Hi Dremnec I was the anon on the Prince post that you reblogged. It hurt to get called out like that cause I love their work and I was not trying to be a negative in any way towards them but you are right. I didn't really think about how that could negatively impact Prince (and creators) and I will try to do better! Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
Hey anon, thanks for messaging! No shade at all to you, I know you meant well with it. I said it in the tags I think, but it's also not a 'you' thing, it just happened to align with behaviours I've been seeing more of recently.
I spend most of my time in creative circles, and have for a long while. And at a certain point the patterns really jump out. I think the unifying factor is what I'd call misguided compliments. Comments made by people who are excited about the content, but the message doesn't quite land, and ends up with the creator feeling hurt or disappointed with the reaction. Some examples of things I've seen creators get upset by multiple times:
Expressing strong reactions that weren't intended by the creator β so, for example, finding something serious funny/goofy; or crashing out about something that was intended to be light and fluffy. Obviously having these reactions can't be helped, but it can make that creator question why they failed to illicit the reception they intended.
Self deprecating, or implying the work is SO GOOD that it makes them feel insecure about their own creations. It never feels good to know your creative work is making someone feel bad, for any reason!
Putting down other creators/works, like "This is sooo much better than XYZ" or "Normally I hate this genre, but yours is the good one". Most of the time people writing a genre/trope also love consuming it, so you're kinda insulting their taste, as well as shading people who are their friends and peers
Pestering/pressuring for updates β I totally get it, I know there's tons of works I am absolutely chewing the walls to read more of. There's just a very fine line between expressing excitement and making a demand, which leaves a sour taste, and can suck the fun out of creating
Comparing to other works. Occasionally, this can be a huge compliment. But unless you know the author likes/admires that work, then this can very easily backfire. Comparisons can rub up on insecurities, make the creator feel like the work was misunderstood, or imply the work isn't being original (or at worst, derivative).
Again, these are comments that are almost always made in good faith, but a hint of negativity can entirely overshadow any positive message.
This isn't a demand or a callout by any means. Only a nudge to remember that sharing creative work can feel very vulnerable, and that we can all stand to think a little more about how sentiments might come across.
Creators are the lifeblood of fandom, and when they feel understood and supported, the community will thrive!
Do you take commissions?
Hellooo, sorry afraid not. But thanks for thinking of me!
Hello! Iβm currently in desperate need of some good rumira AU fics (preferably multi-chapters) and youβve always got lovely recs! Do you have any favs youβd like to pass along? :)
Hellooo yes I absolutely do, but I'm also very indecisive so this was tough. There's several Rumira authors where I just want to recommend their whole oeuvre, so I'm just gonna point you at them and you can see what takes your fancy.
Practice what I preach β fic
Monastery AU with priest Mira being unfairly hot
β
Ovenglovee β author
I'd especially recommend Bloodhound for being easily the best Mira character study I've ever seen
β
Wholetthishappen β author
Ahh, it's impossible to choose, but given your criteria I'd especially recommend Smoke Signals (firefighter Mira). And Once Upon a December (Anastasia AU)
β
Bar is low ( & raising the bar) β fic
Omegaverse fake dating. I can't recommend this highly enough, I am actively holding back from yapping about it at all times
β
Always you, marked with time β fic
Omegaverse multichap, but told as snapshots throughout several years of their relationship. Very sweet and unique
β
Ambii β author
Very sweet and fluffy romcom vibes, especially The Kitchen Is On Fire
β
Fabargent β author
A few AU longfics with rival Rumira, but I'd especially recommend the oneshots The Ex in Exorcist, and The Bride At My Door
β
Pterafractal β author
Soooo many juicy oneshots and longfics. But special callout to It's Hard Being Casual, and Peaches
β
Noxcounterspell β author
Plentyyy to go at here, but I'd particularly recommend Build Me Up (omegaverse), and Script Of A First Kiss, which is a perfect fluffy oneshot
β
MooseyMN β author
A few ongoing fics, but I'd especially call out the (long) oneshot My Feral Prince (omegaverse)
β
Fast car β fic
Electrician Mira being unfairlyyyyy hot
β
I Can't Hear You (But Can I Sense You) β fic
Hedanox has a whole bunch of works on my TBR but I found this one a very sweet portrayal of deaf Rumi and her experiences

Sometimes, fanfiction is carefully plotted out stories, with plot points and call backs and themes that all tie it up in a meaningful and exciting way.
And sometimes fanfiction is, βWatch me do a fucking KICK FLIP off this cool sentence!! Also here's some sex'
Both are beautiful forms of writing.
βCan I get to know you, Mira-nim?β
aka one of miraβs many kdrama moments in wolfish behavior by @kayr0ss. timelapse under the cut!
I GOT A SWORD!!!!! DEPRESSION WHO? NOT ME. NOT EVERAGAIN. SWORD!!!!!!! SWORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SWOOOOOOORD!!!!!!!
ANXIETY? FUCK OFF. IVE GOT A SWORD
i forgot how incredibly funny (and extremely gay) the rumira grocery store meet-cute was from wolfish ch 3
in your reblog about bug obsessed rumi you mentioned βwhos bug ficβ where rumira are bug nerds. i donβt recognise this fic. could you please drop the link? x
Sure thing :)

Bug autism Rumi is so wildly important to me.
Yes she loves learning and collecting information and everyone thinks she just thinks bugs are cute. The joke? She doesnt. Shes actually a little scared of them. But as a young child a mantis and her almost killed each other and she realized they are just as scared as her. Worse, probably, because she can kill them and what could they do back? Sting her maybe?
No, rumi loves bugs because she feels extremely connected to them. People like the pretty ones but even those get harmed if they fly too close. She looks at the utter disgust pointed towards them and can only think βthat will be me somedayβ and so it goes. She has threatened random staff for trying to smash spiders. She begs Mira to collect anything that makes it into the penthouse and put it on her plants outside. She cried once so pathetically zoey joined in because there was a dead dragonfly trapped in the shower in some random hotel.
Rumi smiles and fake laughs and plays along with all the jokes about her bug obsession when she cant even be the one to catch spiders that come inside. The girls get her a pet millipede, mostly because they think she needs something to pay attention to that isnt her email inbox. It takes her Months to actually pick it up the first time and suddenly shes realizing that maybe her phobia was more self imposed than anything else.
Rumi vs self accusation but she only hits that point because some random twitter user says her pet millipede (whos named Haru) should be killed and she gets banned from the internet for three weeks because she tweets back his ip address. Rumi being forced to realize that shes so emotionally attached to bugs as a whole because she viewed herself as that trapped dragonfly that died terrified in a random shower. Rumi trying to explain this to the girls who only tease her a little bit and otherwise cuddle her despite mira asking if she needs to get cupped (which becomes the default way to ask if shes anxious)
Anyway someone take her millipede away because shes got the poor thing in her pocket AGAIN
Been seeing a number of things recently in fandom on tumblr that have bothered me, so I wanted to shout a couple quick thoughts as a fandom creator who stumbled into a large readerbase:
Please think about what fandom creators can see. If you post something online publicly, there is a likelihood they can and will see it! Fandom creators are not the same as professional creators. We occupy the same tight-knit community online, nerding out the exact same way as our peers! I really don't care what you have to say about my fics, and certainly don't expect everyone out there who reads them to enjoy them, but don't TELL me ajdfkls - do it in private please!
Please think about the intent behind what you're saying publicly for fandom creators to see. Speaking personally, I love seeing people theorize and talk about my own works (shoutout to a lovely shark friend of mine <3)! That being said, I'm also fiercely protective of my versions of these characters, and get genuinely disheartened if someone reads and declares malintent into characters that I love. Those takes have been thankfully rather self-contained (and none public beyond ao3 comments sections), but I can't express how sad and discouraged I'd be if they spread and convinced others that that was the story I was telling, let alone if they'd spread while I was actively writing the fic.
It stings. We see these comments and takes, and some I still think about months later, wondering if there's any other way I could've made my narrative and my love for the characters within it clearer.
Fandom creators and fandom enjoyers: all of us are here to have fun together and are doing this for free - all we ask is that you please be respectful of that. <3
(mild spoilers for wb chapter 2-4) hi uhhh i don't know what to say other than i love wolfish behavior the polytrix werewolf romcom written by @kayr0ss and extensively illustrated by me πΊπ©ΊπΈ
(Wolfish Behavior chapter 4 spoilers)
"Have you not been held like this before?" ... ... ... "Does she not hold you?"
the vision for the first meeting of mira and werewolf rumi muri were beamed into my brain from the moment @kayr0ss showed me the early outline for the chapter. so I immediately drew this, showed kay, and then she turned around and wrote so much tenderness and vulnerability into the scene inspired by these three simple panels :')))

Do you imagine Rumi and Mira having a more competitive conflicting relationship when they started training together pre-movie?
honestly, i'm kind of middle of the road on this. the most intriguing relationship for them during training (to me) is them not really speaking very much to each other so neither of them knows where the other one stands. both closed off in different ways.
but i also really *really* enjoy seeing/reading them having a more competitive nature during trainee days.
i think i have spent more time thinking about zoey/rumi dynamics and zoey/mira dynamics than i have rumi/mira because those are more fun for me to explore (and i'm a bit partial to not having zoey always be the sweet, kind, shy mediator).
oh wait. please disregard all of the above, i have been told that the answer to this question is "yes" by @dremenec. so - yes!
So, I lurk in some writer subreddits, and a frequent topic of discussion is prose: what constitutes good prose, how do you write it, how do you improve it, etc. And yesterday I stumbled across one topic about the difference between good descriptive prose, and purple prose. OP asks people to share some of their favourite authors who they think write beautiful prose without tipping into purple. No problem; people are happy to oblige.
One person says that Steinbeck is one of their favourite authors for prose, and then they share an example of what they would consider purple prose. It is so violetly awful that I think the poster must have written it themselves as a kind of parody of purple prose. Other people assumed the same.
But as it turns out, they are quoting from a book written by a YouTuber whose channel ia dedicated to talking about writing (namely, their own writing, which is genius, but often not comprehensible to the drooling plebs).
Naturally, I read the free sample of their book in awe and horror, and I'd like to share some screenshots with you. If you also have trouble defining or understanding what purple prose is, it's this.
Yes, every single fucking page is written like this.
Reading some more of the preview for this book, and I realise this is by far not the biggest problem, but I'm begging this guy to just use 'shadow' instead of 'umbra'. I promise I will not accuse you of being a philistine.
'Noctilucent orbs'. Even fanfic written by a 14-year-old wouldn't dare.
The author is a man in his 30s, btw.
