person from scraps of the dead: Oh god, ew, ew it's ugly! Yucky! Yucky! Gross! Ew! Ew! Yucky! Yucky! Gross! Ew!
things that always make me happy: serial commenters. there are three types
1) reading a longfic chapter by chapter, leaving an increasingly emotional comment on every chapter, descends into keysmashes near the end: outstanding
2) read one fic by accident, clicked the author name, now working steadily through the backlog and commenting on everything, I wake up to an AO3 inbox full of enthusiasm: precious beyond words
3) the longterm serial commenter whose comment begins with I donât even know this fandom but because they have followed me from somewhere else: stunning. humbling. magical.
these are all *chefâs kiss* and I want to add one more: 4) left a comment a while ago, comes back and leaves another comment on the same fic, telling you that theyâre coming back to reread the fic: angels. blessings. lifesavers.
I owe all 4 my actual life
I've been number 3 with authors
You are writing a crossover between 2 fandoms I'm not in and one of those is a show I've never seen but I'm reading it anyway.
Working an office job will truly make you have the wildest enemies, bc why is my nemesis rn a woman Iâve never met and who exclusively haunts me by sending diabolical emails, and also a specific guy who left my company before I even worked here and made the system so fuckass that it ruined procedures for like a year
Yesterday my nemesis (woman Iâve never met and whose face Iâve never seen) sent my office an email so rude, basically saying we had fucked up every project she ever ordered from us, one of the worst emails Iâve ever read in my life.
And it pissed me off so badly that I spent the ENTIRE WORK DAY today compiling evidence from every project my team has ever done for her, pulling past emails sheâd sent us, putting together an entire case proving that she had been the problem all along. That she got projects mixed up, that sheâd made requests that were nonsensical, literally everything you could possibly imagine. Screenshots of emails, reports weâd submitted, EVERYTHING.
This woman in particular has been terrorizing my team for years, her name is almost a slur in my office, I had simply had ENOUGH of her.
I put all of this evidence together and sent it to all of my bosses at 4:30pm. Then I took a long break to eat a sweet treat and drink some tea.
After my break, my bosses all called in an emergency meeting with me and they said they read my report and fucking loved it. And I sat on a teams call with my bossâ boss as she wrote my nemesis the scathing email I had always fantasized about sending, using the evidence Iâd compiled, and hit send.
It was the most satisfying workday Iâve had since I got hired.
"Why do you need age verification on a site where everyone is 38?"
hey uhh, @daysleftofsecondterm, unsure if this is the right way to notify you about this but seems maybe like this'd be good to share?

I love characters who would die for each other but will not, under any circumstances, communicate a single honest feeling.
DHS officials cite mistaken identity in latest death at the hands of ICE agents.
Alix Breeden at Daily Kos:
When Lorenzo Salgado Araujo arrived at a Houston hospital after being shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Tuesday, he was admitted as a John Doe. The federal agents may not have known his name when they set out to the predominantly Latino East End neighborhood to apprehend immigrants that day, but they were extremely aware of who Salgado was as they stripped him of any form of identification and his belongings after shooting him. That move kept his family from claiming his body, according to news reports. âThat is Soviet gestapo tactics when you want to hide a crime or victim,â Juan ProaĂąo, chief executive of the League of United Latin American Citizens, said in a conversation with Daily Kos. The organization is supporting the Salgado family in their quest for answers.Â
The details around this latest ICE shooting are murky at best. When news first broke that the 52-year-old Mexican national was shot, the Department of Homeland Security claimed that ICE agents were en route to detain a different man who drove a similar vehicle as Salgado. Officials also claimed that Salgado tried to ram an officer with his vehicle, although they have offered no evidence to prove it. Itâs unclear who the actual target wasâor why ICE agents zeroed in on Salgado as the veteran builder drove employees to a construction site that morning. âThere are thousands of those trucks around Texas,â ProaĂąo told us. Whatâs clear is that this case of mistaken identity had tragic consequences.
âThere were two menâone in the driverâs seat and one in the passenger seatâthat were of brown complexion and of Latin descent. This is very clearly a case of racial profiling, very clearly a case of civil rights violation and due process violations, and excessive enforcement on behalf of ICE and its agency,â ProaĂąo said. âItâs very clear that they have not changed their tactics since [Kristi] Noem and [Greg] Bovino were in charge.â [...]
The Salgado family knew the risks of being Latin American in the U.S. under the Trump administration. âThe family had a protocol in place should there be an encounter with ICE,â ProaĂąo told Daily Kos. Salgado, who had lived and worked in the U.S. for 35 years, was âweeks or possibly months awayâ from obtaining his citizenship. As they anxiously awaited that day, ProaĂąo said, the familyâincluding Salgadoâs three U.S.-born childrenâwas told to ânot overreactâ and to call a family member and the family lawyer if they were detained by ICE. âAnd they knew that even if he was detained, they could always get him back. But the escalation here clearly got to a point where the families now had to suffer a terrible loss, a family that never wanted this national attention,â ProaĂąo said. Now the Salgado family, with the help of LULAC, is reluctantly in the spotlight seeking what justice there is left to claim. And DHS, in a similar response to the shootings of Pretti and Good, has continued to deflect responsibility.
[...] As it stands, LULAC and other community advocates are demanding an independent investigation. So far, LULAC has obtained over 100,000 signatures on a petition calling for just that. Similarly, the organization has pushed a GoFundMe to help foot the familyâs legal and household bills. âTheyâve lost a husband, a father, a provider, a protector,â ProaĂąo said. âSomething that no one would ever expect on a normal, routine day for Lorenzo and for his family.â Salgadoâs death prompted Mexican government officials to announce that Mexico will file criminal complaints in the United States on behalf of 14 of its citizens who have died while in custody at U.S. detention centers. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Wednesday said itâs time to âgo further than diplomatic notes.â
ICEâs coverup of its killing of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo is the duplicitous play they pulled in the aftermaths of the killings of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti.

Something that annoys me is the constant whining about "more queer spaces, more queer communities" but then they're immediately like "yeah! And we need ones that don't cost money or require a purchase!"
Girl that's exactly why they close down after a year. You NEED money to keep these places open. There's no magic Gay Money Pot with endless cash to keep these places open. It requires YOU to put your money where your values are!!
Like there was a queer coffee shop in my city. Owned and operated by a bunch of LGBT people. Not a cishet on the schedule. Tons of young people raved about it.
And it made it about 2 years before shutting down completely. Because all those young people who begged for a place exactly like this would just show up, not buy a single thing, and leave. You cannot build a community without putting your money into it. This isn't about capitalism, this is just reality. You can't open a restaurant where no one buys your food. You can't have a gay bar that only serves 5% of the population and actively excludes everyone else. This is what I mean when I say people confuse "community" and "friend group." You're not obligated to spend money when hanging out with your friend group. But if you want a lasting community centered space, you need to open up that wallet.
project hail mary is a touching and poignant film that leaves you asking questions about humanity like, "wow what if all mainstream media was genuinely good" and "what if book adaptions actually gave a shit about the book in question" and "what if studios hired actors that could actually act, and then let them get a lil wacky with it"

Something else I see people keep forgetting: between humans and Eridians, we are the astronauts. And we are good at it.
Eridians' perception of the world relies on something that is completely absent in space â sound. They haven't been looking at the stars their entire existence the way we have. Their concept of aliens might only be as old as their discovery of astrophage. They made a bad ship, because it was their first one ever! Rocky himself says they rushed it, and that multiple (vital) things broke. Their mission was just as much of a Hail Mary pass as ours was â they had no idea what they were doing, if they could even travel in space safely. And, as it turns out, they couldn't.
Humans are the ones who have been doing it over multiple lifetimes. Mary is state of the art. We've been space farers longer than most humans have been alive. We can actually see through space. We are more likely to survive exposure to the void. We can encase our lighter, more flexible, more mobile bodies in a material that lets us walk outside of our ship, and, to a degree, we can get our bearings out there in a way Eridians just can't.
Eridians are not looking at Mary and thinking she's a bad ship. They are not thinking humans have no idea what we're doing. They are looking at this species that can walk in the stars, have been perfecting machines to take us to them for decades, have been dreaming about them and mapping them and naming them for millennia, and used all of that to save them, and thinking, wow.
My favourite Adrian headcanon is that they're a biologist/zoologist who has seen so much shit, they're completely unphased by any and every alien habit of Grace's.
I mean full-on khaki-shorts-wearing, traversing-wilderness-with-nothin'-but-a-machete Adrian who yoinks snakes outta trees and pets swamp puppies and will unflinchingly dig around in elephant faeces for signs of a rare parasitic tapeworm if needed.
Oh, humans eat socially? No problem, Adrian has observed many many animals eat. Did you know that an obscure species of small underground dirt creature from the north side of Erid also eats socially? Adrian can give you a not-so-short presentation on them.
Oh, the human has no external carapace and so its internal sounds are absurdly loud, wet and off-putting? No problem, Adrian was just conducting an expedition last month researching the incredible eridian animal, the Wet Loud Worm from the south-east region of Wet Loud Wormland. They're desensitised, it's fine.
Oh, Grace leaks often from many orifices and it can be a bit of a learning curve to get used to? No problem for Adrian, see Wet Loud Worm paragraph again!
Meanwhile, Rocky is bewildered as to how he's managed to third-wheel both of his relationships, because both Adrian and Grace are nerds who nerd out about things, and Adrian is shaking in their carapace with enthusiasm to learn more about human culture and biology, not to mention everything about earth animals. And yeah, sure, Grace might be a molecular biologist, but he'll be damned if he'll pass up an opportunity to learn about alien fauna from a fellow scientist, and yes, Adrian, he'd love to hear about the small underground dirt creature from the north side of Erid, and he's so excited to learn more about the Wet Loud Worm, do go on.
