In Kremnos he brings you home. The palace is large and so much quieter than you'd expect a war-people's palatial seat to be. The people there maintain distance, but treat you with respect. You'd heard this is an engagement tradition in some cultures — his too, perhaps? You don't ask. He doesn't tell you. It's been so long since someone's touched you kindly, maybe that's just something you dreamed up in desperation. So you let him preen and plait. His hands are so steady and sweet, it feels like they're building you back anew.
