★ Hii! This is a bit different from my usual content as this is an OC fic, but I still hope whoever reads enjoys it!
────────────୨ৎ────────────
★ Word count: 1542
ᯓ★
★ Trigger warnings: Some swearing, descriptions of injuries, character death, hurt/no comfort, murder, smoking, brief mentions of stalking and domestic abuse
ᯓ★
★ Pairings: Syc (Firends OC) x Korse (My OC)
The lamp buzzed in her ear, but the scene it now shone its light on was no longer something Syc wanted to see. She wanted to turn it off and pray that when she turned it back on, Korse would be sitting there, reading a book, or writing. But she couldn’t, she was frozen, staring at the continuously growing pool of blood spilling out onto the floorboards.
“Korse..?”
.
.
.
10 hours prior
Sunlight shone in through the blinds of the small apartment, the rays hitting Syc in the eyes with annoying precision. It was a comfortable warmth and humidity, a nice Saturday morning like any other. Birds chirping outside, city life roaring like usual. A nice smell drifted from the kitchen accompanied by a familiar humming.
White hair messy and falling in her face covering her dark eyes, button up messy and only half buttoned, her work pants still on. She looked like a glorified mess with deep heavy eyebags and dry lips that looked like the only liquid she had been drinking was cheap instant coffee.
“Fuck…”
Syc let out the curse when she sat up, not pleased with how her back was aching. That’s what you get when you decide to pull an all-nighter just for some stupid case that barely had any threads and then proceed to fall asleep on a really cheap couch.
She looked up when she heard footsteps approach the living room.
“Good morning! Finally awake? I was wondering how long you would be sleeping in!”
Korse peeked into the living room carrying a tray with freshly steeped chamomile tea and some scrambled eggs. It smelled absolutely amazing, making Syc’s mouth water like a waterfall in the Amazon. Korse placed the tray down onto the coffee table, giving Syc’s cheek a quick peck before taking a seat for herself.
“G’morning… What time is it?”
Syc yawned, too tired to care about manners, this was her place anyways. Korse took a sip from her own cup before replying.
“One PM.”
Short, sweet and simple. Just how Korse liked it. But before Syc could get lost in her girlfriend's soft voice the words she had uttered snapped her out of it.
“ONE PM??? OH GOD FUCKING DAMN IT I’M SO FUCKING LATE! Linda is going to have my head for this! Oh god oh god I missed the meeting! I’m never getting an in person job again!”
Korse looked peaceful throughout her girlfriend's panic, only stepping in once Syc stood up.
“Calm down sweet pea, I already spoke to Linda for you. Today you just have to work on that loose-ends case you were obsessing over all night.”
Syc sat down once more, suddenly feeling a weight roll off her shoulders.
“Oh, I–... Wow…. Thanks babe..”
She breathed out a sigh of relief, now more excited about working on the case. Korse smiled seeing her contentment.
“It was nothing.. Now how about I help you with some of those knots, you look so tense.”
Syc gave her a lazy smile.
“That would be wonderful.”
After the massage Syc felt so much better. The rest of the day went like usual, she took a refreshing shower, worked on the case, spent some quality time with her girlfriend, ate lunch, dinner, more work.
It was now around eleven PM, Syc was out on a walk and had stopped at the city's parks pond. A cigarette hung loosely from her lips, taking slow drags here and there.
Suddenly her phone rang, she took it out of her pocket to check the caller ID, maybe Korse needed something from the store, maybe it was Linda who had some new case.
.
.
.
Unknown
Well that’s strange, Syc thought to herself. She doesn’t usually get calls from unknown IDs, but maybe this was just someone with a new number. She decided to pick up the call out of curiosity.
“Hello, this is Syc speaking.”
.
.
.
“Long time no see, old friend…”
Syc froze, her hands now shaking. This couldn’t be, this isn’t him.
.
.
.
“Zander… You– how… How the fuck are you out of prison?!”
Syc gripped the phone harder, thoughts spiraling. The voice was so familiar, it was some psycho she had put behind bars after finally tracking him down. Six counts of first-degree murder, three counts of domestic abuse, four counts of stalking, this guy was a total nut-job!
“Eh, just cashed in a favor from an old friend, smuggled me out of there reaaaaal fast..”
He sounded so pleased with himself, that smug bastard.
“Well you won't be out for long, the doctors chipped you like a dog. You’ll be back in that cell rotting in no time.”
Syc was calming down, there was no need to worry, by now the authorities would’ve already been notified.
“Sure, sure! But before I go back, I decided to pay your pretty little girlfriend a visit… A real beauty she is, eh? I bet a the serene expression of a corpse would suit her well–”
Syc interrupted him.
“What the fuck are you gagging about??”
Her stress now returned ten fold once he mentioned Korse.
“I found your number pretty easily, your address wasn’t that hard either. Better hurry home detective, I’m not a patient man.”
Click!
.
.
.
He hung up…
“Korse… KORSE!”
Syc broke out into a sprint, her phone slipped out of her hand, but she didn’t care, Korse was in danger. The world flew past her, adrenaline carrying her forward faster than it ever had. Even when her own life had been on the line.
It did not take long for Syc to reach the apartment complex, she bolted up the stairs and spotted the familiar door. Slamming it open and taking in the sight in front of her.
.
.
.
“Korse..?”
She quickly snapped out of it and ran to her, landing harshly on her knees. She took in the sight of Korse, something she never imagined she would have to see. She gently lifted her, holding her upper body in her arms, stroking her hair like she always did during lazy mornings.
Her once bright eyes were dulled, soft lips now sullied with dried blood, neck once littered with love-bites now branded with filthy hand prints. The lower she looked the worse it got. A huge gash was now trailing across her chest, legs completely cut up. Zander had not only killed her beloved Korse, he had choked her and tortured her before eventually killing her. She had probably already been dead when he had called her.
“Oh god this is all just a nightmare… It can’t be real!”
Tears welled up in her eyes, burning as they ran down her face.
“Korse please, r-remember that ring we looked at..? The one you loved..? I-I had been saving to buy it for so long now… I was planning to propose on our anniversary trip, the one to Malasya… Korse, please…”
Her sobs were ugly, they had always been. But before all of this Korse had always been there to tell her that she was beautiful no matter what. Korse had always been kind, she had always been the love of her life. She was beautiful, from the scar over her eye to the freckles on her body. Not a single inch has Syc ever hated.
She was quickly interrupted, loud sirens blasting outside, heavy footsteps running up the stairs. Syc smiled, help had arrived!
“Hands up and step away from the body! Syc [REDACTED] you are under arrest for the murder of Korse [REDACTED]!”
What.
“No.. No no no no no! Y-you’ve got it all wrong! I didn’t kill her! I-I would never kill my own girlfriend! I love her!”
She was stunned, how could they think it was her!
“Likely story! One of your neighbors called saying she heard you. You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law.”
The rest of the words drowned out into a buzzing silence. All she could do was look at Korse’s body as they took her away.
Insanity.
Is what the court decided. A once loving girlfriend and hard working detective who lost her mind and killed her only love in a fit of rage.
Here she was, restrained, cold, lonely.
The padded room felt so mean, like every panel was judging her. Her mind was a mess, everything was a mess. She missed Korse, she would comfort her if she was here.
Syc looked up at the shadowed corner opposite of the one she was huddled in. And there, in the darkness of it all stood a very familiar figure…
Korse.
She couldn’t say anything, she couldn’t speak. It was her, but she was paler, looked emptier. And she still looked like the corpse she was left as.
Syc smiled, it was her Korse.
Her oh so beautiful korse…
A/N: Thank you so much for reading! This was something I wrote after being inspired when me and my friend (the one who made Syc) talked about a doomed AU. Planning to draw it too! ^^
Synopsis: Every January since you were little, you would dream about a field of snow, waking up cold. A/N: That concludes Apricity <3 Honestly, this has been the most difficult writing project I have done. I had such mixed feelings about the whole process where during multiple occasions i considered canceling this completely. Im so glad i managed to pull through and finally finish Apricity. Thank you so much to everyone who read, commented and supported this SMAU.

The cafe settled into a steady hum of machines and the three customers still there after lunch rush. Mydei was wiping tables in the corner while Dan Heng was cleaning the espresso machine. Out of nowhere Dan Heng's phone started buzzing like crazy, notification after notification, a non-stop onslaught of pings. He excused himself and went to the break room to check what could possibly be the cause.
He stared at the screen for a second longer, he had heard of Stelle's brother before, but he had never actually met him. He put his phone away, this time putting it on silent and leaving it in his locker. When he got out of the break room Mydei was back in the kitchen starting on a new batch of ginger snaps, Mydei looked up and gave him a quick nod before focusing on measuring flour. Dan Heng gave him a nod back before going back to cleaning the workspace behind the register.
March took a second to think before texting the group chat she had with Stelle and Caelus. She hugged the Pom-Pom plushie closer, the soft blankets that covered her bed made an amazing spot to lie on whenever she wanted to rest.
After reading Caelus' final message March sat up from her bed to go and get ready. Summers first outing with all three of them and Dan Heng's first time meeting Caelus, what could go wrong?
Caelus sat up from his weird but strangely comfortable position, his gaming chair creaking in the process. The game he was playing still showed a 'Game Over' screen, the red blaring in his face as if to mock him. He ignored the sourness creeping in from the loss and decided to text Phainon.
With the fourth member of their outing secured Caelus shot the other two a quick message before heading downstairs to check with Stelle if she was ready. On his way to the living room he passed the kitchen, he paused at the entrance and stared at the gremlin currently raiding the fridge.
"Wolfie, didn't mom tell you not to take stuff from the fridge while she was out?"
The silver haired girl looked up at him, a brownie already lodged in her mouth. She took out the brownie and stared at him.
"But you wont tell her, will you now."
That stare was all too familiar to him, how could a girl her age look so terrifying.
"Fine fine! Aeons calm down!"
He turned and walked to the living room where Stelle sat.
"Yo, you ready to go?" He leaned on the back of the couch.
Stelle looked up at him, she had changed out of her pajamas and was now wearing a white tank top and a dark grey skirt, her yellow cardigan was hanging off her shoulders as if making a statement that 'yes, it's warm outside, but I'm still wearing my favorite cardigan.'
"Yeah, you?" She gave him a once over. "Are you seriously wearing that dumb shirt?"
Caelus followed her eyes to his t-shirt.
"Hey, what's wrong with my limited edition Chimera shirt!" Caelus gave a dramatic pout.
Stelle gave him a deadpanned look. "Everything, go change I will not be seen with you in public when you're wearing that."
"Ugh fine." Caelus groaned in annoyance and begrudgingly went back up to his room to change.
────୨ৎ────
30 minutes later Caelus is sitting on the edge of the Central park fountain along with Stelle and March. Phainon arrived a minute later, to everyone's surprise he was actually dressed nicely, probably an outfit Mydei had pre-picked for him.
"Hey guys! Ready to go?" Phainon waved, his signature smile plastered on his face.
March waved back. "Hell yeah!"
"Alright then." Caelus stood up. "Let's go!"
Dan Heng had just finished serving a customer when the door to the cafe opened. In walked March followed by Stelle and── holy shit. Dan Heng froze, he didn't know what what going on, but as soon as he saw the grey haired man walk in he couldn't stop staring. He looked so cute, what the hell was going on. Was this some love at first sight bullshit? There's no way, there's just no way!
He finally snapped out of it when March addressed him.
"Hey Dannie, we're here!" She had that stupidly large smile on her face like always.
"Hey March, you guys came at a pretty good time, not many people are here right now. So, can I get you guys anything?"
March lit up. "I'll take a cherry and blueberry smoothie and a chocolate muffin please!"
Dan Heng nodded and wrote the order down. "Are you guys ordering together?"
Stelle nodded. "Yeah Phainon is paying."
That seemed to snap Phainon out of his trance. "Hey, I never agreed to pay! I'm only here to see Mydei!"
Dan Heng looked at Phainon. "Oh, Mydei? He's in the back taking a break right now. I can get him for you once everyone is done ordering."
Stelle stepped forward to order. "I'll take a peach ice tea and a caramel cookie. Caelus, what about you?"
Dan Heng's gaze went back to the other grey head, Caelus, he now knew.
"I─ uhm..." He looked nervous. "I'll just take what Stelle's having.."
"I guess I'm next and also apparently paying." Phainon looked defeated. "I'll take a matcha and a blueberry muffin."
Dan Heng wrote down the last of the order. "Alright, so a cherry and blueberry smoothie, a chocolate muffin, two peach ice teas, two caramel cookies, a matcha and a blueberry muffin."
Everyone nodded and Phainon pulled out his phone to pay, once the transaction was completed they went to sit at a table in the corner. Dan Heng started on the order immediately.
Mydei came out from the break room, his hair tied up once again.
"Need some help? Sounded like a big order." Mydei looked at Dan Heng.
"I think I'll be fine, but someone over there might need you before they melt." Dan Heng pointed to the table in the corner, and much like he said, Phainon was sitting slumped over the table looking like a kicked puppy.
"Oh my Titans.." He sighed. "I'll talk to him for a little, then I can take over. You take a break after this, okay?" Mydei didn't wait for a yes before walking over to the table, guess he didn't have a choice.
Out of the corner of his eye he could see how Phainon clung to Mydei, you could practically see his non-existent tail wagging like crazy.
Dan Heng finished the order and went over to deliver it. When he placed the drink and cookie in front of Caelus he couldn't help but look at him. What he didn't expect was for Caelus to already be looking at him, their eyes locked and held each other for a moment before Dan Heng retreated back behind the counter. He quickly cleaned up and ran to hide in the break room.
When he got to the break room he realised just how fast his heart was actually beating. He went to the bathroom and looked at himself in the mirror, his cheeks were tinted slightly pink, Aeons he looked stupid. He quickly splashed his face with cold water and went back to sit on the break rooms couch. Pulling out his phone he typed in his symptoms into Google.
The answer was something he had never ever considdered.
He had a crush. He had a crush on Caelus. He had a crush on his sisters best friends brother.
"Nanook strike me now…"
Caelus has been unusually silent the entire time they had been there. That guy, March's brother, Dan Heng. He had been the guy Caelus had seen on his way to get Stelle McDonalds. When they had first entered the cafe he noticed that Dan Heng had also looked at him a little too long. His face was so much more handsome close up, and his voice, oh god his voice. Everything about him was just picture perfect.
On their way home Stelle finally decided to address Caelus' silence.
"Yo, Cael. You've been acting strange ever since we walked into that cafe, what's up?" She looked at him like he was guilty of something.
"You remember that guy I tweeted about when I went to get your McDonalds?" That's all he needed to say.
Stelle stopped dead in her tracks, they all did. Suddenly everyone's eyes were on Caelus.
"Don't tell me..." Stelle started.
"YOU'RE CRUSHING ON MY BROTHER?!?!?" March finished.
Caelus' face burned red. "I-I don't know! No? Maybe! Like he's good looking! B-but── I don't know!" He stumbled over every word.
Phainon was just laughing, Stelle too, March was just stunned.
"You know what." March finally snapped out of her initial shock. "I'll wing man you. My brother needs someone fun in his boring life."
It was now Caelus' turn to be stunned. Had March just given her blessing for him to date her brother, and she was even going to wing man him?? "You're serious, I can date your brother?" Caelus pointed a finger to himself.
"Yes, please make him more interesting, he need some form of color in his life." March begged.
"Alright, then it's settled!" Phainon slung his arms around the other three. "Operation boyfriends begins!"
This was going to be a long summer.

24. Twilight
A/N: wc for the written section is 2.1k!!
As promised, Khaslana came to pick you up in his car. He seemed almost relieved to see you after so long, it had been quite some time since you last had time for yourselves. Besides, in that meanwhile, you both had developed some very special feelings.
Your friends had been over earlier to help you dress for the occasion. They all were rooting for you, and you had been drowning in their compliments, to be honest. You just hoped he liked the way you looked this evening as well.
Frankly, you felt a small tinge of anxiety and confusion too. For one, he asked you out despite having a girlfriend. That didn't sit right with you, and you planned on (subtly) asking about it. Was the woman you saw with him at the rink really his partner? Or was Cipher planting ideas in your head. You love your friend, really, but the idea of him having a girlfriend made your stomach twist.
“It's been way too long, I missed you.” Khaslana expressed as he opened the door for you to his car. You smiled at him, noting the slight formality to his tone and even the way he's dressed. It wasn't over the top, but it was definitely the first time you saw him without a winter coat or in figure skating attire.
“I missed you too, it's a shame you've been busy.” You replied, taking a seat and putting on the seatbelt. Khaslana took a seat in the driver's seat and started the car.
“I'm sorry about that, I should've made time in my schedule, it's been hectic, my coach has been on my ass as of late.” He admitted, turning the steering wheel as he wheeled you both out of the parking and started driving towards your destination.
“It's really no problem.” You reassured him. Really, you wouldn't want him to go out of his way to fill blanks in his already full schedule. It seemed like whatever you saw him preparing for the other day must've been planned for a while. “My coach has also been a little on me these past weeks.”
“Aren't you on break?” Khaslana frowned, eyes forward but you could clearly see the dismay in his expression.
“I am, but you know coaches, some tend to be overbearing, especially the ones that have been training you for long.” You dryly chuckled, but there was little humor. Khaslana seemed quiet for a moment before responding.
“I get that. My coach is exactly like that.”
His voice went quieter. He thought back to what Lygus said two days ago, bringing up an unfortunate memory. He didn't tell you though, knowing it would ruin your mood. But speaking of figure skating…
“[Name], how do you feel about doing pairs?” He suddenly asked, changing the topic away from the previous, admittedly disgruntling one.
You perked up at that question, your heart jolting at the sudden mention of pairs. Why was he suddenly asking you? What was he—
“Ah, I don't… know…?” You lately said, before you could overthink. You saw how his eyes briefly flickered over to you inquisitively but he didn't push much.
“Let's discuss soon, can't run out of topics now, now can we?”
You laugh slightly at the comment.
“Whatever you say.”
(...)
Dinner was wonderful.
Though Khaslana didn't bring up the pairs idea again for the duration of it, you two cycled through topics and discussions like never before. There was just so much you could talk about.
You told him some silly figure skating stories from your childhood, and he would listen intently with a smile plastered on his face.
Khaslana found you so utterly endearing to listen to.
And in exchange, you learnt a lot about him; like how he's a middle triplet with an elder one named Reaver and a younger one by the name of Phainon. He told you about them, and you could've almost melted with how gentle his expression was when he spoke of them, especially when he spoke of Phainon. You laughed each time he made a sour remark or annoyed expression when he remembered how much Reaver teases him, but you could tell he genuinely cared for both of them.
But a small part bugged you. Not a single mention of that alleged girlfriend of his. And you were getting quite impatient to know. You hated not knowing, and you feared what answer he may give if you asked him.
You tried casually bringing it up though. It was now or never, right?
“What about your girlfriend? What is she like?” You almost facepalmed at the way you worded it, because now he will know you googled him.
You hadn't even thought about how throughout the entirety of knowing you, he expressed no sign of having game (except for with you).
Khaslana paused his eating, almost dropping his fork. In fact he choked the moment the question was fully processed. He politely covered his mouth, turning away to cough a little. You panicked and raised slightly from your seat.
“Oh no, I'm sorry, it was unwarranted to ask you that, please don't feel forced to answer it if I was being rude!” You quickly told him, hands raised as if unsure on whether or to help him somehow or kill yourself from embarrassment. You were so embarrassed to cause him such a reaction. Poor Khaslana.
“No‐ it's… it's fine, [Name], I was just surprised.” He cleared his throat, face tinted a little red (not that you noticed). “Girlfriend, huh? I don't know where you got the idea that I had a girlfriend from, [Name], but uh…”
Huh?!
He seemed shy all of a sudden, averting his gaze, not sure on what to say.
Okay, pause
You stared at him, lips slightly parted in shock because you were convinced. You slowly lowered yourself back into your seat to rack your brain for any meaningful thought. You had been convinced that he had a girlfriend and you had felt this shameful jealousy these past few days because of it. How did it even start?
You felt a little silly. And stupid. Really stupid.
‘Stupid [Name]!’
You wanted to punch something. And yourself. But first you need to defend yourself from whatever the hell this was.
“Oh sorry, I must've made assumptions…” You trailed off, your excuse feeling all too weak. And honestly, it didn't matter because the weight that had been pressing down on your chest had disappeared. You felt free (it's about time you admit your feelings for him smh).
“Assumptions…?” Khaslana had to compose himself! And he tried, looking at you, seeing how you struggled to maintain eye-contact as well for a moment before schooling your expressions. “As embarrassing as it is to admit, Phainon is the one who has a girlfriend, and not me.”
“Oh wow. Um, right, sorry, I shouldn't have made assumptions, wow.”
“It's quite alright, maybe I should've communicated better… probably”
“…”
“…”
“So what's next? You're gonna admit you're not really a streamer?”
“Huh?”
Okay what the hell.
(...)
Long story short, Google lied to you (well technically it lied to your friends who proceeded to tell you the false news.) Khaslana wasn't a streamer, Phainon just used his name for the channel. And he was single, again, Google mixed Phainon and Khaslana up. Yay for you!
You both stepped out of the restaurant after eating. The sky was pitch black, but this was because of the rain clouds. The small pearlescent droplets fell from the sky. You pulled up the hood of your coat and Khaslana did the same.
“Are you still open for taking a walk?” He asked you. He looked up, cursing the weather silently for ruining this otherwise perfect day. God, he hated the rain. “Otherwise I can drop you off back home, if the rain is too much of a bother.”
You felt a pit in your stomach. You didn't want your date to end just yet. You were absolutely euphoric right now, and there was no way it could end all so suddenly.
“No, it's fine, I like the rain, let's just take a walk, we can return here for your car later.” You spoke, praying he agreed.
And because the man is a hopeless simp, he agreed. He still cursed the rain though. He was a sunshine person, not one for this doom and gloom.
“Sure.”
You both walked aimlessly down the street in comfortable silence. The sound of rain was soothing against your ears and the streets were quiet. You were a little cold though, but you tried concealing your quivering fingers inside your (not so) warm pockets.
You eyed the various shops, most of them closed except those who sold food. Khaslana did the same, keeping close to you, gaze trailing over the various tightly-knit buildings.
“Look, a shop that sells boba tea.” You pointed and his gaze followed. He stared at it in silence for a bit.
“Do you want some?” He asked, looking back down at you, and you shook your head.
“I'm way too full.”
“Yeah, me too.” There was a small pause before he spoke again. “Phainon told me this shop is a bad omen, I heard he went inside to grab their order and the next thing he knew, his lover had been abducted by your over-controlling brother. It happened right before he was going to confess to her.”
Your eyes widened and you did a double-take at the innocent store. That sounded quite horrifying.
“We better not go in there then.” You smiled nervously and Khaslana laughed.
“Yeah, can't have someone abduct you away from me, now can I?”
“That would be a problem, yes.”
Silence overtook you again. Not that you minded. As long as you could spend more time with him, you didn't mind anything.
“You're shaking a little, are you cold?” Khaslana spoke up. You met those golden eyes of his and he seemed worried. You liked how you could read his expression clearly all the time. He was like an open book, never hiding what he's feeling.
“I am, yeah…” You couldn't lie, your pockets were doing little to warm up your freezing fingers. It wasn't even that cold!
“Silly [Name], the snow just melted, you still have to wear thick clothes.” Khaslana scolded you playfully, then he got another idea. He mentally had to brace himself before asking: “May I hold your hand? It might warm you up a little.”
Your heart almost stopped. He was being so sweet. And he was hurting your heart on purpose, wasn't he? Not in a bad way, it just felt like you could explode right there.
“S-sure…” You said, quieter than expected, feeling shy over it. Your eyes drifted down to his hand outstretched to you and you interlaced your fingers with his. His hands were very warm. Like a furnace. You squeezed it, telling yourself it was because you were cold and needed the heat, not because holy shit you were holding Khaslana's hand.
You were glad that you both were wearing hoods right now, and that no one would recognize you if they saw you from any angle but upfront.
Then you remembered something.
“Hey, you said something about pairs when we were in your car earlier.” You recalled and Khaslana almost froze. Thank goodness you remembered.
“I almost forgot, thank you for reminding me, yes…” Khaslana held your hand a little tighter as he thought about how he would ask you this. “There's an ice show since it's the end of the competitive season, formally, but since the show was delayed, I was hoping you would… be open to skate with me?”
You stopped in your tracks. He did the same, not letting go of your hand.
“I saw on twitter that you already had someone though…?”
Khaslana shook his head.
“No, my coach just sparked that rumor to push me to ask you.” He sighed exasperatedly and your face felt warm all of a sudden. “He must've thought we got along well… and well…”
He looked away, nudging you along to start walking again.
“I wanted to ask you before sending the email to him. So what do you say?”
You didn't think this day could get any better. This day couldn't get any better, or you might just die from happiness.
“Yes!” You couldn't hold back your excitement, leaning closer to him. “I would love to! Yes, yes, yes!”
Khaslana felt relieved. So relieved. He could cry. He could hug you right now, honestly. He was just so glad you agreed. He no longer had to dread meeting someone new just because Lygus demanded it.
“I look forward to working with you, [Name].”

Dan Heng’s alarm is what wakes him up, the slightly annoying bells sound ringing throughout the room. He sits up and checks his phone, 07:01. He was supposed to be at the cafe around 08:30. He got up, not like he ever had any issue with getting up, nothing was keeping him there anyways.
He went through his normal morning routine, shower, get dressed, eat, brush teeth, grab his stuff, and walk out the door. Lucky for him, no one else was awake at this point. He decided to walk today, it wasn’t that far away anyways.
The walk was peaceful, not many people were out at this time seeing as it was summer.
The GPS on Dan Heng's phone shows him that he has arrived at his destination. Looking up he sees a cozy looking building, a sign above the entrance reading: "Hannah's Hobbit Hole" wow so creative... Ignoring the slightlky cringe-worthy name he enters the building. A small bell rings when he opens the door and immediately he is hit with the sweet smell of pasteries and a bitter hint of coffee. Behind the counter stood a familiar middle-aged woman, Hannah.
"Oh! Dannie you're here!" Hannah exclaimed, putting down the tray of pasteries she was holding.
"Hey auntie." Dan Heng answered back, ignoring the painful feeling of embarrassment he felt from the nickname.
All of a sudden a third voice could be heard from the back.
"Miss, where do I put the buns-" The man stops when he sees Dan Heng. Blond hair that faded to a strawberry red was tied up in a small ponytail, a braid mixed in. He was wearing the cafe uniform, but his sleeves were rolled up, revealing red tattoos that ran up his arms. "Oh, you must be the other guy miss Hannah mentioned. Nice to meet you, I'm Myd-"
"Mydeimos.. I've seen your work. My sister is quite obsessed." Dan Heng gave a friendly smile.
The man, Mydeimos, smiled back. "I see, and you're?"
"I'm Dan Heng, pleasure to meet you Mydeimos." He gave a slight nod instead of a handshake since he could tell that the blonds hands were covered in flour.
"You can just call me Mydei." Mydei put the pan filled with newly baked buns onto the table.
"Right, Mydei." Dan Heng turns back to Hannah. "Do I just put my stuff in the back?"
Hannah looked at the young man, her signature bright smile on her face. "Yep! You'll find the staff area in the back to the right of the walk-in fridge. There you can put your bag in a locker and change into uniform, find one your size."
"Got it, thanks." Dan Heng nodded and retreated into the back. Strange how the mystery second summer worker was a known man who did part-time modeling. Oh yeah, and had a famous boyfriend too. March's friend Stelle always watches that guy. 'Phai_non' or something. Honestly Dan Heng had no interest in streamers. They're loud and always sitting inside on their computers playing video games, another thing he doesn't get. He couldn't even begin to imagine what it would be like to date a streamer. Such a ridiculous thing.
He finished getting ready, walking out to start taking orders and finally start earning some money.

It had been almost a week since Dan Heng started working at the cafe. And during that time he had gotten pretty close to Mydei, the two now friends. A perk that came with working at Hannah's cafe was the free food and drinks, she could be very generous with that. A workday at the cafe was comfortable, not too loud, not too chaotic, and actually very nice. He was starting to enjoy this, and he will probably work here again next summer.
This summer couldn't get any better.
A/N: Second chapter is FINALLY out! Sorry for the long break...

"The stars are quite the sight for sore eyes tonight. Wouldn't you agree, Dan Feng?" Yingxing turned to look at his lover, a serene look on his face.
"Quite so.. Tonight they shine extra bright, it seems." Dan Feng replies, his eyes focused on the night sky above.
Yingxing thinks for a moment, now feeling slightly nervous. This thought he had had irked him for a while without fail. But tonight was too perfect to let the oppertunity pass. Jingliu was busy talking with Jing Yuan somewhere, and Baiheng was probably curled up under some tree catching sleep. And here he was, alone with his love ,under the sea of stars that decorated the night sky. But nothing could ever come close to Dan Feng's beauty.
Yingxing bit the inside of his cheek. How unbecoming for someone of his age to act like a young fool in love. He took a deep breath, fully turning to face Dan Feng. His movements caught Dan Feng's attention from the corner of his eye. He turned to face Yingxing, that familiar, but oh so gorgeous, questioning look on his face.
"Is there something on my face? You've been staring for a while now, my love.." Dan Feng teases, a small but soft smirk decorating his lips.
"Is a man not allowed to admire how gorgeous his beloved is?" Yingxing shoots back. "In all serious though.. There is something I must ask you..." Yingxing took Dan Feng's hands into his own.
"Go on, I'm listening.." Dan Heng said curiously, his voice soft and encouraging.
Yingxing knew there was no backing out now, he had started this and now he needs to finish it too. So with his new found confidense he kneeld.
"Dan Feng, my beloved. You alone are the brightest star tonight. For years have you stood by my side, first as my friend, and then as my lover. And for your companionship I am eternally endebted to you, something which I don't mind. Every moment we share is a memory I'll keep near and dear in my heart for all of eternity. An eternity which I want to spend with you."
He pauses, bringing Dan Feng's hands to his mouth, placing a soft kiss on each. "So, my love.. Will you have me by your side, for as long as the universe allows, and until death do us part?"
Dan Feng's eyes shoot up, an unfamiliar feeling blooming up in his chest. His hands trembled slightly, tears stinging behind his eyes, threatening to break loose at any given second.
"Yes.. I would love to have you. If you'll have me." Dan Feng replies, a warm smile spreading across his face.
Yingxing gets up, pulling Dan Feng into a hug, a steady hand on his lower back.
"Of course I'll have you. There's no one else I would rather have than you, my dearest Dan Feng." Yingxing finished by pulling Dan Heng in for a gentle kiss, the two melting into each other.
Two lovers bound by a vow.

"Until death do us part.. That's what you said, Yingxing..." Dan Feng rasps out to himself. The chains pull tight around his wrists, digging into his skin. "But how can death do us part now.. Even if you despise me."
The cold and damp air inside of the Shackling prison reeked of musk and sorrow. How could it have gone like this, why did it have to go like this. The downfall started with Baiheng's passing, that poor soul. But what in Long's name drove Dan Feng to commit such a sin... Oh right, he wanted to bring Baiheng back.. But everything backfired, and he ended up creating a monster. That same monster then went on to wreck Scalegorge Waterscape.
And then... Yingxing... He had helped him, and now he suffered the consequences. Cursed with immortality and stuck by mara. It shouldn't have gone this way.
"Yingxing.. My love..." Dan Feng's voice cracked up, but he couldn't care less, no one was here to hear him anyways.
"Oh, Yingxing please, please forgive my sins. You should've never been punished for this. If only you hadn't helped, maybe you would pass peacefully. Instead of being stuck with that wretched curse." Tears slowly ran down his face. "I can only begin to imagine how painful the mara is.."
────────────୨ৎ────────────
"Of five people, three must pay a price... You are one of them."
"A different name and face won't blot out your sins."
"You will know the pain of death."

Dan Heng jolts awake, sitting up straight. He was drenched with cold sweat, chest heaving for one normal breath. It was that dream again. Yingxi──... No, Blade... Blade was after him. He was never going to set foot back onto the Xianzhou. Never again.
He curled up on the bedroll, the coolness of the Astral Express archive floor seeping through the fabric, oddly comforting.

Dan Heng stares at his laptop screen, mind completely blank as the professor rambles on and on about "summer school". As if anyone was actually going to sign up for that. Well... Dan Heng might have if March didn't force him not to. What else what he supposed to do during the summer? All he ever does is read books, or go out on occasional boba runs when March wanted to. He'd even hang out with March and her best friend Stelle sometimes. But he never really enjoyed it.
He snaps out of it as soon as the sound of chairs scraping on the wooden floor rung through his ears. He got up and started packing his things, messily shoving old worksheets away. There was no point in being careful with them, Himeko would throw it away anyways when he took it home, and he didn't really need it anyways.
Outside of the classroom stood March who had been waiting for him. Her purse is decorated with pink, blue and white bows, pearl accessories, cute pins, and a shrine of Robin merch. That girl had no chill when it came to her favorite pop-star.
"Hey, you finished early?" Dan Heng approached his sister. Well, not exactly. The two were both adopted as young kids by Himeko and Welt. So they considder each other as brother and sister.
"Yep! Our prof is the best! I'm gonna miss her next year..." March looked readier than ever to get out of there.
"Already planning your escape?" Dan Heng teased with a straight face.
"Hey! I just don't like school very much! I like my freedom!" March huffed and pouted while they started walking towards the exit.

Later that day, Dan Heng was on a walk, the cool summer breeze was calming. Trees swaying calmly, almost serene. His eyes wandered, mind drifting to a few weeks prior.

Dan Heng sat in the library, in front of him sat his friend Jing Yuan. Quite the specimen he had to admit. Jing Yuan was absolutely attractive, no one in school could deny that. His locker was always full on valentines day. But he was such a lazy person, how could one man possibly be such a sloth and still attract women and men like moths to a flame.
All of a sudden his phone buzzed, causing him to snap out of his silent judgement.
Dan Heng looks up from his phone, shifting his gaze towards Jing Yuan instead.
"I got the job." He said flat, nothing more, no context.
Jing Yuan looked up, slightly confused, but still with that tired cat-like look on his face. He understood what Dan Heng had meant with his vague message only a few seconds later.
"Congrats man! Looks like you'll have something to do this summer after all." Jing Yuan smiled at him, yawned, then went back to scrolling on his phone.
And that was the end of the conversation between them.

Back in the present, Dan Heng had just arrived at the front door of the house he shared with his family. Opening the door the auroma of dinner hit him, his stomach growling at the smell alone. He took his shoes off, walking to the bathroom to wash his hands, before eventually sitting down at his usual spot at the table.
"Welcome back! Was the walk nice?" Himeko peeked out from the kitchen.
"Yeah, it was." He pauses. "Dinner smells nice."
"It sure does, doesn't it! I worked hard on this lasagna, hopefully it's good!" Himeko comes out of the kitchen with the lasagna in hand. Plates and other cutlary were already put out on the table, Welt coming to sit in his usual seat.
"Marchie! Dinner's ready!" Himeko called for the girl.
"Coming! Smells awesome!!" March's fast footsteps hurried down the stairs. She plopped into her seat, already grabbing a piece to put on her plate.
Dan Heng smiled for himself. Moments like these were peaceful, at least as peaceful you could get with March around. But it was familiar. No stress, no tests, no homework or assignments. Just him and his beloved family.
An amazing way to start the summer.
A/N: So happy to get the first chapter done!! Hope it's good!
