I have a tradition where I redraw this frame every year and make Yor my pfp on all my platforms!! But I’ve decided to not use it for Tumblr cuz. Idk. Dont feel like it. But here it is anyways live laugh twiyor
I have my lists of things that I dont like that the Untamed changed but Xue Yangs death scene was just something of a perfection.
I think it was a good change to make Song Lan kill him in the end and not Lan Wangji, yes Xue Yang was already dying because of his arm, but it just tied everything together well. And all the small things in the scene; Song Lan dragging his sword on the ground, his reflection in the pool of blood, his expression.
He’s not happy or even angry, first he just looks empty and then sad and devasted. He’s not happy while killing him, he’s not Xue Yang, he doesn’t enjoy revenge or killing.
Then the flashback to Xiao Xingchens death and how it broke Xue Yang and then the fucking candy.
I like that he died while looking at the candy, because in the book the hand that held the candy was cut off and his dead body was teleported away.
And just before he dies he’s thinking that Xiao Xingchen was someone he had been dreaming about since he was a small child.
Reminds me of the theory that just before you die your mind plays the best memories of your life.

do you ever think about meeting a man with the same ideals and the same dreams as you who reaches for your hand in a way you shy away from and laughs at jokes you dont know how to make. do you ever think about losing your home and losing the people who raised you and losing your eyes and you get your eyes back but you lose him and its all your fault. do you ever think about spending years searching for him to try and make it right and when you find him by following a little girl with warier eyes than him because he always did attract people who loved him for what they didnt have he doesnt recognize you and he stabs you and kills you and you cant make yourself let him know whos sword is in your hand because you dont want him to hate himself you fucking die at his hands and you dont want him to hate himself and you wake up after being controlled by the man who destroyed you both and he did exactly what you feared and the remnants of his soul and the girl who loved him are both in a pouch and you cannot eat and you cannot sleep and you will never join your loved ones in the cycle of reincarnation and all you can say is that you want to travel the world and do good with the man you loved. or what's left of him. because what else can you do? you're alone and everyone you loved is gone and you carry their memories and what's left of their souls while being dead yourself.
do you ever think about how loving xiao xingchen was really what cost him everything and do you ever think about aside from that one moment of weakness he never stopped regardless

mxtx, writing xue yang: you're a boykisser
Xue yang, dyslexic as fuck: ah, yes. A boykiller
genuine ethical dilemma posed by Xue Yang's existence:
if, in a society wherein sect leaders massacre their enemies over politics, the only person being put on trial for a massacre is the one without a sect, are his CRIMES actually illegal, or just his class?
"Xue Yang did all that to avenge his finger" is such a funny take, like. Did you listen to his story? Did you put yourself in the shoes of his 7yo self for ANY seconds at all?
Because lets recap: He was tricked, and used, and hungry, and beaten repeatedly, and treated as worthless and disposable, all by a man fully capable of paying him for his work. He was sent alone to deliver a taunt to a dangerous man. He was seven. He accepting the beating he received without complaint, and was further beaten for asking for the payment he'd been promised. He was whipped, and knocked in front of an ox cart.
Chang Ci'an didn't AIM the cart at his finger.
Chang Ci'an deliberately knocked a seven year old orphan child to the ground in front of an ox cart and ordered the driver to drive over the child.
And the driver did.
He manage to escape with ONLY one crushed finger (and, we can assume, many less permanent injuries). Crushing injuries are incredibly serious, and even one so small can be deadly. An orphaned child can't afford decent medical care. Adult Xue Yang has a SEVERED finger, which means that at best he managed to find a doctor who would amputate it for him, and at worst he cut it off himself. At age seven. Xue Yang is INSANELY lucky to have survived to age 8 after this incident.
This is why Xiao Xingchen's suggestion that Xue Yang should have merely cut off Chang Ci'an's finger, or hand, or arm, is so upsetting to Xue Yang. Yes, the revenge he did take was abhorrent and excessive, but Xingchen totally misses the point of the story (understandable in the moment, everything is happening SO MUCH at that point).
Xue Yang, at age seven, had done nothing wrong. He was a child, he was innocent, and he didn't deserve to be treated like his life was worthless by Chang Ci'an, or the cart driver, or the message recipient, or the restaurant owner, or every observer on the street who did nothing to help. And every person who tells him it's "just a finger" further treats the very real devaluing of and threat to his life as normal and fine.
If he, any time after age 7, had been able to exact revenge by cutting off Chang Ci'an's arm, there is nothing equivalent about that revenge. A severed arm is not a crushing injury, and is less likely to produce life-long chronic pain. Chang Ci'an would have good medical care-- a doctor, medicine, pain killers. His life would not meaningfully be in danger. Chang Ci'an had family (and money) to help him with whatever tasks being one-handed made difficult. Chang Ci'an was an adult, who's already lived a life without pain and disability, and who's prospects will not be impacted. Chang Ci'an was an ADULT and therefore better able to understand what was happening and why. And beyond all of that, Chang Ci'an would DESERVE IT.
To say that Xue Yang did everything he did to the Chang Clan in revenge over "losing his finger" is to betray an utter lack of willingness to empathize with Xue Yang. Even the 7yo version of him.
And he knows it. Which is why the suggestion is so upsetting.

The Untamed - Favorite Scenes:
Episode 39 - Xue Yang’s death
🥺🥺🥺🥺💔
Remember how we said that Loid would spiral hard as he slowly came to the realization that he’s developing feelings for Yor?
Loid is spiraling hard as he slowly comes to the realization that he’s developing feelings for Yor.
Also… behold the contrast between these two scenes, 17 chapters apart.
They’re far more comfortable holding hands now. And that’s not even touching on the fact that the panels from Ch. 119 are done to put on a show, to act like a married couple is “supposed to” interact with each other, versus the panels from Ch. 136 being a societally shared understanding as to how a married couple interacts with each other.
I have… a couple of other thoughts, but Tumblr has an image limit. Not that anything has ever actually stopped me from being unhinged on main.
Consider this a warning. I will be back.
look you can't say [shakespeare character] HAS TO BE [thing] without exception in every single production, otherwise you're kind of misunderstanding why we put on these 400-year plays over and over again with different twists and modern adaptational choices each time. because theatre isn't stagnant. every actor & director chooses to focus on a different aspect of the play to highlight and draw out different messages and meanings from the same text. you can't be saying [shakespeare play] HAS TO include [this scene] or have [this interpretation] or portray something [this way] or whatever every single time without exception because WHYYYY would we be still putting them on!!! if every production of hamlet made hamlet the same age and put it in the same era and had gertrude know or not know claudius' murder and so on and so forth we would've stopped putting it on ages ago!!!! shakespeare's modern day appeal is its versatility !!!
it literally ultimately depends on what version of this story the director wants to tell this time. want to show a man lashing out and hurting others and crumbling as the catastrophic consequences of his own actions spiral his life out of control? make hamlet 30.
want to show a teenager helpless in a world of adults, powerless under his guardians but with unimaginable burden on him, trying and failing to cope with his grief as the ground spins out from under his feet? make hamlet 19.
want to show the complexity of gertrude's relationship with her son, and have her quiet complicity finally catch up to her in the last guilt-ridden effort to save her son? have her drink the poison knowingly.
want to emphasize the tragedy of the story and show the consequences of the depths claudius sank to? have her drink the poison by accident.
want to portray elsinore with an insular, suffocating atmosphere in which the rot and madness festers? cut fortinbras out.
want to emphasize the collateral damage of elsinore's deterioration on a national and international level, and leave a current of militaristic tension beneath? leave fortinbras in!
hamlet is too much of a complex and multi-layered play for ANYTHING in this show to be definitive!!! hamlet doesn't HAVE to be any age! fortinbras doesn't HAVE to be present or not present!! it's fair game as long as it makes for a good story in this iteration of it! nothing in hamlet HAS to be anything universally and i'm sick of posts claiming that it does
For all its faults Tumblr has truly ruined all other social media for me because my friends all have Instagram and are all trying to get me on Instagram more but every time I open Instagram there are like fifteen things screaming for my attention and when I get over myself long enough to start scrolling it's like. Where is my chronological dash. Where is the following-only option. Who are these people. Why are there so many videos. Everyone is screaming at me. And then before I know it I'm thirty minutes into scrolling and I haven't seen a single thing that I actually care about. At least on Tumblr when I see stuff I don't care about I know someone I follow has found a new interest.
They have been FEEDING us Twiyor recently!
(Endo what are you plotting?)

hey did you know??? that if you stop stretching and maintaining mobility in your body then it goes away?? things get tight and you can't move the way that you used to??? and when you decide to try getting a stretch routine going that the first week fucking sucks because you keep going 'damn i used to be able to do this no problem' and then you have to switch gears and be kind to yourself and just focus on getting better from here instead of berating yourself for dropping the good habits in the first place??? and your body never stops aging so you gotta keep taking care of it and sometimes you gotta take care of it extra in certain areas because of things that happened when you were younger and it's boring and sometimes hurts but it's so necessary???
i am yelling this at myself right now i am going through An Experience (trying to get into a routine of body maintenance again for my physical and mental health)
oh, Sisyphus! i got you
