Jeremy’s hair in the beginning of FINA
Because why the heck not? :)
I LOVE HIS HAIR LIKE THIS! 😍😍😍😍😍😍
🥺🥺🥺🥺 he’s so disheveled!
Actually, bf and I were talking the other day about Sherlock Holmes adaptations that immediately gave us the ick (characterization edition).
And we got onto RDJ Holmes. BF didn’t like Jude Law as Watson - he’s like 90% of the way there, but there’s Something in the Vibes that throws him off. But, he likes RDJ as Holmes.
My response was, actually, that Holmes is in the 80-90s as well for me, but what turned me off for HIM was the dinner scene with Mary. Because he didn’t clean up well enough.
In Canon, Watson describes Holmes as cat-like and meticulous in his personal grooming, but disastrous with his papers. The man is Put Together in public. He knows how to clean up for the opera or for a fancy dinner. One of my favorite things about Granada Holmes is how well they NAIL Holmes’s Public persona vs his private persona. So the dressing down, the floofy hair, the Mess and the black moods - those are private. Those are only for Watson and Mrs. Hudson - and us, through Watson - to see. Outside of Baker Street, if he is appearing as himself and not a disguise, he’s immaculate. He’s put together. He’s SERVING CUNT.
I think that’s what’s striking about him in FINA. We see him tired and RUMPLED and mentally rattled and it feels Serious.
He didn’t just… show up to dinner looking wrinkled.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THIS IS WHAT I’M ALWAYS THINKING BUT COULD NEVER PUT INTO WORDS. It’s also something that kind of annoys me about Sherlock & co fan designs. They always make him so scruffy….I can’t imagine any accurate version of Holmes liking the feeling of his hair falling in his face either.
the way they stand after this guy produces what is around $40k in modern USD gets me every time. watson looks like he’s gonna puke and holmes look like his ears started ringing. if watson could say ‘what the fuck’ he would’ve
I love the way they did it because it's such a natural reaction. Yes yes Holmes later has the luxury not to take money from clients who can't afford it, but he DOES make the rich pay handsomely. (I guess that's what enables him to take cases for fun or to help to begin with.) But let's not forget that Holmes and Watson initially moved in together because they couldn't afford the rent on their own. And now this guy is throwing 40 k at them. If that isn't a reason to throw up or faint idk. XD
i can tell i’m sleep deprived bc i just made myself cry about tutankhamun and i have, like, negative interest in the kid
have now made the rest of the discord cry about this little boy who had multi-coloured ducks sewn onto a tunic that he loved so much he wore it to a Very Important Event because he was EIGHT and have you SEEN my DUCKS
sorry no i’m not done i’m gonna make you all cry some more i’m bringing you down with me
there was once a little boy.
he is born disabled. his body hurts, and he can’t walk properly the way the other children do. he doesn’t understand why. he’s a little boy. but he plays with wooden boats and pulls toys on a string.
somebody makes him a tunic. they sew ducks onto it in red and green and yellow and blue. the bright colours of a child.
the little boy is eight years old, and he’s going to be king now. there’s a big ceremony about it. he doesn’t really fully understand what’s going on, because he’s eight, but he wears the tunic with the brightly coloured ducks for the occasion because he loves it. look at his ducks! aren’t they great?
he is a child. the adults around him manipulate and coax him to gain more power for themselves. he still plays with toys.
as a teenager, not yet an adult, he fathers children. they do not survive. he’s not even old enough to have full agency in his job and is still being manipulated, but he had babies and they died.
he does not make it to his twenties. at eighteen or nineteen years old he dies, and is buried. his babies, so tiny, are buried with him.
and so is his tunic with the little ducks that he loved so much he kept it long after it no longer fit.
there was once a little boy.
yeah i think that like. especially with historical figures in your mind people who were kings and queens or important nobles were adults. even if you know how old they were it doesn’t really click. it doesn’t seem real
but then you get something like a little tunic with brightly coloured ducks on it and it hits you like a fucking truck that this really was a little kid and no matter how far removed you are a little kid is still a little kid. their brains didn’t develop any quicker back then. he was just as developed/mature mentally as any 8 year old now. he had cartoonish animals on his clothes and he played with toy boats and probably terrorised the local cat population.
tutankhamun was a child and he didn’t make it to adulthood because he was unfortunate enough to be a very important child
his dad died when he was 8. he saw his own babies die when he was still just a boy himself.
but he had brightly coloured little ducks on his favourite shirt, and he kept it.
and he did not just keep the duckie shirt either
tutankhamun had a little pair of sandals with ducks on them. he had earrings decorated with ducks. he kept those, and other items of childhood clothing. some toys. keepsakes. things he loved, and treasured. he kept them all in a little wooden chest. the chest… was carved with ducks.
and that little duck chest, filled with things he kept from his childhood, was buried with him. maybe he was keeping them for the little babies who did not make it. maybe they just reminded him of good days and fun times.
but he was a little boy who thought ducks were just the best
WITH PLEASURE
(greyscale makes it hard but the duck head is on the right above the toe strap. always takes me a while to find it too)
Ok but this is how to teach history. This is how you get people to pay attention, to care. Find something small and make it personal, then zoom out to the wider context. History is best taught as a story, with people who lived their lives in ways that came together to create something remarkable that we still talk about today, but who were still just human at the end of the day. They kissed, argued, cried, and dreamed just like we do. And sometimes they really liked ducks.
unfortunately i dont think its queerbaiting if the creator is just so terminally heterosexual that they never remotely considered the same gender relationship their show is centered around could be read as romantic. it is deeply painful however.
Maybe accidental queer baiting? The way someone may not mean to say something rude, but it may come off rude, so it's rude. Frustrating either way.
Not being a dick, just a friendly clarification.
By definition you can't accidentally queerbait. Queerbaiting is specifically using a same sex pair from the show to market the show to queer audiences with no intention of ever following through on a romantic relationship.
There is officially licensed Destiel merch signed off on by Kripke. Teen Wolf had a commercial with the actors for Derek and Stiles draped over each other talking about being "on a ship." Both shows actively used scenes between them as marketing while actively mocking fans for wanting them together. Sherlock has multiple characters refer to Johnlock as a couple, including characters we're supposed to believe are never wrong about human behavior and pushed those scenes in marketing. Then they acted insulted when fans saw them as a couple.
That's queerbaiting.
Done on accident it would just be queer subtext. Done because they had no other choice due to censorship is queer coding.
The specific meaning of the word is really starting to get lost and it's a pretty important one to keep accurate. It describes a very specific phenomenon that was done repeatedly and maliciously for decades and is meant to examine that specifically.
Doing it on accident sucks, but it isn't a tactic of capitalism intentionally intended to suppress queer representation while making money from queer fans.
Reblogging to keep the accurate definition and examples of queerbaiting circulating in the world

I'm kind of glad to hear that everyone does this. Because it means it isn't colonizer bullshit, it's what everyone does. It's just people discovering new things. Everyone goes:
"Oh hey these people have their own style of [language A's word for thing. Say, what do you call it?"
"Oh it's [language B's word for thing]."
"Got it, it's [language B's word for thing] variety [language A's word for thing]"
added to which it is LITERALLY JUST LINGUISTIC SHORTHAND for
[item] the way [culture] makes it.
If you don’t want sliced bread, you want bread the way Eastern Indians make it you ask for Roti, not bread. Because Roti is bread THE WAY [EASTERN] INDIANS MAKE IT. Like fuck, it’s not that complicated a concept.
OF COURSE it’s not colonizer bullshit! It’s just linguistic shorthand!
Rich people are literally just lying about being good at money btw
Things like overdraft fees, late fees, parking tickets, fines, subscription renewals, legal fees, penalty fees, sales and discounts, lawsuits - these are things that all cease to matter in any material way once you have enough money
To Jeff Bezos, a parking meter, a plane ticket, and a private jet all effectively cost the same amount of money: none
#exactly and this is the definition of “rich” that makes sense to use when comma eating the#it's not people who have a savings account it's people who have shell companies#and barely notice when they lose more in a day than you'll make in your life#it's not people with employees they're responsible for; it's people with employees they think of as commodities#people for whom a fine isn't a punishment but something to be worked into the budget#people for whom “acceptable losses” includes how many people can die before it interferes with profits

Money in your savings account is something everyone should have.
The fact that not everyone has money and a savings account is the result of violence, deprivation, and the deliberate decisions made by the less than 100 people who own half of the world's money
Millions in a secret savings account in the Cayman Islands, though? That's a very different story.

minos was such a pussy. if my wife gave birth to an epic minotaur baby i wouldn't have locked him in a labyrinth. i would have taken him to the mcdonalds play place (athens) every day and let him eat as many stray mcnuggets (athenians) off the floor as he wanted. i love you hungry son
(pulling a painted vase out of my wallet) and this is my youngest at his first nose ring fitting. isn't he handsome
