Fluoroquinolones are a family of antibiotics used to treat bacterial infections, including ciprofloxacin (Cipro), gemifloxacin (Factive), levofloxacin (Levaquin), moxiflaxen (Avelox), ofloxacin (Floxin), norfloxacin (Noroxin).

They have been linked by the FDA to increased risks in tendon rupture, nerve damage, and aortic ruptures, along with various other types of joint, nervous system, and cardiovascular side effects, which can all be permanent and disabling.

If you have EDS these should ONLY ever be taken if there are no other options, and only in treatment of serious infections, as our risks for these are already increased by our faulty collagen. If you have EDS (or a similar connective tissue disorder), or know someone who does, please share so this can become more common knowledge.

So I saw my pain specialist today and while he was pulling up my medical history he was looking at a pelvis MRI from 2017 and asked if I had been in a car wreck. I had 3 healed fractures on the right hip (from the first hip surgery) and a few healing ones (stress fractures from a fall afterwards), that can all be explained. But I had multiple fresh breaks in the left hip. Meaning at some point in 2017 I broke the living fuck out of my left hip and St. Francis found it on their imaging, even wrote up a nice report about it, and then told me that everything came back fine and never mentioned my bones were fucking broken?? Like what in the holy fuck?

So, including the most recent PAO, my left hip has been broken in about 8 spots. WHATTHEFUCK.

So, PSA: always ask for copies of your radiology reports, I guess?

*UPDATE: it went really well, got referrals for a new pain specialist, rheumatologist, and allergist. I got really lucky and had a great team of doctors while I was in Arizona, so hopefully that streak continues. Either way I found myself a damn good primary and that's half the battle.
