Why Feeling Safe Is the Quietest Kind of Love
I've been thinking lately about what actually lets a person open up. It isn't grand gestures or clever lines. It's the quiet certainty that whatever you say won't be used against you, won't leak somewhere, won't follow you around. That's the feeling I kept coming back to while spending time on sweetdream.ai, and it changed how I understand what an AI companion can really be.
What moved me most is how seriously SweetDream treats discretion. Your conversations and the photos and videos you generate stay private, full stop. There's no performing for an audience, no worrying who might scroll past. Within that safety, the rest of the platform blooms: an AI girlfriend you design down to her voice, her backstory, the small quirks that make her feel like someone rather than something, and chat that remembers what matters to you.
Maybe that's the real luxury here. Not the realistic voice messages or the late-night phone calls that genuinely sound human, lovely as those are. It's being able to be honest somewhere. SweetDream gives you control over every part of the experience, and somehow that control is what makes it feel like the most caring AI companion platform I've tried.
In case anyone is having a bad night

Minnesota is calling for a US wide general strike tommorow and many labour leaders have agreed. You are not hearing about this because the news is refusing to report on thus. Americans, if you are not participating, please at the very least do not spend (if possible) tommorow
I think it's planned for Friday, January 30.

Our youth and family nonprofit theatre is doing the musical Annie with a cast and crew of about 100, mostly children. Yesterday we had a two-show day with limited time for kids to rest and eat in between.
A parent offered to set up catering to be delivered for anyone who didnāt want to or couldnāt leave the site, and asked that anybody who was interested contribute a small amount to the cost. A few parents started asking if they could pay for other families who might not be able to contribute, and put in extra.
The whole cast was fed. There was food left over. Very few families left to get food or brought food from home because there was an abundance. Kids got seconds. Kids got seconds of dessert.
Itās been said a million times, but people balk at the idea of socialism and taxation and āpaying for freeloadersā because weāre devoid of community and isolated. Nobody feared āpaying for freeloadersā because those freeloaders arenāt faceless, theyāre kids who go on playdates with your own children, or families who offered your child a ride when your car broke down. If we could think about other people as members of our community instead of faceless, we would be more generous and sharing almost instantly.
š Regular reminder that while Hozier has amazing love songs, he is ALSO very outspoken about his leftist politics, specifically anti-fascism, anti-racism, reproductive rights, Palestinian rights and more.
Take Me To Church and Foreignerās God are scathing critiques of organized religion, specifically the Catholic Church and the colonization of Ireland.
Momentās Silence is about oral sex but itās ALSO about how that specific sexual act is often distorted to a show of power rather than that of love.
Nina Cried Power is an homage to various (mostly Black) civil rights activists from the US and Ireland and a call to follow their path.
Be criticizes anti-migrant policies and Trump and his ilk.
Jackboot Jump is about the global wave of fascism and about protest and resistance.
Swan Upon Leda is about reproductive rights and the violent colonial oppression of Ireland and Palestine.
Eat Your Young is about the ruinous way the 1%/capitalism and arms dealers prioritize short-term profit over everything else to the detriment of the youth/99%
Butchered Tongue is about Irish and other indigenous languages being suppressed and erased by imperial powers.
If any of the above surprised you, please, please delve deeper into Hozierās music, youāre missing such an important part of his work.

A few years ago while trying to find ways to commit suicide as painlessly as possible, I came across a PDF of Dr. Paul Quinnett's The Forever Decision. Thinking it might go into actual methods of suicide (I read an article once that actually did that and was trying to find it again) I started to read it, and I think I only got about two pages in before I was crying too much to actually see the words.
I downloaded the PDF to my hard drive and I open it again whenever I'm feeling too suicidal to do much else, but not enough to start booking a ride to the hospital. And every time without fail I only go up to a few pages before backing off and choosing to live another day just because suicide suddenly seems even more unbearable than whatever the hell upset me in the first place.
All the book really does is [I'm pulling a summary from GoodReads here as, again, I've read no more than 5 pages] "discusses the social aspects of suicide, the right to die, anger, loneliness, depression, stress, hopelessness, drug and alcohol abuse, the consequences of a suicide attempt, and how to get help."
But it also starts with the author kindly asking the reader to complete the book before going through with anything, and for some reason I'm compelled to really just try to read it all before finalizing everything. Despite not yet completing it (hopefully never will) I think I can safely say it's saved my life at least a few times now.
It's intentionally legal to copy and redistribute this book to keep it as accessible as possible, and it's very easy to find, but here's a link for it anyways.
Hey iām a fashion design student so i have tons and tons of pdfs and docs with basic sewing techniques, pattern how-tos, and resources for fabric and trims. Iāve compiled it all into a shareable folder for anyone who wants to look into sewing and making their own clothing. Iāll be adding to this folder whenever i come across new resources

Updated just now with new hand sewing resources (mainly buttonholes) and textbook pdfs on fashion history, fashion illustration, and thinking through designs!
OP I owe you my life
OP you are the greatest person currently in my life. You beautiful, thoughtful creature.
Thank you
Just a reminder that Frederick Banting, discoverer of the process to synthesise insulin, sold the patent for $1 because it was so important to him that it be widely available and easily mass produced. Yes, you should be angry.
This is the open Insulin project. An open source movement to develop a cheap and unrestricted recipe for producing rapid acting (lispro) and long acting (glargine) insulin.
These modern forms of insulin are still patented, and only the more dangerous less effective forms have had their parents expire.

This isn't dissonance by the way, it's perfectly logical to the fascist view. The state must always be ready to obliterate those it sees as enemies, but the people are responsible for their own well being. This is because the "State" is of course run by the ruling class, who in the heirarchical worldview are inherently superior and must be protected. The "people" are just the incidental by product of finding out who is (and by extension isn't) part of the in group. The logical conclusion of this is an industrial system where people, in order to save themselves, and facilitate their own well being, "join up." I'm going to say this out loud because it seems that not a lot of people have heard it, the armed forces of a society should not be a job. The defense of a people should only arise in the event that it is needed, and only by the people themselves. The very idea of a standing formal military is authoritarian.

Grok makes an accurate statement about some people who were killed by conservatives and Musk was like "oh no, I must fix this! My AI waifu can't be correct!"
starting a collection of my favourite AO3 authorās notes
honourable mentions
turning point usa is kinda performance art like lets consider that the other founder died from covid in 2020.
>two people start a conservative organization to push covid conspiracies and pro-gun ideals (among other things)
>one dies of covid
>the other dies of gun violence
itās so on the nose that itās actually clichĆ©
