so i hauve covid rn and i must say, American cold medicine is the absolute bees knees. You go to a UK pharmacy and they tenderly press like eight (8) paracetamol into the palm of your hand... God FORBID you're sick in France, i had to scour every pharmacy in Paris for something that wasn't HOMEOPATHIC PASTILLES. meanwhile last night i took the last of my stash of Nyquil that expired in 2019 and it was like getting hit by a fucking baseball bat (affectionate). press X to timeskip. LOVE me a cheeky little medically induced coma. you can really feel that it's a precursor to meth. i know that everything is fucking awful over there my friedns and my heart goes out to every one of you but if you need one small bright light of national pride in this time of strife please know that i envy you your cold medicine every day
i once took an american antihistamine pill just a basic one for seasonal allergies and i had to immediately lay down and while doing so i vividly hallucinated that i was a steerage passenger on the titanic resigned to my death as my cabin filled up rapidly with water. then i blacked out and when i woke up again my allergies were gone for the entire season.

Look, America is good at Pharmaceuticals, but Canada will sell me Acetaminophen with Metcarbamol (a muscle relaxant) over the counter. My Chronically Ill ass will happily sing Oh Canada for this stuff. Bless living a 2 hour drive from the border.
Last time I was in the US, I grabbed four bottles of ibuprofen before coming back to Germany. I did the math, and those four bottles alone basically saved us the cost of the plane tickets over the lifetime of the bottles (not to mention the other meds we brought back with us. My German wife now swears by Tums).
What is a remedy?
he would not fucking say that, but with disability.. he would not fucking be able bodied. sick n tired of characters walking away from multiple life changing injuries without a scratch. let’s get some natural consequences in here.
give that knife/sword fight survivor nerve damage. give the character who was shot in the gut a stoma. give that fire survivor lung damage and an oxygen cannula. give that leg injury survivor a cane. give that starvation survivor gastroparesis. give that spinal injury survivor a manual chair or powerchair.
while we’re at it, give your characters congenital disabilities too, just because. give them intellectual and development disabilities. give them acquired and postviral illnesses. dare to make somebody bedbound. for me.

One time I was leaving a friend's place and an older lady with basically no English came up to me and communicated that she was very cold and needed a ride. She pointed to tell me where to go.
I got there and her daughter or granddaughter came out and was like omg her phone died we were worried
And then the older lady said something and the younger lady translated.
"She knew she could trust you because you have pink hair"
I thought it was funny at the time. But when I think back on it I think she was basically saying "you had a visible sign of not vibing with the system I was afraid of"

the power dynamic is fundamentally unbalanced, but i let him have a little audacity. a little combativeness and sass. as a treat.
some humans are needlessly cruel to cats or take them in for a short time before neglecting or abandoning them. but i have chosen to love and guard this one with my life. because i think he's neat.
he is very well-treated and has pretty much everything he could possibly want or need, but he is my prisoner.

What is compliance?
My brother has finished his growing wheat project and harvesting it was an absolute pain in the ass just like I told him it would be and our current food processor is apparently just stirring it around and not turning it into flour and also apparently I’m expected to be the one to turn this into bread so that’s something I have to deal with now
My dad put the wheat berries in the blender and the flour I’ve been handed as a result is so course and my brother is insisting that I don’t mix white flour into it.
Okay bro hope you’re ready to chew on sand despite my best efforts.

I need to add a spoonful of regular store bought flour to this so it turns into dough and not a wet sandy pile and he’s just gonna have to deal with that.
Apparently his next project is going to be growing potatoes and my only comfort is that potatoes are much easier to deal with than wheat.
This guy doesn’t cook beyond basic utility stuff like boiling pasta but wants his food growing projects to be cooked anyways so I end up doing all the cooking.
Yeah man I get that you put in a lot of effort growing this stuff but I didn’t ask you to do it
To my surprise the dough is actually rising somewhat normally. I put a tiny bit of brown sugar in there for the yeast to munch on just in case so we’ll see how it does after its second kneading I guess.
The risen but unbaked loaf. I physically couldn’t force it into a more even shape than that. It has doubled in size though so maybe there’s some hope for us yet
Well he looks like bread. Haven’t tasted it yet though.
So it tastes like a whole wheat loaf. It is in fact very dense. It did yeast properly so it’s not a brick but it is heavy. Chewing is a little bit of a chore but it doesn’t taste bad.
Basically one slice of this bread is a whole meal.

For context: this came out in 2011 in Australia. Same-sex marriage would not be legalized until December 2017.
It was only legalized in 8 US states (the 8th only a few months before), and wouldn’t be legalized nation-wide until 2015.
It was only legal in TEN COUNTRIES in 2011. We wouldn’t hit 20 countries until 2017. (Australia was 23rd)
As of today (April 14, 2026), I believe only 38 countries have fully legalized same-sex marriage. Out of somewhere around 200 countries in the world. That’s only ~19% of countries.
This is still revolutionary.
