β Pairings: Syc (Firends OC) x Korse (My OC)
The lamp buzzed in her ear, but the scene it now shone its light on was no longer something Syc wanted to see. She wanted to turn it off and pray that when she turned it back on, Korse would be sitting there, reading a book, or writing. But she couldnβt, she was frozen, staring at the continuously growing pool of blood spilling out onto the floorboards.
βKorse..?β

10 hours prior
Sunlight shone in through the blinds of the small apartment, the rays hitting Syc in the eyes with annoying precision. It was a comfortable warmth and humidity, a nice Saturday morning like any other. Birds chirping outside, city life roaring like usual. A nice smell drifted from the kitchen accompanied by a familiar humming.
White hair messy and falling in her face covering her dark eyes, button up messy and only half buttoned, her work pants still on. She looked like a glorified mess with deep heavy eyebags and dry lips that looked like the only liquid she had been drinking was cheap instant coffee.
βFuckβ¦β
Syc let out the curse when she sat up, not pleased with how her back was aching. Thatβs what you get when you decide to pull an all-nighter just for some stupid case that barely had any threads and then proceed to fall asleep on a really cheap couch.
She looked up when she heard footsteps approach the living room.
βGood morning! Finally awake? I was wondering how long you would be sleeping in!β
Korse peeked into the living room carrying a tray with freshly steeped chamomile tea and some scrambled eggs. It smelled absolutely amazing, making Sycβs mouth water like a waterfall in the Amazon. Korse placed the tray down onto the coffee table, giving Sycβs cheek a quick peck before taking a seat for herself.
βGβmorningβ¦ What time is it?β
Syc yawned, too tired to care about manners, this was her place anyways. Korse took a sip from her own cup before replying.
βOne PM.β
Short, sweet and simple. Just how Korse liked it. But before Syc could get lost in her girlfriend's soft voice the words she had uttered snapped her out of it.
βONE PM??? OH GOD FUCKING DAMN IT IβM SO FUCKING LATE! Linda is going to have my head for this! Oh god oh god I missed the meeting! Iβm never getting an in person job again!β
Korse looked peaceful throughout her girlfriend's panic, only stepping in once Syc stood up.
βCalm down sweet pea, I already spoke to Linda for you. Today you just have to work on that loose-ends case you were obsessing over all night.β
Syc sat down once more, suddenly feeling a weight roll off her shoulders.
βOh, Iβ... Wowβ¦. Thanks babe..β
She breathed out a sigh of relief, now more excited about working on the case. Korse smiled seeing her contentment.Β
βIt was nothing.. Now how about I help you with some of those knots, you look so tense.β
Syc gave her a lazy smile.
βThat would be wonderful.β
After the massage Syc felt so much better. The rest of the day went like usual, she took a refreshing shower, worked on the case, spent some quality time with her girlfriend, ate lunch, dinner, more work.Β
It was now around eleven PM, Syc was out on a walk and had stopped at the city's parks pond. A cigarette hung loosely from her lips, taking slow drags here and there.Β
Suddenly her phone rang, she took it out of her pocket to check the caller ID, maybe Korse needed something from the store, maybe it was Linda who had some new case.
.
.
.
Unknown
Well thatβs strange, Syc thought to herself. She doesnβt usually get calls from unknown IDs, but maybe this was just someone with a new number. She decided to pick up the call out of curiosity.
βHello, this is Syc speaking.β
.
.
.
βLong time no see, old friendβ¦β
Syc froze, her hands now shaking. This couldnβt be, this isnβt him.
.
.
.
βZanderβ¦ Youβ howβ¦ How the fuck are you out of prison?!β
Syc gripped the phone harder, thoughts spiraling. The voice was so familiar, it was some psycho she had put behind bars after finally tracking him down. Six counts of first-degree murder, three counts of domestic abuse, four counts of stalking, this guy was a total nut-job!
βEh, just cashed in a favor from an old friend, smuggled me out of there reaaaaal fast..β
He sounded so pleased with himself, that smug bastard.
βWell you won't be out for long, the doctors chipped you like a dog. Youβll be back in that cell rotting in no time.βΒ
Syc was calming down, there was no need to worry, by now the authorities wouldβve already been notified.
βSure, sure! But before I go back, I decided to pay your pretty little girlfriend a visitβ¦ A real beauty she is, eh? I bet a the serene expression of a corpse would suit her wellββ
Syc interrupted him.
βWhat the fuck are you gagging about??β
Her stress now returned ten fold once he mentioned Korse.
βI found your number pretty easily, your address wasnβt that hard either. Better hurry home detective, Iβm not a patient man.β

He hung upβ¦
βKorseβ¦ KORSE!β
Syc broke out into a sprint, her phone slipped out of her hand, but she didnβt care, Korse was in danger. The world flew past her, adrenaline carrying her forward faster than it ever had. Even when her own life had been on the line.
It did not take long for Syc to reach the apartment complex, she bolted up the stairs and spotted the familiar door. Slamming it open and taking in the sight in front of her.
.

The lamp buzzed in her ear, but the scene it now shone its light on was no longer something Syc wanted to see. She wanted to turn it off and pray that when she turned it back on, Korse would be sitting there, reading a book, or writing. But she couldnβt, she was frozen, staring at the continuously growing pool of blood spilling out onto the floorboards.
βKorse..?β
She quickly snapped out of it and ran to her, landing harshly on her knees. She took in the sight of Korse, something she never imagined she would have to see. She gently lifted her, holding her upper body in her arms, stroking her hair like she always did during lazy mornings.
Her once bright eyes were dulled, soft lips now sullied with dried blood, neck once littered with love-bites now branded with filthy hand prints. The lower she looked the worse it got. A huge gash was now trailing across her chest, legs completely cut up. Zander had not only killed her beloved Korse, he had choked her and tortured her before eventually killing her. She had probably already been dead when he had called her.
βOh god this is all just a nightmareβ¦ It canβt be real!β
Tears welled up in her eyes, burning as they ran down her face.
βKorse please, r-remember that ring we looked at..? The one you loved..? I-I had been saving to buy it for so long nowβ¦ I was planning to propose on our anniversary trip, the one to Malasyaβ¦ Korse, pleaseβ¦β
Her sobs were ugly, they had always been. But before all of this Korse had always been there to tell her that she was beautiful no matter what. Korse had always been kind, she had always been the love of her life. She was beautiful, from the scar over her eye to the freckles on her body. Not a single inch has Syc ever hated.
She was quickly interrupted, loud sirens blasting outside, heavy footsteps running up the stairs. Syc smiled, help had arrived!
βHands up and step away from the body! Syc [REDACTED] you are under arrest for the murder of Korse [REDACTED]!β
What.
βNo.. No no no no no! Y-youβve got it all wrong! I didnβt kill her! I-I would never kill my own girlfriend! I love her!β
She was stunned, how could they think it was her!
βLikely story! One of your neighbors called saying she heard you. You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law.β
The rest of the words drowned out into a buzzing silence. All she could do was look at Korseβs body as they took her away.
Insanity.
Is what the court decided. A once loving girlfriend and hard working detective who lost her mind and killed her only love in a fit of rage.Β
Here she was, restrained, cold, lonely.
The padded room felt so mean, like every panel was judging her. Her mind was a mess, everything was a mess. She missed Korse, she would comfort her if she was here.
Syc looked up at the shadowed corner opposite of the one she was huddled in. And there, in the darkness of it all stood a very familiar figureβ¦
Korse.
She couldnβt say anything, she couldnβt speak. It was her, but she was paler, looked emptier. And she still looked like the corpse she was left as.
Syc smiled, it was her Korse.
Her oh so beautiful korseβ¦
A/N: Thank you so much for reading! This was something I wrote after being inspired when me and my friend (the one who made Syc) talked about a doomed AU. Planning to draw it too! ^^

i really like when people color in korse's gray coat with a purple tint. i'm a huge fan of the theory / headcanon that he used to be a killjoy, and this way, it's like he's got a little scrap of rebellious color left underneath bl/ind's grayscale. and, if you make the girl's key color orange, you get the whole rainbow if you add the fab four and i think that's fun :]
