So it's finally upon us, the weekend writers' retreat, which I will be attending starting today (Thursday). I tried my best to to get ahead and prep my blog for the weekend so that y'all won't notice any difference (I've even prepped a new list for Sunday! WOOOOOO been awhile since I've had a list ready this far in advance LOL), and I think the ONLY thing y'all will notice is that I won't have an hourly post for the next 4 days, LOL.

This past weekend (August 7-10, 2025) was the annual Fic Writers' Retreat and the first European Writers' Retreat, and I was fortunate enough to be a part of such an exciting and magical experience! Then the random number generator tells you which ones to use. This way, I ended up with the following prompts to use: Lestrade, Mrs Turner, An argument, flight, superhero The rules were: you have 20 minutes.

Avoiding Secrets✨ by @helloliriels (G, 708 w., || TUMBLR || SHERLOCK X SANDMAN CROSSOVER || Pre-ASIP, Army John, Light Angst, Dreaming, Character Study) – John stepped into the large marble hall, gazing around in wonder at the great expanse. At one end of the vast room was a raised dais above a winding set of stairs, and out the window beyond, the stars - the stars! - too numerous to count, shone through the window brighter than they should at any time of night. He knew he must be dreaming.

Brooklyn Dust by @beccibarnes (G, 540 w. || TUMBLR || GOOD OMENS / MARVEL CROSSOVER || Steve Rogers POV, Bars/Pubs, Bartender Crowley) – I rolled Steve Rogers and Crowley as characters, which is an interesting combination in itself. Then I kinda mixed and matched the two prompts, "Protagonist visits a place of their childhood home" and "He drank life before spitting it out". But mostly I just tried to make these two meet in a believable way. Written in 15 minutes with only minor edits afterwards.

Fastidious, Yet Disorderly

I write this in my private journal to keep it to myself. Not every word I write about the world’s only consulting detective is meant to be disclosed to the general public. If I am in luck, I will be able to conceal this from the man himself. He will be sure to tell me if I fail this, make no mistake, Watson.

I have lived in 221B Baker Street for the length of two months, three weeks, and one day, and I am pleased to say that I have never felt more alive in my life. However, I have never been more aggravated with a person either.

Sherlock Holmes is extraordinary, brilliant, extremely intelligent, which my stories in Strand Magazine bear witness to. What people do not know about the masterful detective, is his peculiar habit of strewing papers and books all around our rooms. Mrs Hudson describes it as ‘a spectrum of chaos’. Quite the apt account in my humble opinion.

In some instances, it can best be described as mayhem, because Holmes can be excessively vocal when he is unable to find what he is searching for. 

He looks like a deranged scientist when he is in one of his frenzies. His eyes are protruding from their sockets, his hands make his normally slicked back hair into a bird’s nest, and his clothes are dishevelled.

The first time it happened, I was worried sick. Before that, I perceived Holmes as the most fastidious of gentlemen when it came to personal hygiene and appearance. No wonder it shocked me so. Had not Mrs Hudson divulged to me that this happens on a regular basis, I would have administered a sedative for him, I think.

(Pans out to both of them including their reflections in a huge puddle. There’s pinkish lights coming from a store as the sun continues to rise)

Sherlock: no it’s not. You’re more important, you’re-

John: I’m what Sherlock?

Sherlock: …

John: IM WHAT?

Sherlock: everything..

(Pan to both of them again. John looks confused)

John: what?

Sherlock: YOURE EVERYTHING JOHN WHAT DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?

Sherlock: YOURE EVERYTHING! EVERYTHING TO ME!

(The sun is peaking out between the buildings, everything is bathed in a warm pink light)

John: *starts to laugh manically*

Sherlock: what funny about this?

John: haha good one Sherlock. You almost got me. There’s no WAY you want ME back.

Sherlock: *a look of painful understanding crosses his face*

(Pan to both of them)

Sherlock: no John I’m not joking with you.

John: aren’t you?
