He knows, with absolute certainty, that he would never be permitted access to Batman’s legacy without implicit trust. He would never be allowed to patrol Gotham, to have free rein of the city, without it. 

Allowing him access to his name, his family, was a sign of hard-earned respect. Bruce didn’t grant such permissions lightly. He was defensive; he was proud. 

Clark knows that it's an honour to be asked by his closest friend to defend his city. On Bruce’s behalf, he would answer every call or face any threat. 

Because Bruce needs him.

But with each clasp done up, the bitter truth of this simple request weighed on his shoulders: He only ever received this request when something horrible has happened to Gotham’s protector. 

Such as the times he’s been hospitalized with horrific injuries, or when he was kidnapped by the Court of Owls and subjected to their psychologically torturous labyrinth. Or, when grief had hollowed him out so completely that tearing him from bed was impossible; when the weight of his pain was too much to bear. 

Clark exhaled as he pulled the cowl over his head. He closed his eyes for a moment to find Bruce’s heartbeat amongst the others in the manor. He was relieved to find that it was strong, echoing from his bedroom above where he lay sedated, six fractures rendering him immobile.

It was an honour to don the cowl, sure.

Tim: *holding out his hand* Give me fifty bucks

Bruce: *takes out his wallet and hands 50 bucks to him* Wait, why?

Tim: *pocketing the money* You haven’t wished me happy Pride month yet

Bruce: *holding out his hand* You haven’t wished me happy Pride Month either. I’ve been out longer than you’ve been alive

Tim: *whispers* Fuck *hands him back the 50* Can’t believe I forgot you were bi too

Bruce: *hums and puts his money back in his wallet before glancing down at his phone with an evil grin* … Y’know, Clark would probably feel guilty enough to give you money

Tim: *evil grin that’s the exact same as Bruce’s* Interesting… *leaves*
