on the one hand, i feel like fian/jarra/raven would be thematically appropriate because of her grandmother's marriage to riak and bard as well as the way it would call back to blaze's relationship with tad. It's also supported in-universe by fian and jarra saying they don't feel complete when raven isn't there, and there was also that time when fian made a joke about how he was drawing the line at threeing
On the other hand, i haven't liked a single one of janet's main romances, and i'm scared that if they ever did become canon, all my enjoyment of the ship would evaporate š
Fair, some things are better not being in canon. I do think it would be nice to have a main character in an actual triad relationship though, not just side charactersāand honestly same thing for non-het relationships. I love the side characters, but still.
Oh absolutely agreed. If I was given the choice I'd say yes in a heartbeat - given how important triad relationships are in betan culture, it's an absolute crime that the only canon triad we have where all parties are still alive and married to each other is betha and her husbands - and that only happened off-screen
Also agree about non-het relationships. I love weston/vijay, ronno/keren, and seanna/nadira but they're all tertiary characters. Given portal future has like 14 published books now and we've followed 4 different protags for significant periods of time (jarra, drago, blaze, glori), i find it frustrating that they've all been straight and monogamous. I feel like Glori, specifically, could very easily have been a guy.
(Also i know i've complained about this before, but i still think it's a complete cop-out to say that bard and riak's relationship was platonic)
I maintain that Glori and Jaxon would have been amazing together with Lewish. Iām still a bit sad that Janet actually took the suggestion but only to make certain that there will NOT be a triad relationship.
And youāre absolutely right. Weāve had a lot of same-sex relationships in the background but never with the main characters. Itās high time we had representation in the foreground.
