Damian looks up at the mountain before him, and clenches his fists. He grabs onto the harsh wall, clenching his fingers as tight as he can to hold on, and pulls himself off the ground.
His legs dangle helplessly above the floor, and he swallows down the fear that rises up in his throat, dragging up his second hand.
He tries, desperately, but he can't find purchase, not with the other items he is carrying with him, and he stares at them, vision blurring with tears.
Mother gave him these. They still smell like her perfume, like jasmine, and... And he misses her. Like he misses Father.
He releases his cargo, and his chest hitches as they fall by him, tumbling down to the floor.
He can find another hold, now, and pulls himself up higher.
There's a foothold, and he pushes off it, bare toes aching as he uses all his might, quickly moving up higher.
Then the mountain shifts, and his grip trembles as it moves beneath him.
He cannot help but cry, a wail tearing from him, and all of a sudden, the darkness is flooded with light, and hands are wrapping around him, pulling him up to the top of the mountain and into Father's arms.
"Oh, Damian, my baby. What's wrong?"
He hiccups a cry into Bruce's chest, shaking his head. "I— I had a n-nightmare, and I couldn't—" He breaks off to cry again, and Father holds him close to his chest, hushing him, bouncing him gently. "I couldn't get to you."
"It's okay. It's okay, my love, we'll put in some steps so you can climb up on the bed. Or I'll sleep in your room."
"I promise." Father peppers his face with kisses, and smiles, cupping his cheeks. "There is nothing I wouldn't do for you."
"Of course." Father's chuckle makes his chest feel warm, and his eyes feel hot, and he smiles, feeling his chin wobble as he points towards where he came from. "Will— will you get them then?"
"Who... Aw, chum. Did you drop your teddy?" Father shifts his grip on him, and leans down, lifting his toy, and his blanket onto the bed. "Here, son. They're here now, it's alright."
He grabs onto Teddy with both hands, holding it close, breathing in Mother's perfume as Father eases them back against the pillows.
The light cuts out, and Damian whimpers, but Father kisses his head, holding him close.
"I won't let anything happen to you, my love. You're safe."
Damian nods, and decides to go to sleep. He has Father now, all is safe.
