Chapter I
Sonic stares at the sunrise, his eyes tired after staying awake all night. He’s sitting on a hemlock tree in the forest, surrounded by soothing natural noises that do not help with his exhaustion. The noises had been attempting to lull him to sleep all night, which made it difficult for him to stay alert. Today is the last day on his mission, so hopefully he would not need any sleep he didn’t get. He is Sonic afterall, what would they think if he were too ill to fight? As the sun rises over the sky, he jumps down from the branches of the tree, making it shake and drop a few hemlock needles to the ground. It’s his last day to investigate the abandoned lab that might have been used by Dr. Eggman. Investigating was never hard work, usually just prowling and taking pictures. He zoomed over, getting more quiet as he drew closer, though his quietness was useless. Eggman had caught him. They fought, and by the time Sonic had won he was exhausted.
Sonic stood over the wasteland of bots where Eggman had fled. “Wheewweee!” He exclaims. “Quite the fight! I can’t wait to get back home and take a huge nap! Maybe even get some chili dogs.” Sonic zooms to Tails’ workshop.
Sonic ignored his body telling him to stop and take a break. He’s Sonic for crying out loud, he doesn’t need breaks! As he returns to Tails’ house, his body now slightly aching, he checks up on Tails.
Tails has had a small cold all week. While not bad enough to warrant skipping any activities, he still wanted to make sure his brother was okay.
As Sonic enters the workshop, he asks,” Hey bud! How's your sniffle?” Sonic leans over Talis’ shoulder, checking on the blueprints tails was creating.
Tails sneezes before saying,” I’m alright, Sonic! I’ll be fine. You act like I’m going to die by next week!” Tails grabs a tissue and wipes his nose, smoothing his fur that was slightly ruffled from the illness. He quickly organized a few papers on the workbench. Blueprints and measurements keep his desk in a constant state of chaos.
Sonic laughs. “ Well you’re my brother, Tails, I’d hate for you to have somethin’ small and for me to miss it get bad,” Sonic replies, obviously concerned for his brother.
Tails sighs. “I’ve told you, Sonic,” the fox lectures,” A small cold is nothing for me. My immune system is strong! Now you better get away before you get a cold too.”
Sonic says,” Alright, alright, I’ll leave you to your studies. Make sure you don’t use too much brain juice though. You might need that to heal up!” Sonic walks back over to the doorway. He scratches his ear, a habit he’s had since he was a little hoglet.
Tails scoffs. “ Sonic…” he says, trying to get Sonic to leave, more concerned about Sonic than himself.
Sonic laughs, ending the conversation with,“Okay! I get it! But if you need anything please call me!” Sonic walks out of the room, heading towards the couch. He had noticed the house was a little cold, though he assumed that it was all because of Tails setting the thermostat lower. His fever must be breaking, so he probably just wanted the house colder.
Sonic woke up curled up with a soft, warm blanket. Despite the blanket’s heat, he was freezing. It felt like an ice box in the house. Sonic sat up. His head felt like his brain was a smashed apple swimming in a pool of water. Sonic rubbed his forehead before looking at his phone. He has another mission to go on with Shadow, Rouge, and Omega. He wasn’t about to cancel over a headache, so of course, he got up.
Sonic had an hour to get ready before they had to meet up, so he went to the kitchen. He wasn’t exactly hungry, but he couldn’t go on a mission with an empty stomach. Sonic stared blankly into the fridge. Nothing looked appetizing. Nothing looked delicious. He decided on a granola bar and left for the meet-up place despite how early it was. He didn’t trust himself to wake up on time if he went back to sleep, though he didn’t want to waste energy he didn’t have on running to the location, so he walked.
He barely remembered the walk there, his headache making everything around him seem irrelevant and unimportant. His head was pounding, making it almost impossible to focus on anything. Sonic wishes he had taken medication for his headache before coming, even if it concerned Tails. Shadow was also there 30 minutes early, of course.
Shadow leaned against a tree, his eyes closed. He had heard Sonic approach, which was odd since Sonic always came at the last second. Shadow opened his eyes, glared at Sonic, and then looked away, trying to remain indifferent. He was slightly confused by the silence. Usually, Sonic was eager to tell him every detail of his life, but this time, Sonic was just curled up on the ground, shivering. Shadow didn’t mind the silence, but he found it odd and concerning.

NOTES:
I know its not perfect, but it is what it is! I still have to improve lots in my narrative writing style. I hope you've liked it though!
