james baldwin was so right when he said âthe children are always ours, every single one of them, all over the globe; and I am beginning to suspect that whoever is incapable of recognizing this may be incapable of morality.â

The Color Game. âHumans canât reliably recall colors. This is a simple game to see how good (or bad) you are at it. Weâll show you five colors, then youâll try and recreate them.â I scored 39/50 but got a perfect score on one color.

I love it when you can pick up an animatorâs quirks.Â
Iâve read in old interviews with Milt Khalâs fellow animators that he did the swaggle to purposefully show off. Moving the head in 3-d space is an exceptionally hard thing to do but Khal upped the level of difficulty to a place many animators wouldnât go.     Not only are they all doing the swaggle youâll notice they are all TALKING while they are doing it. This is back in the days where you had to use a timing sheet to pace your animation and a head swaggle doesnât work if its too slow or too fast so he had to figure out the right speed so it looked natural while the character finishes what they have to say while not interfering with the distinct mouth shapes.      Not only did Khal do it without any shifting weight problems or timing issues he would often do it while moving the rest of the body. This isnât his signature move just because he was good at it.This is his signature move because he was one of the only people skilled enough to DO IT AT ALL.
Milt Khal was a MASTER.
God, I canât express to you how fucking DELIGHTED I become whenever they Milt Khal Head Swaggle Post graces my dash with its presence again.
I'll love to read some star trek's original slash zines like it must be amazing to see who K/S have evolved over time, who it was perceived at the beginning...
Not zines in the traditional sense (more like zine novels), but if I may offer two of my favorites from the 1980s that I greatly love:
Beverly Sutherland's Broken Images (AO3 link; you must be signed in to read). You can read about the fic here to get an idea of what it is about.
Judith Gran's Terminus (AO3 link but the formatting is odd; I've made a reformat of it here, you can download as PDF or what have you). And you can read about the fic here because it is a bare bones port to AO3. A lot of people view it as very angst-heavy.
And as a bonus, thanks to the wonderful Internet Archive's Wayback Machine and the lovely people behind Fanlore, some of Della Van Hise's fics still exist online! (that links to my post about it; I just compiled the links in one post and rambled about it on my blog because I was so excited to find them. All of them are in PDF format.) She was a prolific writer if not a cornerstone of the fandom for all she did. Please take the time to read the few works of hers that are still online and easily accessible to fans.

I will always reblog this
still remember how revolutionary this ad felt 10 years ago
excuse me but it still feels revolutionary
Keep reblogging until it feels normal everywhere.
I had a doubt where this was going from the beginning, and itâs just so gorgeous.
But even without talking about the message, can we talk about the form? How absolutely beautiful is this ad? The filming? The colors? The little details they chose to focus on? The lights?
The book, the sand, the ball, the book (x2), the map, the door, the card box, the gloves washing dishes, the popcorn, the sea water, the hand on the shoulder, the garland, the birthday cake, the two hands holding each other?
So many little things, little details, that make life worth living. That make life so beautiful.
I donât know if everyone experience life that way. I know many in my family donât, so I donât know if itâs a neurodivergent thing, or a trauma thing, but I found this ad to represent the way I experience life: focusing on the details, on the little things that matter a great deal more than the big ones in the end. The little things that bring meaning. And it really moved me.
And letâs not talk about the end. About the way he finally moved into the frame after his partner proposed, as if heâd been experiencing the whole thing from afar, and only joined in when two became one. We saw a great deal of his partnerâs life. Now, it became their life.
From an advertiserâs point of view, from a copywriterâs point of view, itâs a beautifully written ad. Thatâs the kind of ad that made me choose my job in the first place. You can make people feel so much, with so little. They couldâve cut it in half â hell, they couldâve posted a third of that ad, and it would still have had the same impact. Four or five scenes wouldâve made the same statement. Thatâs how well written it is. Clean, clear, and to the point. And so, so well played and filmed.
Iâm really in love with it.
My personal goal is to try and make fanfic binding as accessible to everyone as possible, so here are some resources on how to make a fanfic hardcover for under $25.
This is a barebones bind for the broke college students and such. Happy to field questions, too!
Here's a proposed budget breakdown:
Loosely organized thoughts:
Fanfic bookbinders often share typesets amongst each other. Never pay for a typeset for a fanfic.
You'll hear a lot about grain direction for your printer paper, but as a newbie on a budget without your own printer, settle for some nice 92 bright paper. If you like the hobby, splurge after but expect to pay at least 2-3x more for short grain paper.
Printing is a pain because some copy shops won't let you print intellectual property smut, and it's very expensive. You are better off bartering instead or looking for a free printer on Buy Nothing.
You know the thick paper wrapping that comes with online orders? It's a good weight for endpapers if you need to scrounge. Paper grocery bags or gift bags (birthday presents) might work, too.
Ask your local library to give you covers from books they are throwing out. Ask for outdated textbooks (those covers are built like tanks) or three-ring binders that are too busted to be binders anymore.
Obtain a used book that was mass produced (so your destruction of it does not impede anyone's access) and maybe even become a little vindictive with it.
If you can afford it, I recommend the Olfa SVR knife (~$10)
If you can afford it, upgrade your ruler to a t-square.
I really hope this resource is helpful! I want to stress how possible this is and encourage people to cherish what they love through art.
If you are interested in fanfic binding and have a little more disposable income, I have an affordable Fan Fiction Bookbinding Starter Pack that I carry on my site. I pack them myself and drop them 1x/month on the 15th.
This is such a great resource for anyone starting out fanbinding!
âLes Jurons du Capitaine Haddock / Captain Haddock's Swear Wordsâ HergĂŠ 1985 Poster inspired by the 5th panel on the 7th page in Le TrĂŠsor de Rackham le Rouge. While the original illustration is by HergĂŠ, the author of the design is unknown.
To all my writers who have a tough time with smut terms and not knowing which ones to use, I have found the holy grail for us.
This reddit user took a poll of 3,500 people and went really in depth with asking their favorite terminology, along with actual pie charts on what the readers preferred to see in their smut.
Here's the direct link to the Google doc with all the info!
A treasure! Especially the Notable Omissions sections.
Now that's interesting. I like great polls and this one is enlightening. đđ¤
French senator Claude Malhuret sums up the world made by the current American administration, 5 March 2025
"We were at war with a dictator, we are now fighting a dictator backed by a traitor."
Hearing one of our centre-right Senators matter-of-factly call Elon Musk a buffoon on ketamine and compare Trump to Emperor Nero was satisfying.
