I think part of writing a good character is seeing them doing things that aren’t their main personality trait
Like Deadpool one may see it’s funny, chaotic, very silly, but the thing is he can be serious, at the end of the day even tho his mental illness is seen as something more to mock, it still a mental illness and can get disturbing
Part of the flanderization is forgetting that, like SpongeBob, he is silly, childis, very cheerful, but at the beginning he did knew how to put boundaries, he did acted like a young adult and not a literal child like rn, he is silly but not dumb but now the show it seems to make every frame a meme, making bob do the dumbest face and actions, it’s those acts of patience and maturity that make the character so endearing to begin with but now they turbo the adorable dork vanishing when he gets mad, he catch up on peoples feelings and surroundings or learned a life lesson
Like it’s ok to say, my character is someone noble, clumsy, who puts the rest before him, sees the good in everyone yet he is so strong. But this character needs moments where he was the jerk, he puts a boundary, learn a lesson or was too weak to make it more complete or else you are writing god/mary sue and not someone 3 dimensional
People are so contradictory all the time, even the strongest one can be vulnerable, the sweetest can get mad, the most serious person ever can laugh
The thing is people doesn’t know/want to write the characters with mistakes or thinks this contradictions are out of character so they rely on they typical dorkable messy trait, a hero who is clumsy and stutters and haha stupid them they woke up with their hair and room being a mess, but when they do something wrong the world still rewards them, they fix the problem so everything is ok now, right? They ofc never needed to learn a lesson or if they did it’s forgotten in the next chapter don’t worry
Making them the asshole of the day doesn’t means they are an asshole, yk? It’s normal for even the bestest of friends to fight once in a while or have different views, great people still have things to learn, making them learn a lesson doesn’t mean they will change their character completely, just change their perspective of a subject not their entire values
