Ao3 author spotlight: @somethinglikesawyer!
if you've spoken to me for any period of time you already know that Pull Me to the Ground is my favourite KPDH fic for reasons i'll go into in a minute, but let me make it clear that somethinglikesawyer has multiple fics that are juat as incredible, and they have a downright impressive range for what they can do with words.
i'll also pause to be sappy and say that they're a genuine sweetheart, super friendly and approachable even if they writhe like a bug when i compliment them directly. even though when we first met it was because i wouldn't shut up about their fic (i did not know they were the author at the time) they still said "oh i like this weird little creature and i'm gonna keep talking to them"

Two women step in when a guy gets pushy with Rumi at a bar. What happens after is meant to be a one-night stand, nothing more.
But rarely do things turn out exactly the way they're meant to.
i have to start with this one. i know i've already recommended it once but it needs to be recommended a thousand times. the premise sounds like it'll just be a fun smut fic (and it is that, too!) but it has so much depth and care put into it.
there's a wonderful analysis by @lillowing (also you should check out her other analysis posts) on how consent is handled, particularly in the first chapter of the fic, here (with bonus comments from the author!). it can be hard to include explicit consent in a way that doesn't feel unnatural or slow down the pacing of the fic, but Silver absolutely nails it.
i mentioned it before but the patterns allegory being chronic pain is a stroke of genius. it fits Rumi perfectly, and her keeping it a secret from Mira and Zoey is actually something that impacts them given the style of scene they do. it's handled so, so respectfully throughout while still allowing Rumi to be a flawed and somewhat frustrating person.
and it's not just Rumi who gets excellent characterisation! i adore how Mira and Zoey are written in this fic. there's a great deal of thought put into their relationship and why they picked up Rumi, and the depth of their characters shows through in, of all things, the different ways they brat tame Rumi. it isn't just "this would be fun to write", it makes sense for the characters and their relationship with each other and Rumi.
final point on this fic, i swear. the reread value of the first chapter especially is fantastic. all the little looks and comments shared between Mira and Zoey that didn't make sense to Rumi make so much sense to the reader on a second read.
truly one of the best fics in the fandom.

Demons, even half, are immortal. Humans, less so.
and now for something on the complete other end of the spectrum. it took me multiple attempts to read this fic because the premise alone made me tear up, and when i finally got the courage to read it i was an absolute mess. i was ugly sobbing. i was crying so hard my chest hurt.
it's absolutely beautifully written. the amount of thought that went into what it's like to lose people and the things we keep is incredible, and it only serves to make it more devastating. the relief of their souls being reincarnated is short-lived because it's only sort of them.
i'm getting upset just thinking about it so there's less i can say, but this is one hell of a narrative haunting. i can't recommend it enough, but get some tissues and prepare yourself for the most gentle rending of your heart you've ever experienced.
sky's the limit [T] [Rumira] [Complete]
Rumi’s been looking forward to her birthday gift — an interactive and educational raptor-meeting experience known as a ‘hawk walk’ — for months. Too bad Celine is sick and can’t go, and that it’s just her. Her and one really, really hot falconer.
a delightful oneshot of Rumi being down bad for Mira. like embarrassingly bad. like putting my face in my hands bad. but it's okay because Mira is down just as embarrassingly bad!
it's silly and soft and fluffy, and there's an extraordinary amount of bird puns. it's also a very well researched fic! so if you like birds, you'll definitely like this. they're just so useless, in the best way.

Mira has a sneaking suspicion about something one of her girlfriends might enjoy.
it's petplay. the thing is petplay. read at your own risk if you aren't interested in adding a new kink to your repertoire because any smut Silver writes is gonna be incredible and brain altering, and this is no exception.
despite that it's still extremely well characterised, which is hard for a lot of people to do when it shifts into heavier kink like this. at no point does it stop feeling like Mira, Zoey, and Rumi, even when they're in different headspaces.

okay so there's a lot less i can say about this one because it contains spoilers for so we were liars by @arendellesfirstwinter as it's a companion piece that takes place at the start of chapter 7.
with that said, if you have read up to that point of so we were liars (and you should, by the way) and you have an Ao3 account (it's a locked fic) i highly, highly recommend this. it's so beautifully written, and it slots into chapter 7 perfectly.

After Celine refuses to kill her, Rumi asks Mira and Zoey instead.
i love any fic that takes a look at Rumi's emotional state at the tree and puts it under a magnifying glass, and this does it perfectly. Mira and Zoey are so soft and gentle with her while she's going through the worst night of her life, and even while Rumi is doubting they love her there's no room for you as the reader to share that same doubt. it's so extremely clear in their words and actions, even with Rumi's fear and hurt clouding them.
it's kind of hard to believe this is Silver's first kpdh fic. as always, it's perfectly characterised and beautifully written.
i really can't express enough how talented Silver is and how much they have something for everyone here. i am on my hands and knees begging you to read their fics. an absolute masterclass in characterisation.
if they kill me for making this post know that it was worth it and i'm not sorry
