“what do you want to get with the leftover tickets? we can’t bring all of this home…” cyrene and hyacine were currently discussing what else to exchange the leftover tickets, and phainon, mydei and cipher were over by the mario kart machines again because cipher demanded a rematch.
out of the corner of your eye, you spotted a familiar grey-haired girl heading in your direction, dragging a tall man behind her. gulping nervously, you turned towards the two who were debating whether they could afford a gojo figure and pretended not to see them. maybe if it looked like you were busy, they wouldn’t come over…
“hi!” a cheerful voice broke through your thoughts. you let out a loud sigh in your head, turning to face the two. your first impression of the girl was that she seemed quite friendly, but also a little crazy. she seemed like the type to rummage around in trash cans.
“i’m stelle,” she introduced herself, then pointed to the friend behind her, “and this is dan heng. say hi, dan heng.”
“hello,” he said, raising his voice a little to be heard over the loud arcade games. “we’ve met before. last week, at the beach.”
“right, hi. um, i’m [name].” you mumbled, avoiding his eyes. you couldn’t meet his gaze properly for a multitude of reasons. first of all, you felt unworthy of looking at such a beautiful being. secondly, the embarrassment from that incident on the beach had come flooding back in tides at the sight of him. thirdly, you were certain that you’d become even more tongue-tied if you were to face him directly.
you tried signalling to your friends to get you out of this social interaction, but to no avail. they weren’t even looking in your direction.
thankfully, stelle didn’t let things get awkward. “i love your photocard!” she exclaimed, glancing at the new limited edition photocard you’d hung on your bag. “i like 5wirl too! is kazuha your bias?”
after giving you the chance to yap about one of your interests, you and stelle became fast friends, even exchanging socials. dan heng stood quietly behind the both of you, looking a bit awkward and out of place amidst all this idol talk.
cyrene had turned around to ask you for your opinion at some point, but upon seeing how enthusiastically you were chatting with stelle, she decided to leave you two alone. the sight of dan heng behind the both of you raised her eyebrows, but she shrugged and silently wished you luck with bagging him.
after what seemed like a decade, stelle finally remembered dan heng’s presence.
“wait! i almost forgot, i came over here for something.” she dragged dan heng closer beside her, a mischievous grin on her face. “dan heng here thought you were cute, but he was too shy to ask for your number at the beach, so i thought i’d help him out! if you don’t mind, of course.” she swiftly reached into his pocket and held out his phone to you.
you took a look at dan heng, who was the one avoiding your gaze now. apparently, the claw machines were really interesting to him.
from this angle, you could see that the poor boy’s ears were flushed red. it was incredibly cute and terrible for your heart.
“um, sure,” you said, trying not to seem too eager. seriously, a guy like him wanting your number? it was too good to be true.
still, you took the phone and typed in your number, handing it back to her. dan heng’s cheeks were now the same colour as his ears.
stelle beamed and patted dan heng on the back. “see, that wasn’t so bad, was it? thanks, [name]! i’ll see you around?”
you nodded, waving as they left. well, that turned out better than you had expected.
